Newborn support group anyone?

Anyone else want to join me for a bit of moral support?

DC3 was born on the 28th February (so pleased he wasn't born on the leap year day!)

He doesn't like being put down so I'm pretty exhausted. DH and I are taking turns to sit up with him at night but as I'm breastfeeding, I'm having to do more. I know it's not forever though.

Milk has just come in so I'm feeling pretty emotional at the moment. Again, I know it will pass!

I'm just about to attempt to put him down in the crib, wish me luck!

Is anyone else still suffering from SPD?

My coccyx is still sore and painful to sit on. I was hoping this would have gone by now! Weirdly it felt better the couple of days after birth but as soon as my milk came in it started hurting again. Or maybe everything else was hurting more in the 2 days after labour and I didn't notice it as much!

Hope it goes away soon Angry

@LolaLollypop I didn't have spd but my coccyx is so sore! I have to sit on a cushion. Plus putting trousers on is so difficult because I can't lift my legs properly. I've never had this with my other births. My midwife was supposed to come today but had to cancel but I'm going to mention it tomorrow.

@hiimmumma glad it's slightly less painful today. Hopefully it will get a bit easier every day. Such a shame you've got to wait weeks for an NHS appointment!

@anotherexhaustedpidgeon sorry I got your dd and ds mixed up! How is your dd doing? Must be hard trying to keep them apart.

Anyone else fed up of leaky boobs already? 😩 it's constant! I'm really grateful that I'm able to breastfeed and milk supply hasn't been a problem but my goodness I feel like the leaky boobs situation has got worse not better .. today i sprayed myself in the face and baby on her head because she came off for a second and I've soaked through breast pads and multiple tops and bras .. when will it settle down?! With her being sick all over me too I may as well not wear clothes ever again 😅

Relieved it's not just me still suffering with coccyx pain @CupCupGoose. Well not relieved you've got it, but you know what I mean! Google tells me it should settle down by 6 weeks... let's see.

I'm with you @lovesT. A mere brush of my nipple from anything and they leak - the shower, clothing, person etc. Earlier on I leant on a counter when ordering something and I felt the familiar rush of milk! I wasn't wearing breast pads either as I've got washable ones and they were being washed.

My nipples are still sore too. I need to get my LO latch looked at. He's feeding fine but I don't think he's opening his mouth wide enough and is chewing on the nipple a bit.

I still feel a bit unusual around my tummy too. Kind of like period pains. I did have a UTI just after i gave birth and I wonder if that's fully gone. I really don't want to go back to the docs, I'm sure they are a hotbed of germs atm!!

@LolaLollypop I know what you mean, I was slightly relieved that I'm not the only one as I've never heard of anyone having this before. Mine also started a few days after birth weirdly!

@lovesT same here. As if I haven't got enough washing already without all the extra tops, bras and washable pads. I'm on my last maternity bra and I've just soaked through it. Luckily it does settle down eventually.

@CupCupGoose yes definitely! I have washable ones too but they just end up soaked and I hand wash them because otherwise I'd run out waiting for the next wash (even though we do a wash every other day with cloth nappies!) anyone know when it's likely to settle down? I honestly feel like it's got worse for me the last couple of days as she's been cluster feeding and think she's having a growth spurt .. sometimes my milk flow is so strong she chokes on it a little bit 🙁

CupCupGoose · 09/03/2020 21:07

@lovesT I never thought to hand wash them! I've ran out so currently got two muslin cloths down my bra. Sexy! I use cloth nappies too. Well kind of half cloth half disposables. I'm not quite used to it yet but I'm using cloth wipes full time as they are so much better at cleaning up than normal wipes. DH thinks I'm crazy. How do you store your dirty nappies before you wash them? I've read conflicting things. Some say a lidded bucket but others say you need to have airflow. I can't remember when the leaky boobs stopped with my last two. I think it was a few weeks.

I've got cloth nappies too but haven't actually used them yet. I'm going to once his cord is off I think.
What wipes are you using? And do you wish them the same time as the nappies?

Report
CupCupGoose · 09/03/2020 21:42

@hiimmumma I didn't start until the cord fell off either. Yes I wash the wipes with the nappies. I put them through a short wash first (just nappies and wipes) then a long hot wash after (with other washing that can be washed on a high temperature) I'd recommend clean cloth nappies on Facebook. It's an Australian group but really helpful and knowledgeable. Cloth nappies UK is another good group.

Oh and I use cheeky wipes but I bought them ages ago before doing any research and wish I'd just bought cheap face cloths instead!

@CupCupGoose @hiimmumma

we've used from birth and have been really pleased with them. We just have a bin with a flip lid from ikea with a mesh laundry bag which we put the dirty nappies in and wash every other day. We use the baby setting on our washing machine and wash them at 60 which does the job 😊 we also use the cheeky wipes which are great and wash them with the nappies too. I think some things with cloth nappies can sound very over complicated but I don't think they have to be! I agree that the cheeky wipes are great at cleaning up 😊

We used thenappylady.co.uk for advice and buying all of our nappies, a really great website.

My LO is so unsettled. He's 2 weeks old but is spending all day trying to pass wind and poo. He cries in pain and I never know if he's hungry or comfort sucking. He wont be put down and even held he is squirming mostly. Still haven't had contact with health visitor as there is a shortage so feel a bit abandoned...

Going to call the doctor for advice but I went last week and they said its colic and not much I can do but he's just got worse. My older son has cows milk allergy so wondering if it's this....

Really frustrated

My milk came in yesterday and I was expecting a mammoth cluster feed session last night but it never happened.
He's seems to drain the breast really quickly then just sleep for long stretches.
Not that I'm complaining but is this normal?
Just worried about my supply if he's not cluster feeding!

DS1 fed for 1-2 hours every 30 mins so this is a radical difference for me!

LolaLollypop · 10/03/2020 08:52

@Lcw29 do you have an inclining crib? I told mine so that LO head is always slightly raised. I think this helps with reflux/wind. You could try making sure your LO is positioned like this too.

Try cycling his legs after every feed to encourage digestion. Also I find my son burps much better when he's on my shoulder. I walk around patting him for a good 5-10min after feeding to ensure as much gas is out as possible.

Have you tried Infacol yet? Perhaps pop to the chemist and see if they can recommend anything different.

Hope it gets easier for you! It's horrible to see them in pain.

So glad I found this thread. I genuinely thought there was something wrong with my dd. She’s 4 weeks tomorrow. Everything was working out so well up to two weeks, baba was very content and we appeared to be starting to get into some sort of routine. She would feed for between 20 to 40 mins and sleep for two hours. Sleeps were gradually getting longer and we had no problems with feeding. Then I can only assume she hit a growth spurt. We had round the clock cluster feeding. She can now cluster feed at any point of the day. If she’s awake she wants to be fed and only held by me. I feel bad for my partner because he has to hand her over to me anytime she wakes. She’s too tired at night to stay awake for feeds so she’ll usually feed for between 5 and 10 mins and then sleep for an hour. It’s impossible to wake her!

Thankfully she’s good to take the bottle but it doesn’t satisfy her. She wants the comfort of the boob after it so it’s no benefit to me to get a break. I’m on the the verge of switching to formula but I don’t even think that would improve things now as I’d imagine she’d get very distressed if she didn’t have the comfort of the breast. I’m just hoping this all settles a bit by week 6. I’m exhausted and sick of crying!

@Salire86 I think my little girl is going through a very similar thing at the moment! Cluster feeding like crazy after having a good few nights of some kind of routine waking up every couple of hours for a feed and then going to sleep again but last night she woke up a lot more and today I can't put her down for more than 5 minutes with her waking up again and wanting more boob! Husband got pretty frustrated last night as he tried to give me some time to go and shower so I did but came out and she was screaming and he couldn't settle her because she just wanted feeding ☹️ I'm sure she's going through a growth spurt! She'll be 4 weeks on Saturday so similar to yours. "It's just temporary" 😅...

@lovesT from what I understand they’ll be going through a “leap” in a few days and then another growth spurt at 6 weeks so I think I’ll just stay in bed with dd until then and order just eat 😂 they are lucky they are so cute or we’d never put up with this!

Report
lovesT · 10/03/2020 16:05

@Salire86 that sounds like a great idea! 😄 my quick food is chocolate digestives and I'm running dangerously low 😅 so what does a leap mean? They calm down for a bit and then start again at 6 weeks?

I've thought that so many times, it's exhausting but then I look at her little face and just do whatever she needs me to do. I feel a bit like a robot at the moment just functioning as necessary for her!

Thanks @LolaLollypop on the heads up about this thread.

I had DC no.3 on 5 Feb, she's putting on weight well and has hopped up a centile line since birth which makes the near constant feeding seem worth it!

Just wondering if anyone else's LO has nappy rash? It's just confined to the centre but is several small red bits, not raised. One big area started getting better after the GP gave me thrush cream to use (I was on antibiotics for a week a couple of weeks ago). But we've been using the cream for over a week now, so if was just thrush I think it should have gone by now. Because it's right near where the poo comes out (😐) even with nappy off time it doesn't air unless I hold her cheeks open (poor mite!) but I just can't feasibly do that for more than a minute or two... and understandably she gets fed up after a while... We've tried all the usual creams alongside the clotrimazole... any advice? I've just started taking probiotics but have read mixed things about whether or not they'd get into breast milk anyway... Can't wait for summer - fed up with this rain and feel like a good dose of sunshine would clear the rash up!

@CupCupGoose

@sulkysukey we used lanolin cream as it was all that was in the house and it actually cleared things up within the day. Using that as a barrier now and bepantham when it looks sore. All you can really do is try to make sure their nappy is changed soon after they poo and dry off their bum after you’ve cleaned it. I just wipe it with cotton wool as whenever her nappy is off I either get pooed or wee’d on do can’t let it air dry

Thanks @Salire86 - now my nipples are doing ok I'll try out my leftover Lansinoh - have started drying her out with my hairdryer (on cold setting!) and don't want to get my hopes up but feel like it looked slightly better after I did that...

With sleep deprivation everything just seems so much harder to cope with!

Anyone with the colicky type squirming crying windy babies - mine got like this a few days ago since when I'm making sure to feed her as vertically as possible - seems obvious but she was often closer to horizontal - this and obsessive winding for 15 mins after a feed (even if she burps straight away) have made a difference - who knows if it'll last but fingers crossed!

@sulkysukey - how funny, my health visitor had said to try this after id been complaining of my DD having windy/colic symptoms. Since trying it today, it does seem to have made a difference so fingers crossed.
She also suggested it may be silent reflux as we're having a bit of fussing with feeding/arching back - anyone with any experience on silent reflux?

Report
sulkysukey · 10/03/2020 20:00

@MamatobeFeb20 glad the vertical position is helping your LO too. Deffo not finding it comes as naturally as cradling her more horizontally, but hopefully we'll get used to it soon!

I'm due my 6 week check next week but just read something about only essential GP visits due to COVID - is everyone thinking of booking their checks as usual or delaying?
