Anyone with newborns want to move over here from the pregnancy threads and continue the journey/compare notes/ share tips/ support each other through sleepless nights etc?!

Me please!

Sparklestars86 · 02/01/2022 16:49

@RHODXB hi! How old is your little one? My little girl is 16 days old and doing really well so far. I had a bit of a complicated post delivery following forceps and so have taken a while to recover (this is my first and I had no idea about the recovery afterwards!!) but we are getting there- and thankfully she is, overall, an absolute dream and very content.
Is this your first too? Xx

Hi @Sparklestars86 I'll happily join the club. My little guy was born on the 27th so 10 days old now. It's my first baby too. I also had to stay in hospital for 5 days after the birth. The birth was fine, vaginal on gas and air but shortly after I had severe blood loss and a retained placenta so had to be taken to theatre for transfusions and surgery. My iron levels continued to drop in the following days so had to have 2 more transfusions 4 days later. It's delayed my milk production so I'm in a bit of a mess work breastfeeding and baby lost 11% of his weight in the first few days due to not getting much from the breast.

How are you doing with feeding? Glad to hear she's a dream... or at least was when you posted as I know they can change quickly 😅

Mummyfor10years · 08/01/2022 19:38

Hi ladies, I had my baby girl 2/12. I was induced and had a good delivery, baby doing well so far however I’m bracing myself for the 6 week growth spurt xx

Sparklestars86 · 08/01/2022 20:43

@2020mission still a dream so far! Crossing my fingers so as not to jinx it though as fully expect it won't last..!
@Mummyfor10years being a first timer I didn't even know they had a spurt at 6 weeks! I have bought a book that goes through their development week by week for first 6 months but haven't read ahead yet!
Been to MIL's today and looked at baby photos of my husband- it's scary how alike they are. And totally not fair that I don't seem to be getting a look in at all so far! Xx

@Sparklestars86 yes it’s around 6 weeks that feeding gets a bit intense. If you download The Wonder Weeks app it will show week by week all the expect Ed growth spurts and development leaps, take a look it’s quite interesting. My girl is like her dad however she reminds me of her sister as a baby and she’s now like me 😊 I’ve started on some sensory play bits as she seems to have woken up and is interacting more x

Violet1988 · 08/01/2022 21:06

I had my little boy on 2/12 as well @Mummyfor10years

I read somewhere that most babies resemble their dads when newborn as it's a survival thing so the dad is confident the child is his and doesn't do it any harm. Not sure if it's true or not?

Mummyfor10years · 08/01/2022 21:28

@Violet1988 great day to be born!! Yes I’ve heard that, natures DNA test lol

1forAll74 · 08/01/2022 21:33

No, no one needed all this chit chat and endless advice about all the modern do's and dont's, and dealing with babies, years ago.

Sparklestars86 · 08/01/2022 23:37

@violet1988 that's interesting! So there's hope that she will pick up a few of my features as she gets a bit older. Makes sense I guess- mother nature is quite clever!
@mummyfor10years I'm looking forward to the sensory play. I have some of those monochrome flashcards and also sing nursery rhymes (badly) but not really awake long enough for much yet. Will look into the app. Xx

Ooh would love to join! Had my boy on the 28th December. Had forceps but now have an infection where my stitches are so still I more pain than I thought I would be! He's a dream at the moment 🤞 but I didn't realise how much time goes by without getting anything done, by the time he's finished his bottle it's soon time for another one!

Sparklestars86 · 09/01/2022 00:14

@Arghlife welcome. I was forceps too and my stitches are much, much better than the start but I'm still not pain free- already been discharged by midwives when little one was 2 weeks so I'm just hoping it's going in the right direction and will mention to GP at the 6 week check (which will actually be 8 weeks) if it's still lingering.
No one warned me about the physical recovery after birth. I sobbed around day 10 because I couldn't see a time when it would all be healed despite people rationally telling me it was still early days. But things have got better since- even if not all the way yet.
How did you know it was infected if not TMI? The problem with no one warning you about these things is I have no idea what is normal and just part of the process or whether I should be seeking medical advice before the GP check at 8 weeks. Xx

Arghlife · 09/01/2022 08:54

I didn't realise it was actually infected but I felt that the stitches had pulled apart, there's was a gap Sad and I showed my midwife on day 10. It also felt more painful to sit down.

2020mission · 09/01/2022 11:55

@Violet1988 I've heard that too about babies looking like dad. My little guy definitely resembles is dad more than me right now! Seems to be true 😅

Sorry if TMI but has anyone found their stitch thread sitting in their knickers? Mines appeared last night when I was at the loo. Hopefully that's normal for it to just fall out 😬 it's been about 12 days since the cut was stitched in hospital. Mines still hurts occasionally but has been more itching yesterday. It was an episiotomy so don't think it's a big cut. I haven't been brave enough to look at it 😆 but the midwife has on the home visits.

My boy is as good as gold all day but just loves to cry and fuss during the night which is annoying. He will sleep eventually in his crib but only for shorter naps and it takes ages for him to go down compared to during the day.

Arghlife · 09/01/2022 14:12

@Violet1988 do you think it's because it's alot quieter during the night? Sometimes I think they get so used to the daytime noise that at night the quietness can be unsettling

Arghlife · 09/01/2022 15:42

Just realised I tagged the wrong person 🙃 that was meant for @2020mission

2020mission · 09/01/2022 15:46

@Arghlife I was thinking that... he sleeps through loads of daytime noise without any issues. We have Ewan the sheep we put on for white noise at night but it only runs for 20 mins and is still a lot quieter than the daytime noise. I can't think of anything else that's different at night that could be causing problems. Unless he's just slept too much during the day 😆

Sparklestars86 · 09/01/2022 15:47

@Arghlife how big a thread is it? I've read that you can find it there yes but I haven't spotted anything yet. Xx

We use a Spotify white noise play list and just play it through the echo dot. It lasts 10 hours. Xx
