Worried about his development

My baby is over 6 months and not hitting any milestones. He babbles a bit sounds like dada and yeah but not sure.
However he's not really sitting up only for a few seconds at a time. He's not crawling or even rolling over. He can sort of shuffle round on his back. Do you think I need to be worried?
Know I shouldn't compare but I know my daughter's were both sitting up at this age and my middle daughter was crawling. My son was born 3 weeks early, dont know if that makes a difference.

Are you in he UK @Rosebel? If so, I'd ask your HV or GP to take a look at him, especially as you've noticed a difference with your previous babies Thanks

Rosebel · 18/01/2021 23:02

Thanks for replying. Are HV actually seeing babies now do you know? I know when he was first born they just used to phone me but I didn't know if that had changed.

@Rosebel HVs are definitely working, phone consultation in my area only though. If they are worried at all they would refer you to the GP (again, phone consultation) and if the GP deems it necessary, they'd arrange a F2F appointment for you and your LO so they can assess him. All children are different and develop at their own pace and we shouldn't compare them but if you are concerned about specific milestones or have a gut feeling / instinct, definitely mention it to someone sooner rather than later. Even if it's just to put your mind at ease.

Hi @Rosebel 👋 my son is 6 months old today and he was 8.5 weeks early. He hasn't laughed, rolled over, sat up or even got full head control yet literally was only able to start doing tummy time about 2 weeks ago! I was concerned too but had an appointment with the paediatrician who wasn't concerned at all and said he's doing all the things that he should be... such as smiling, following me with his eyes around the room, responding to noise, putting hands to his mouth, babbling etc. If babies are early this is taken into consideration too and in general I think boys at a bit slower than girls hitting their milestones. I can't even start weaning him yet until his head control is better but they said this is fine and just to follow his lead when he's ready 😊 I'm sure your LO is fine but obv any worries just ask your HV for a visit x

I think boys at a bit slower than girls hitting their milestones.

Please don't take this as a given though OP. My DS was much earlier than my DD in most things.

If you are concerned at all it won't hurt to speak to the GP or HV.

Glad you've spoken to a Paed Rainbow. That must be very reassuring Smile

RainbowL2020 · 20/01/2021 10:56

Yeah absolutely mention it if you're concerned OP .. I did and I feel much better for the reassurance. @JiltedJohnsJulie yeah I deffo feel better after the paediatrician had physically seen him, we're back in may for a follow up as standard with him being born so premature but they said really he doesn't need it as he's already had every test going when he was born... eye test, hearing test, 2 brain scans etc all ok 😊 so he's just taking his time x

Rosebel · 20/01/2021 11:36

Thanks. I have left a message asking the HV to give me a call so hopefully I'll hear from them today

@Rosebel that's good let us know how you get on x

Rosebel · 26/01/2021 07:57

Thanks for the replies. Spoke to HV yesterday and she didn't seem to concerned. She gave me a few tips and said to talk to nursery as obviously they see him every week.
She's going to give me a call next month to see how things are.
