Baby biting when breastfeeding

My DC is 9 months. In the last few weeks he's got teeth. Last night he suddenly started biting when feeding. He's not had a proper feed since as he keeps trying to bite.

Any tips how to stop him? He was good at feeding and often feeds to sleep overnight.

He has a cold and is teething again I think so it might pass but my milk will have gone by then as well.

Take baby away from the boob, say no firmly but calmly, and give them a toy to chew on. If they still seem hungry after a few minutes, try again.

Don’t scream (as tempting as it is!) as you might frighten baby and cause a nursing strike. Or baby might find your reaction funny and want to see it again! So you need to be boring 😂

Is it still happening?? Mine is 5m old and has been doing this for a few weeks. It makes me so mad inside. He's also started arching his back and not really letting me feed him like normal. Please tell me it's a phase and that yours stopped after a few weeks !

It is a phase but it's one they tend to revisit every time they might be experiencing teething pain. I once offered a feed as a way to placate a stroppy toddler and he soon let me know he was still angry by deliberately biting down very hard. That was the start of weaning for us Grin

OP if you are keen to continue breast feeding, simply express your milk and give it in a bottle. Otherwise, just wean.

You'll be pleased to know it happens a lot less now. Hopefully it continues like that.
