Hi everyone. Soon to become a first time mum so starting to shop around and get prepared for baby. Wanted to learn from experience on here and ask what were the top things you couldn't live without as a first time mum? I'm planning to breast feed if possible also.

Thanks Smile

A baby gym, which is essentially a mat, mine had things hanging from it to keep the children safe and entertained whilst laying on the mat so I could do a few things whilst they remained entertained on a clean area of the floor

Congratulations! And enjoy your new baby

Congratulations! Nasal aspirator with saline spray - quick squirt and suck out bogeys.

Sat here nursing my 7 week old.

Mine are:
Grosnugs for when they're too small for Grobags so you don't have to take them out of their covers at night to feed. Then Grobags.

I have a snuzpod this time (bed side crib) which is making night feeds much easier. Got it second hand on eBay. All the fabric comes off and goes in the machine and bought a new mattress.

Baby has one bottle a day so I can get a bit of sleep and in readiness for if I ever need to be out without her- use medela calma which are active suck rather than free flow so reduce chance of bottle preference developing. They've worked really well.

Stretchy wrap sling. Baby doesn't like to be put down so this is a life saver to still be able to do things.

Nose sucker and saline spray. She had a cold at 4 weeks and these are the only things you can use before 3 months. Good to have in ready.

Sock ons or tie on socks - baby socks fall off all the time.

Zip up body suits/sleep suits are handy, but not essential.

Thin fleece snow suit that can be worn in a car seat. The puffy quilted kinds or thick lined fleece ones can't be worn in the car, so you have to take them on and off which is annoying if baby is sleeping.

They're def my most useful so far.

Snuzpod
Sleeping bags
Ergobaby carrier

A downstairs basket for him to sleep in, I use the cot attachment for the pram.

Scrach mits.

A wrap around carrier, takes up so much less space than others so easier to wear when cooking or cleaning.

A good sized water bottle for the days you're sat on the sofa snuggling baby, because there will be days you don't want to do anything but snuggle.

I think pretty much every thing else is already listed.

Lansinoh nipple cream!

forevercurious · 07/01/2020 20:26

Muslin cloths, we are using so many a day!

NeurotrashWarrior · 07/01/2020 20:34

Netflix

Amazon prime

Bodum tea flask

Chocolate

Slings

Good buggy with a bit for purse and coffee (bought of eBay)

Those skip hop change mat bag things; just like a big purse for nappies and a fold away mat. Change bags are huge and bulky and a good rucksack or just cloth bags do as well.

Very comfy shoes/trainers

NeurotrashWarrior · 07/01/2020 20:38

Oh yes muslins and lansinoh but tbh if you're using that a lot there's a latching positioning issue.

To aid that; laid back breastfeeding / nurturing breastfeeding videos on YouTube

My local breastfeeding fb group, LLL

The wonder weeks app is great. Both mine were really spot on.

Knowledge that there's a 4 month sleep issue, it's brutal and it does pass.

Oh lounge wear for the days you aren't going out, but want to feel like you've gotten dressed, if you need to run to the sjop, it's passable as an outfit.

Feetupteashot · 21/02/2020 21:47

Frozen cookie dough in the freezer so you can bung one in the oven for a lift if having a tough day :)
