does anyone know how to get around this? i obviously need to have my blood pressure checked and weighed etc (nearly 6 weeks pp) but because of lack of appointments i can't get one till i'd be 11 weeks pp! i really don't want to wait that long and wanted to go on it around now? how necessary is a blood pressure check? i have some in my draw still? or is there somewhere else that can do that for me instead of my gp? Smile

Could the practice nurse do it? Some are trained and some not...BP is important as is a general chat about risks/benefits etc.

My surgery did appoints for bp and weight with a twined member of staff so neither a doctor or a nurse just someone who could record the results basically. They have an auto bp machine though.

Have you had your 6 week check yet? My GP offered to prescribe it during that appointment

My drs told me to go to pharmacy for this...went to pharmacy and they told me they didn't offer the service. Do you know anyone with a BP machine at home you could use?

Elzbells · 08/12/2021 15:49

Boots do it at their pharmacy.

I also got fed up of trying to get contraception doctor appointments so I order mine online from the Superdrug Pharmacy. My pill costs £20 for a 3 month supply.

Obviously you have to pay but if you can afford it it's worth doing if only temporarily until GP services settle back down.

Also if you have one, try Lloyds Pharmacy. I've had mine done with them as well.

In the end I just paid £30 for an at home one anyway - saves the faff

You can get them for free from SH:24 website, they post them to you

In my surgery the 6 week appointment was moved to week 8 and done by a GP just doing those type of appointments so it may be that you do get one even if you can't get general ones.

Have you tried the sexual health department at your hospital? My doctors are saying they no longer do this type of thing due to doing covid vaccines and I called there for an appointment, still having to wait 4 weeks!
