Coconut oil as nipple cream?

I'm a great fan of coconut oil anyway, but I've just read an article that mentioned benefits (anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, anti-viral, aids healing and unlikely to cause intolerance) of using coconut oil as a nipple cream.
I used 'generic' nipple creams with DS when he was a baby, but looking back I think it may have contributed to the problems we had breastfeeding (I think he was sensitive to the lanolin) so I'm completely avoiding lanolin this time round.
Has anyone been using/used coconut oil as nipple cream? If so how good was it?

My first baby is 16 days old, and I’m using organic coconut oil for lots of different things (mainly on him, for nappy rash and the occasional patch of dry skin etc). It’s worked wonders.

A few days into bf I had awfully cracked and sore nipples so I tried it on them too. It was a miracle! Seemed to repair the damage literally overnight. I also used it to massage by boobs when my milk first came in and they were hard and weird.

I prefer it to Lansinoh, as I find Lansinoh quite thick and therefore quite painful to apply. The coconut oil, softened in the microwave for 10 secs if necessary, is great.

100% recommended! Good luck.

Oh and the baby doesn’t seem to mind the taste at all (he doesn’t seem that keen on the Lansinoh)
