Episiotomy pain

I hope I've post this in the right place 🤞🏼

7 days ago I have birth to the most wonderful little boy & have been on cloud 9 since with the whole experience

Everything but my episiotomy Sad
I had a tear , forceps & was also cut due to LO been distressed so have stitches
I'm finding it so uncomfortable to sit for longer than 10 mins , going to the loo is also incredibly difficult.

I was prescribed morphine to take ( 10ml at a time ) but it makes me drowsy & im so worried about been alone with my LO when taking the medication
Thankfully OH is currently furloughed but he's doing the brunt of it all & it's getting me down

Can anyone recommend anything to help with healing ?
I haven't had them checked out by a MW yet
I've noticed one stitch on my pad earlier today so I'm hoping there dissolving 🤞🏼

Thanks Smile

You could try the Multi-Gyn compress pads. And would have it checked by HV just to make sure it's healing well. Hope it gets better soon!

Sorry to hear you're struggling. Definitely ask the midwife/HV to check. I think it's normal for it to take a while to feel better but my episiotomy did get infected and I had to have antibiotics to start feeling better. I remember (DS is 2 now) not being able to sit or stand without pain. Lying in bed was the best place for me. You can get sprays but best to check the wound is all ok before using I think x

Has it got worse rather than better?
Does it feel hot/swollen?
Have you had a look at it in a mirror?
I’d be concerned about you needing morphine for it at 7 days postnatal

Diclofenac is also good for pain relief. Have a look and see if it looks concerning - I would definitely show a midwife to get a second opinion. I've had 2 and my first one was very infected after 5 days and the pain was unbearable and unfortunately led to sepsis. It will get better but takes time. Make sure to wash every day and keep the area clean and dry. Rest as much as possible.

I would ask the midwife to check it for inflammation or infection.

Thank you very much for the tips
I've ordered some of the sprays that you can get called "bottoms up"
It's taken the edge off massively - thank god !
I'm gonna ring MW tomorrow & ask if they can be checked
I'm getting them checked on Monday by HV but I don't think I could wait that long

Thank you Smile

Yes definitely get checked before Monday, and keep an eye out for any other concerning signs like fever etc. I also used some witch hazel which helped a bit but not much.
You'll still be under the care of midwives so please use them. Hope you start to feel better soon
