Hello I'm currently waiting on my 8 week old to be seen by a paediatric gastroenterologist. Baby has awful trapped wind that no amount of winding will get rid of. I've tried Gripe water today. I don't want to try colief before knowing if it is a lactose allergy. Baby is pushing some farts out but still has so much in there. I've tried a warm bath, massage, bicycle movements, knees up to chest. I'm combi feeding and seeing my little one in so much pain is really distressing. Please let me know if there is anything you did that worked that I haven't thought of. Thank you!

Could it be Tongue Tie @Dewintergarden? Do any of these symptoms sound familiar?

Excited423 · 06/08/2023 14:49

Hi @Dewintergarden

Just checking if you found out what was causing your little ones gas?

My son is 5 weeks old and has really been battling with trapped gas for two weeks now. Like you I've tried all burping and bicycle kicks etc but they don't seem to help.

Hopefully your baby has turned the corner and is doing better now 😊

Does your LO have any of the symptoms in the link @Dewintergarden?

SiouxsieSiouxStiletto · 06/08/2023 14:54

Sorry meant @Excited423 Blush

Sorry meant @Excited423 Blush

He has a few of them, but it's such an extensive list on the link I think everyone could find some there that apply to their baby?

Did your baby have tongue tie?

SiouxsieSiouxStiletto · 07/08/2023 09:08

Yes they did and it wasn't picked up till much later. If they have done symptoms, I think it's definitely worth getting it assessed.

Hello it turned out to be CMPA in the end. A paediatrician said there wasn't an issue but I pressed for another opinion and now my baby is less windy now I've cut dairy, gluten and soya from my diet and switched formulas.

Hi,
I have a 9 week old suffering from lot of gas and wind. He becomes fussy and squirmy while feeding and seems to settle after a poop. I have tried to cut my dairy for a week now and haven't seen any difference.

@Dewintergarden How did you get it diagnosed with CMPA?

Infocol didn't make much difference but gripe water seems to help. So not sure if it's just colic or CMPA.

SiouxsieSiouxStiletto · 18/09/2023 08:17

@Mamalistens usually CMPA is diagnosed by elimination. If you e already cut it out and they are gassy, have you cut it out completely and have you cut out soya as well?

This article on dairy from Kellymomm* is quite useful.

Did you read the link on TT I posted upthread as well? Wink

Mamalistens · 18/09/2023 10:54

@SiouxsieSiouxStiletto will check out the other thread and the article you shared.

I have cut out dairy completely but soya is normally not part of my diet. I mostly eat home cooked vegetarian food and sometimes eat homemade chicken curry and mindful not make it spicy.

So far gripe water has been helpful. HV and GP says it could be normal colic and he might grow out of it in a few weeks which I m hoping too.

Thanks.

@Mamalistens I went to a paediatrician who due to dc's slow weight gain and symptoms recommended me stopping dairy, gluten and soy. It takes 2 weeks to see a difference due to eliminating it out of your body. I noticed dc had less wind, slept better and cried less after 3 weeks of the diet. I'm still avoiding all 3 and it really has worked.

Oh and to add to the above I noticed Gripe water did relieve some of the wind but it's got a lot of e numbers which made me feel uneasy and once I started the diet I never needed the Gripe water for dc. Cutting out gluten seems to be a trigger for my dc as I by accidentally ate gluten one day and baby had bad gas as a result for a couple of days. I think of the 3 dairy for me was the hardest as dairy is in everything and dairy free cheese is gross. Soya and gluten aren't too difficult and ive found spicy foods/onions etc. haven't made dc's stomach gassy either.

@Dewintergarden Weight gain is not a problem in our case and he is keeping up with the graph comfortably so far. GP says the symptoms I mention doesn't sound like a CPMA and would worry if there is a problem with the weight gain.
So if it's just colic it would go away between 12 and 16 weeks mark. We will wait for few more weeks and then decide whether to seek specialist appointment if the symptoms still exist.

I agree cutting dairy is so hard. Also I miss my tea and coffee badly as I m not comfortable with black tea/coffee. I hate the substitutes, so sticking to just water for now.
