Mine was and it turned out he had allergies, any history in the family of allergies? There seems to be a strong link between reflux/regurgitation and certain allergies (milk and egg for us)

For reflux (before I found out about the allergies) I used to hold him upright for 30min post feed before I put him down, I eventually bought a wedgehog reflux wedge pillow for his cot though we ended up co sleeping (he's next to me now and nearly 14 mo 😅) and we tried gaviscon but it was a faff. Any other symptoms?

Has your milk just come in? Sometimes they take in too much too quickly and spit up the little extra mouthfuls.
Hopefully you have a nurse or experienced bf friend that can help you.
Make sure the little one has lots of wet diapers.

no no history of allergies and i've had a good supply of milk now for 3-4 days, no other symptoms other than spitting up

I was a at breastfeeding cafe today and asked about spit up. The peer support worker assured me it's totally normal and nothing to worry about... though I do mean just the amounts that come up after a feed that can be dealt with by a muslin cloth.
If it's proper sick and quite a lot she said it may warrant a doctors appointment to check for issues. But spit up is normal.
Sorry if this is a bit rambly (2am and all that haha)

My boy had colic and would posset after every feed and sometimes cry inconsolably. I had to use ‘the bounce’ to get him to sleep. It all resolved when he started solids at 6 months. It also only happened early evening. The flip side was he slept so well! 4-6 hours then another 4 overnight so I was well rested 😊

My breastfed babies did this a lot. My rule of thumb was, if they gag noisily and retch, it was usually actual vomit. If they just opened their mouths and milk poured out (occasionally like a fountain) it was just because they'd overfed.

@SayNoToCarrots Absolutely, my rule of thumb too

Ditto. My LO sometimes takes too much when comfort suckling. So you get undigested milk back.

My second was/is a piggy. After every feed he chucked a little (sometimes it looks like a lot though). My first never chucked up.

Some babies are definitely more chucky than others.

If bubs is generally happy and well then I would keep an eye on it and mention it to your HV but they usually grow out of it as they get bigger if it's just over feeding.

Mine was like this for at least 3 months but he gained weight and had wet nappies so was fine. He doesn't do it anymore (he's 10m).
