Runny Poo after formula change-help

Elles87 · 30/06/2021 20:59

I was recently feeding my 6 week old aptimil but as she seemed uncomfortable and very windy we decided to try a different formula. We switched over to kendimil but I've noticed since yesterday that her Poo is very runny.

She doesn't seem to be in any discomfort, her temperature is fine and this seems to be the only change.

Has anyone else had experience of runny Poo after a formula switch?

@Elles87 omg! I was on aptamil chnaged to kendamil for the same reason! She is the same ! Has your baby sbeen any btter? My little girl is 6.5 weeks! Since using it her poo has been runny! Day 5! Xx

Elles87 · 19/07/2021 16:12

She settled down after about 7/8 days and all is well at the moment. No more runny Poo and a lot less wind so the change was definitely best for her!

The only problem I have now is that it's proving difficult to get hold of kendimil! (Apparently it's been taken off the shelves due to a branding change) she's on kendimil organic so may have to change to regular kendimil if I can't get hold of any soon!

Hey!
Just to add it will just be their tummy's getting used to the milk causing the runny poo!

Have you tried ordering off the website?

Starrr123 · 19/07/2021 18:12

Isn't baby poo supposed to be runny though?

cookiesandcreamm · 19/07/2021 22:11

Yeah but changing milk can make it even more loose

@Elles87 was your little farting alot before her body got used to it ? She hasnt pooed today. And does your little one go everyday? On the kendamil xx

Elles87 · 20/07/2021 20:42

She was farting quite a bit and she was going every day or every other day. It's only now that she's a few weeks older that she has started to become like clockwork; once or even twice a day. This started from around 7.5/8 weeks. I had the same worries as you but she wasn't in any pain or discomfort and when she did Poo there wasn't any straining like there was with aptamil so I persevered.

How is your little one in themselves? Are they in any discomfort?

@Elles87 well shes been on it now for 7 days and she is straining:/ so i dont know what to do :( i wanna cry because i dont know if i done the right thing swapping! I feel so rubbish for doing this to her! With aptamil she was pooing fine but was very wingy and fussy! But i should of tried the comfort one before swapping:( everyone said kendamil was cery good x but on kendamil she doesnt crying during the night xx

Starrr123 · 20/07/2021 21:07

@Elles87 do you think i should just try to carry on abit longer ? X

Elles87 · 20/07/2021 22:04

It's a hard one. I wouldn't be too worried as she's not in discomfort and it's only been a day. See how she is tomorrow and if she poos then and how it is. Remember they have delicate stomachs at this age and it will take some getting used to. Try not to feel bad, you are doing your best and it is all about learning!

If it were me I would give it another day and then go from there, to see if and how she poos. The good thing is she is not in discomfort which can only be a good sign that you did the right thing.

Every baby is different but with mine I also had the same worries as you, although she has become regular since being on kendamil, yesterday she pood in the morning and she's only just done her Poo now for today (sorry for all of the Poo references) so it's not an exact science.

Do you have a health visitor you can call or is your gp easily contactable should you feel you need professional advice? (I'm not saying you will need it) it just sometimes helps with your own peace of mind.

@Elles87 my gp said give it another week! And then he said about going on formula that has no cow milk due to her loose poo. But i read alot of babies on kendamil hve loose poo! So on my 8 week check up next Wednesday i will tell him .

Shes fast asleep! Not moving or moaning at all! Ill give it another week and hopefully shel become more regular! He said i need yo give the milk atleast 2-3 weeks for her belly to get used to it.
Having a baby is a constant worry literally! The gp and health visitor have never heard of kendamil! Xx

Elles87 · 20/07/2021 23:00

It is constant worry, constant guilt but we are all doing our best.

I went from aptimil to aptimil comfort (it got rid of her windiness but she was still straining) then onto kendamil. I was in constant worry and guilt that I wasn't doing the right thing but we are all learning; first time or not.

Im glad you've been given some advice from your gp, that should put your mind at rest.

Even now I have the odd loose Poo but she is fine in herself and the majority of the time it's regular.

The amount of different types of baby food there is out there...I don't think it would be possible to find the right one straight away. It seems to be trial and error.

I hope tomorrow it settles down a bit and you can stop worrying Smile

@Elles87 so my little went to the toilet:) wasnt no where as runny but then today its like she cant go. Which is weird! Did your little one experience that?
Im hoping it will pss :) HV and gp said to continue for atleast another week before even thinking of chnaging! ( which i really dont wanna do) xxx

Elles87 · 23/07/2021 21:23

I’ve certainly had days where she hasn’t gone, or when she went in the morning and then not until the evening the next day. But she’s not in any discomfort and the Poo is as it should be when it does eventually come so I’m not worried.

Is she in any discomfort? If so, I would think about speaking to your HV or GP again just for your own peace of mind. It’s a good sign that the Poo is not as runny…it could just be her stomach still settling. I read another post the other day which said it could take three weeks.

Well she has reflux so the slight discomfort the dr thinks its that . Ill see how see is! She is alot more settles at night and definitely sleeps alot longer the. The other milk! So lets see :)
Yeaah her poo looks like normal now :) shes on gaviscon which can constipate her slightly too! So ill see how she goes! I wanna stay on this milk as the ingredients are so much better then the other stuff xx
