When to start using running buggy?

We got a baby jogger summit for Christmas and the latest version says it can be used for walking from 6 months but not until 9 months for running. I see on average most of the rest of them say 6 months due to baby needing full head control. My baby is almost 5 months and I’m only planning to jog on flat areas for probably 5k, no steep hills, bumps etc and the baby jogger reclines to almost flat. I even considered putting the head support from my occaro pram in it.

If I’m not going running up mountains with it and taking it very easy, can I start before the 6/9 months do you think? Struggling for a babysitter at short notice and my life would be so much easier if I could just take him with me while starting my new training plan in the new year.

Thanks 😊

They say 6/9 months to cover themselves. If you're running on flat, got a proper running buggy with suspension, use a head hugger and baby has good head control you should be fine from 5 months. Can you attach car seat? That would make it even safer.

@TeddyTonksGirlfriend thanks, I don’t think my car seat would attach to this one but if I use the head support and maybe start a bit later in January when he’s almost 6 months with it reclined back I think I should be fine. Just wanted reassurance! He’s been hurled about in the pram with two dogs attached to me pulling us different directions every 2 minutes since he was born so I actually think this would be smoother 😂

Hi! Kind of off topic but I’m planning on buying the Summit X3 so I’d love to hear what you think of it! I’m hoping to use it as my everyday buggy/pram with the carrycot/car seat attachments as well as for running later down the line.

@PleaseSendNoodles will do! I picked it before he was born, knew that would be the one we’d go for. The wheels are so springy so I actually think they wouldn’t get bounced about at all, especially if you’re walking and going over bumps, on/off kerbs etc. Think I’m going to like it to run with 😊 just excited to be able to start!

We've got a mountain buggy terrain and I've been running with our baby in it since she was 3 months, on pavement/smooth surfaces only. She sleeps most of the time and is jiggled less than when I walk on more bumpy terrain so I can't really see an issue so long so long as you're careful and sensible. The manufacturers have to cover themselves so will always be on the cautious side I think. I am going to wait until post 6 months to go on any more uneven ground.

@PleaseSendNoodles we use our mountain buggy as our everyday buggy as well as for running and I really like it.

@PleaseSendNoodles I’m back and I love it! He’s nearly 8 months now and I’ve used it for the 2/3 months. It’s great, really rate it! The only problem with it is once you start using it alongside your normal pram you find yourself just grabbing it for a walk too because it’s so much lighter than a big heavy pram. It goes over everything and it’s so easy to lift the back two wheels off the ground if you’re walking and the ground is really uneven to get over. It’s great for running, I’ve done the parkrun with it and it barely even slows me down! I have found it’s best at a flat parkrun and best on a cycle path type route rather than round the streets, on and off kerbs etc. I find when I go round the town it just involves too much stopping and starting and he gets bounced around in it a lot more. When we’re on the cycle path we can go miles in one direction and he’ll just sleep and not get hurled about at all. I really rate it 😊

@PleaseSendNoodles and I got the headrest from the mamas and papas occaro off eBay and put that on it so his head got bounced about less when he was younger. I’ve just left it on as it’s a nice little pilllow for him 😊 it doesn’t recline all that flat but he does still sleep in it
