5 month on Ready Brek

Hey everyone,

I just wanted some advice about my little girl. She’s 5 months old and on Ready Brek as well as her normal milk for her reflux. I originally had her on baby Cow & Gate porridge but my hv said to give her ready brek as it’s better for her.

A month in and she has a raging rash all over her body - she’s on creams and antibiotics but it’s doing nothing. Could there be an allergy to something in the ready brek?

Please help!

Did the flare up correspond with starting on porridge, or did you start the porridge after starting new meds or something for the reflux? It's not impossible that it's that, but seems unlikely. If there's a correlation time wise though ie the only thing that changed was the porridge and nothing else it probably needs investigating. My DB had terrible eczema when little and had to go dairy free for a few years; but as they have been having C&G which is the only dairy in the porridge seems unusual. I would give the HV a call OP :)

DS had a similar sounding rash but was still just on milk at the time. It seemed to just be something he went through. We only bathed him in water with some dove sensitive soap now and again as he seemed fine with that. We then moisturised him with some coconut oil before bed and it cleared right up. It might be something he's eating but I thought I'd just add this in case it isn't.

I know this is an Oldish post but it cropped up amongst a Google search I did about ready brek lol. There are alot of hypocritical people on here bashing the health visitors advice saying you need professional advice so go to a GP and then going on to give their own (non professional) advice... back when I had my first, weaning was OK from 4m I know its different now, but people really are acting like she's fed the baby a curry lol. Actually reflux medical advice if it's bad can be to wean earlier than 6m as the stomach can keep solid food down better than milk(fluid), especially if reflux is causing weight loss in the infant. Weaning is also AROUND 6m NOT at 6m. As soon as an infant reaches 6m they no longer get the required amount of nutrition from milk alone. Although I'd be inclined to say op baby possibly has cmpa. My son had it and it was misdiagnosed for about 6weeks as reflux. Rash, reflux, diarrhoea, constipation, colic like stomach pains are all the hallmarks of it. Did you ever get an answer OP?

I think everyone is abit caught up on the weaning and not the actual issue the OP is asking about.
My LO was weaned at 5 months, I had to return to work at 6 months and my LO didn’t take a bottle , so I went to the HV and said I would have to stop breastfeeding and go onto formula, as I couldn’t express. At that point she said that weaning was better and my LO would catch up on feeds on an evening.
However in reply to OP my LO had a rash everywhere and we were at a loss, the doctor in the end said we were bathing him too much (every night as part of his night time routine) and to move to once a week (and just wash his bits as needed with a damp cloth) it worked wonders …
Maybe that would help?

When I had my first 25 years ago she was on mashed up stew at 5 months ( maybe even earlier) It was completely the norm. She was totally fine.

Fast forward to now and the advice for my last child was to baby led weaning at six months. She is the only fussy eater in out family. I am not a big fan of baby led weening at six months.

OP, it might be the oats or the milk. Can you go on to cows milk? My friend was advised to start baby rice at 4 months because her child had really bad GERD
