Folding inserts for reusable nappies to make them fit?

I have a reusable nappy starter kit for when bubs is 10lb+.

My Scots gov baby box gave me a free totsbots reusable peenut wrap for birth - 12lb.

The little lamb inserts are the same width but much longer than the peenut inserts. Could I fold them to fit the new baby wrap? This would mean I have 30 inserts so could get an extra wrap layer and really not need any newborn disposables for next to no extra cost?

Or is this a leak waiting to happen?

I don’t see why not, you can layer as many inserts as needed so one folded shouldn’t be an issue.

You may find that an unshaped insert in a wrap may not be great at catching breastfed poo as it's runny and explosive Grin

Reusables on newborn nappies are a bit hit and miss mainly because they are so skinny and take a couple of weeks to have a bit of chub on.

I successfully used eco bumble nappies by easy peasy from birth. Didn't boost them, folded down the front and then with the nappy nippa it gave a snug fit. When they got a big bigger I put the booster on the outside so I still had the snug fit.

Perhaps get just 10 eco bumbles and a couple more wraps? I also recommend using disposables for the first few days until the meconium passes as it's yucky stuff.

Bumbles dry really quick and truly are a birth to potty fit so will compliment your stash.

My other thought is check out newborn nappies 2nd hand - often very cheap and in great condition.

Folding the inserts shouldn't be a problem, but I agree with RandomMess that you may find poo gets on the wrap a lot --- that was certainly our problem with the baby box kit, we'd need to change the wrap almost every time. We used the baby box wrap over folded muslins (held with a nappy nippa), and that worked much better for us.

Two wraps still wouldn't have been enough, though. Four or five is probably more realistic, and with four, you still might have to handwash the occasional wrap so you don't run out. Definitely have a look secondhand, though --- we got ours very cheaply that way.
