Baby has high temp

Hey ladies!! Wow I haven’t posted on here since I was pregnant!! Anyway, my daughter is 9 months old and woke up yesterday with a temperature of 39.3, I gave her ibuprofen and it went down, within an hour or two it went back up, then about an hour later it was at 39.6, I took her to the doctors and he said she has an ear infection and possible chest infection so he gave her antibiotics. (Her dad has had the winter flu really badly for well over a week, haven’t seen him out of bed in days and he’s not normally a wimp so it must be bad lol) but I started her on the antibiotics yesterday and she’s just woken up now diarrhoea every where and a temperature of 39.8. I know I need to wait for the antibiotics to start working but I’m so worried about her, she hasn’t eaten solids properly in two days (no more than a nibble of toast) and has only breastfed from me three times today, I’m really worried that she might be getting dehydrated and I just don’t know how to get her to stop burning up😭 sorry for the long post but should I just wait it out or take her back to the doctors?? Xxxxx

You need to keep her temperature down as much as possible and alternate ibuprofen and paracetamol. When the temp is lower, in my experience, she then might eat a bit more. Keep her hydrated as much as possible. Make sure she is in a cool room and not too covered (although not totally uncovered either).
AB generally take 2 days before the LG take effect.
And ring 111 anyway.

Before they take effect.

Did your doctor say to expect continued high temperatures and the other symptoms today? If not, with a child that young, I would definitely ring the medical advice line and do whatever they told me. Yes to paracetamol straightaway - even if you need to see the doctor right now, the doctor won't need to see the fever so get it under control as best you can. A GP friend of mine is always stressing this - parents bring the child without having given Caplol "because I wanted you to see how bad the temperature was".

Possible dehydration, diarohea, not eating, drinking little, soaring temperature - it could be just the ear infection and the antibiotics will clear it in time - but a child so young won't have a lot of resilience and I would strongly urge you seek medical attention.

Best wishes.

She needs to be seen again just in case of dehydration. Phone 111 and they can best advise you where to seek help at this time of night.

Thank you for your replies! I alternated the Calpol and ibuprofen and kept up with the antibiotics and today she seems to have perked up! She’s feeding normally and managed to eat little bits at a time. Her temperature is back down to normal as well. I told the doctor when we went that I was concerned about dehydration because she was so hot and wasn’t eating or drinking but he didn’t seem concerned 🤔 I’ll definitely be keeping a close eye on her!! But thank you everyone xxxx

Good to hear. It always amazes me how quickly kids go from ill to healthy.
