What am I doing wrong with the nappy ?!

DS is 3.58kg ...been using pampers size 1 for 2-5kg babies and I'm constantly getting wee up his back and soaking through babygrow! Tried the size 0 just in case it was too big and same issue. Tried pulling frills out, tried tightening it, tried lifting the back up more...is the nappy too small ?! Can't be surely...

And how does it leak up his back! Very sleep deprived and tired as he is only 2 weeks old bless him Sad

Thank you in advance!

Make sure his willie is pointing down when you put his nappy on. You could also try a different brand. Some babies just suit slightly diferent shapes.

Thanks @PineappleWilson
He always wriggles so much I struggle to even keep his legs still but will try keep willy down!

Are his vests too tight perhaps? Sometimes you get a compression leak when there's nowhere for the nappy to expand!

MrsTwentyNine · 17/06/2022 10:42

@Anotherdayanotherdollar ooo I don't think so..they seem loose to me! But that's something I'll bear in mind!

We had to move up to the next size nappies before we got to the top weight. If you look at the packets there is a crossover in the different sizes so pampers size 2 is 4-8kg but size 3 is 6-10kg so 6-8kg could be covered by either size. DD is 6.4kg and I don't think it will be long before we are moving up

RinklyRomaine · 17/06/2022 10:50

Penis down and not to the side.

To be honest though I had this with both my boys depending on brand. Lidl work well for both of them, one always leaked in Aldi and Asda, the other leaked in Asda brand. Just slightly different shapes I think.

MrsTwentyNine · 17/06/2022 10:51

@Cuwins I think you're right, maybe I'll switch to size 2 because he is probably 3.8 ish kg now! I just thought it's because it's too big but now I'm wondering if it's too small! Thank you :)

@RinklyRomaine I'll try Lidl ones! Were the sizes ok for their weight or did you size up?

I think it's just the brand. We had this trouble with pampers, as did others I know. Any other brand was fine, although boots was my favourite because they were the quality you would expect from pampers, without the leaks. Aldi mamia were also good.

RinklyRomaine · 17/06/2022 11:29

Lidl are good size wise. DS2 is a chunky chops but I found usually in the expected size. Also try the + version - they are not bigger, they have greater capacity if you you have a prolific pee-er!

I don't think they do + in the small sizes do they? Looking forward to being able to use them for overnight but haven't seen them in size 2

MrsTwentyNine · 17/06/2022 11:52

@serafinarose thank you! I'll try Boots and Lidl and see if they help!

@RinklyRomaine ahh didn't even know there was a plus size

RinklyRomaine · 17/06/2022 12:15

Ah. My chunk is almost 2 so maybe I'm misremembering. I had 2 in nappies for so long! Both in the same size as older one is a beanpole so maybe younger got the benefit of the + quite early.

MrsTwentyNine · 17/06/2022 17:43

Update
Aldi size 1 leaked too :(
Going to try pampers size 2!!

Sizing up was the answer!

In case you want to try them, the onpy thing that I found completely stopped leaks and poonamis was switching to birth to potty reusable nappies

Ariela · 23/06/2022 09:00

I can recommend washable nappies - they have elastic round the waist at the back, and thus prevents leaks

Great. We have just had to do the same thing with night time ones as she was waking up wet through

HeyBearILoveYou · 23/06/2022 11:34

We have this with my girl. The Aldi Premium ones seem to be the best for us. She's in size two at the moment but teetering on the edge of size three I think. So tricky knowing when to change!

Sheyes180 · 07/10/2022 02:04

Hiya i had all this with my son now 7 weeks.i bought a few brands of nappies to try and found pampers and asda nappies awful he would always leak on 1 side, best nappies i use are aldi never leak give them a try x

flowergirl2020 · 26/10/2022 09:54

I've always found the larger of the overlapping sizes works for my little boy. A rummier fit just seems to stop the sides under the tables moving as much - he's also wiggly. We found aldi premium (not regular ones) great up to size 3 for an active wiggly boy. Unfortunately premium stops at size 3. We now use Sainsbury's own brand. They are amazing! Really thick elasticised bit at the small of his back. Haven't had one wee or poo leak in them. Xx

flowergirl2020 · 26/10/2022 09:56

Spell check!! That should have said 'roomier fit' and stops 'the sides underneath the fastening tabs from moving' as we found that's where the side leaks were happening

MrsTwentyNine · 29/11/2022 12:51

Just to update and thank those who suggested going UP a size ...that was the key! We kept going DOWN a size initially!
