Hi Marmite

Yes, I'm afraid I haven't found much time for mumsnetting either.

Our little one suffers with wind too. I've no advice I'm afraid as we still haven't cracked it. We've been using infacol too (which she hates). We tried gripe water on advice of one of my friends who had success with it but it didn't work for us.

It's mainly in the evening when DH gets home which is sad as he doesn't get to see the happy smiley baby. She is also starting to be sick more, particularly when we burp her (which she hates) so we may have to make sure she's upright for a while after feeds too.

We've recently tried introducing a bottle of expressed breast milk but she isn't taking it at the moment. Has anyone else successfully introduced a bottle at 4/5 weeks?

We've also tried using a bjorn baby carrier but she also doesn't like that.

We've got our six week check next week. She hasn't been weighed since week two so I hope everything is ok? 😳

I hope everyone else is getting on ok

peanutbutter310 · 03/06/2017 10:35

This baby thing is pretty all consuming, right?!

Things are starting to settle down a bit now, first her feeds started to stretch out to 2.5-3hours and the past few nights she's started to settle into a bit of a routine with just 3 wake ups (as opposed to the hourly feeds we had been doing!).

Wind is also an issue here. Some feeds go down fine and others cause her such distress, it's heartbreaking! I'm not convinced the infacol is helping much either, but don't want to stop giving it just in case it is giving her some relief!

She loves the baby bjorn, much more than her pram, but has been getting far too hot in it with the current weather. Has anybody else had this problem?

marmitecheesetoast · 05/06/2017 07:39

All these poor windy babies! It is heartbreaking isn't it Sad Hers seems to get worse as the day wears on too. We have been getting through so much infacol!! If anyone happens across some miracle cure I'd love to know!! Or even just helps a bit!! Are you guys babies really possety too kitty and peanut or just the wind?

Haven't done any expressing yet kitty. I do want to but seems like one too many things to think about right now!! Have you tried different bottles?

peanut when it was really really hot I was wearing my stretchy wrap as a 'top' in itself over just my bra so she was in it skin to skin (just in the house obvs!!!) I guess that wouldn't work so well with a more structured carrier like I think the baby Bjorn is? It's cooled down a bit again here, and torrential rain today!!

Got my 6 week check with GP later this week, have been telling myself I'll not worry about what I'm eating til that point then I'll start trying to be a bit good... so not long left to eat biscuits without guilt!!! Confused Anyone been to any postnatal exercise classes yet? There's a couple of classes near me that you can take your baby to but I just can't imagine baby marmite letting me away with that... especially as she hates lying in her pram... I don't think I could do pilates with her in the stretchy wrap!!??Hmm

peanut2017 · 05/06/2017 08:30

Hi there- sorry for not replying sooner. This new baby thing is a full time thing isn't it?

Conor is also what I think is colicky - some days see ok and others aren't. I find the infacol gives him some relief. It's heartbreaking and takes it out of you when its constant crying. No magic trick just try anything like walking him around, singing, bicycling his legs, then pushing them up to his chest can help him pop off. Putting him in the tiger hold, sometimes massaging his tummy but sometimes it's tender so I can't.

Had my 6 week check up and Conor's- all fine. He's 12 pounds. Told me I need to work on my pelvic floor. What pelvic floor? Ha ha can't feel it anymore.

Went to baby massage on Friday and conor decided right before we were leaving and I was putting him in his car seat to go ape shit! I just wanted to cry and stay at home. I persevered and he settled. Felt like a new girl starting school. 7 of us in total but at the beginning they were talking in groups of 2 and I was on my own! Again just wanted to go home. Conor started screaming when the instructor started talking. Then decided to fall asleep in my arms for and hour and a half so could do no masssge on him Smile laughed about it all later but am finding it hard to try and make new mammy friends. Anyone else like this?

Was thinking the same that I want to get back into doing some fitness - there is baby yoga so I might try that.

Hope you are all doing well with your lovelies!

marmitecheesetoast · 05/06/2017 09:46

All the same things i'm trying for the wind then Peanut, fingers crossed all the babies grow out of it soon!
Ah that sounds tough, that's what I'm worried about with going to these things, haven't been to anything yet. Well done for persevering though and sticking it out! Hopefully maybe if you go back next week people might be a bit chattier? Shouldn't be like that though. I'm so glad I've got the NCT girls at least, did you do any antenatal classes?

Glad the 6 week check was ok, did they just ask you some questions or do they actually give you any sort of once over? Wondering if anyone will check my episiotomy again, although think it's healing fine. Keep trying to remember to do my pelvic floor exercises but keep forgetting! Good news on Connor's weight gain too! E doesn't have her check up til 8 weeks here for some reason - would be easier to do it all at once!

Been up since 4.30am and baby marmite not showing any signs of dropping back off to sleep Hmm

Got a family wedding in a couple of months, think I may need to invest in some Bridget Jones type pants for my new 'mum tum' have never bought anything like this, any recommendations!?!

peanutbutter310 · 05/06/2017 11:15

Hope she is back asleep by now marmite and you're managing some rest!

Mine is also very possety. I have a fairly limited selection of tops that work well for breastfeeding so the washing machine is constantly on the go to keep up with all the times she inevitably misses the muslin Hmm

That's also a good idea about just going topless (and hope nobody comes to the door Wink!). Although the weather here has also shifted, so less of a worry now. I was given a fabric wrap but haven't taken the time yet to work out how to use it - she's usually starting to get upset when the sling comes out and it's not the time to be trying new things!

Peanut, sorry to hear that the baby massage didn't go as well as you'd hoped. But I'm sure it will get easier as our babies start to be more settled and you get out of the colicky weeks. Hopefully you at least picked up some massage tips that you can apply at home when he's more settled.

I haven't made it to any groups yet, waiting until we reach the six week mark next week. Think I'll try baby yoga to start, as well as some of the local coffee meet-ups. Our antenatal group are quite friendly but there are only four of us and would be great to start making some more mum friends to spend time with on maternity leave.

We've been giving DD the odd expressed bottle since week 2, so perhaps easier than introducing them a few weeks later Kitty. But one thing to note is that she is much happier to take it when I'm not in the room teasing her with the smell of fresh milk so I tend to hand her off to DH and grab and extended nap.

At what weight did everybody move to the next size of nappy? I'm pretty sure that the size 1s are too small as we're having to change much more frequently and have had a few explosions. But when we tried the size 2s they leak a bit around the legs instead. Not sure which is the lesser of two evils!!

TopKittyKat · 05/06/2017 20:17

Hi ladies,

Baby kitty has also possety the past week. Previously it was just the wind.

Normally she would be awake and fussing/crying now but we've had a busy day today and she's worn out and is sleeping. I would go to bed early but I've got to wait up for a Tesco delivery. Hopefully she sleeps well later too. We went to a baby swimming class earlier which tired her out. We're starting lessons. It's the only class we've been to so far.

Peanut - I haven't done NCT and haven't been to any groups yet so have only met the ladies in the swim class today. There were only four of us and we chatted a bit but there's not much scope for chatting in the lesson. Hopefully I'll get to know them a bit more as huge weeks go on. I'm a bit daunted at the thought of going to some of the other local classes but I will brave it soon.

Peanutbutter - I was too afraid of upsetting breastfeeding to start before four weeks as we struggled a bit to start with to get feeding established. Part of me wishes we had risked it and started with a bottle earlier. I've got some different bottles to try. I've tried my DH feeding while I've been out of the house but she still wasn't having any of it!

I haven't had my LO weighed since her two week check, so I don't know what weight she was when we went up a nappy size but we're using size 2s now and have been for a fair few weeks. She was 9lb 6oz at her 2 week check though. Well, we're actually using reusable nappies but I use disposables when we go out. I found one of the brands of disposables was too big on the leg (can't remember which brand it was) but the Tesco nappies fit fine on the legs. If you're having poo explosions then I'd definitely try the next size but maybe try a couple of different brands. If you go on some of the brand websites they offer free samples to test.

We've got our six week check tomorrow.

Marmite - I keep forgetting my pelvic floor as well and I really can't afford to! I need to set a regular alarm on my phone to remind myself to do them.

marmitecheesetoast · 06/06/2017 06:53

Haha yes had to make sure I didn't open the door like that peanutbutter.!!! Though pretty sure I've already flashed a delivery driver and the next door neighbour when I've forgotten to do my shirt back up again after a feed!! Grin
Also sometimes it just feels pointless buttoning back up when feeding is so constant!!

Still in size 1 nappies here but she's on the smaller side. Though reckon from weighing her just at home that she's coming up 10lb now! Not so dinky anymore! We use the Aldi nappies, they're great, actually seem to get on with them better than the pampers ones.

Ooh I want to take E to baby swimming too Kitty need to have a look for classes! I guess you need to get a special kind of nappy? How does that work? Hope your Tesco delivery came quickly (with lots of yummy food!) and you got a sleep in yourself. MIL cane over yesterday afternoon and I went back to bed for a bit, managed an hour and a half nap it was great!! My mum is coming on Wednesday for a few days too, looking forward to a bit of extra help!

marmitecheesetoast · 06/06/2017 06:54

Ooh and I'm just doing my pelvic floor again as I type - your post reminded me again kitty! Maybe we can all just remind each other on here haha!

peanut2017 · 06/06/2017 08:18

I downloaded an app called Squeezy which reminds you throughout the day to do your pelvic floor exercises! Will give it a go but do need a reminder!

Conor has been grunting and straining more or less the whole night! Hasn't been like that for ages. Think he might be constipated although his poo is generally soft (sorry tmi -have never discussed poo and wee in all my life) but he's crying some of the time which is not good! Gave him cooled back boiling water which he was disgusted by and got up a little bit of it now! Sleeping soundly on me now! Anyone's little one got constipation?

I'm not in the uk so not sure what the nct is? We had 3 classes that I attended and got friendly with one girl but we didn't exchange details. The other classes were with your other half and we did it over one day but you could have done 5 classes. Friendly with a girl from aqua aerobics but she has fallen off the radar and also a girl I know through work but she has also fallen off the radar! People are busy themselves so I totally get it.

The girls in the baby massage seemed nice don't get me wrong but think it was more about me feeling comfortable doing stuff with conor and the fact that he will scream when we are out and about!

Looking into the water babies too - meant to be great for them!

peanut2017 · 07/06/2017 13:39

Marmite the consultant just asked me if I had any burning questions??? Just examined me and marvelled at his handy work and said the episiotomy looks good Smile and then asked me to squeeze which is when he then said about pelvic floor exercises!! Didn't take my blood pressure! Got my iron checked again as was still low after the blood transfusions which is great!

Peanut butter I'm already on the size 2 nappies and just using up the size 1 we have left. Definitely the size 2 at night! Conor was fairly big to start with and is already in 3 to 6 month old clothes! Was a bit sad putting the 0-3 months away (currently in a black bag as have no room)

Think Conor has constipation as not going for a day or two and straining a lot and in pain! Then had two massive poi explosions yesterday as if he is blocked up and then it all comes out. Rang doctor and she said to give him 2.5ml of laxative (can't think of name) but I take it too as have constipation along with some lovely piles Smile so let's hope that works!

peanutbutter310 · 07/06/2017 14:07

I decided to bite the bullet and move up a size, but despite that had another poo explosion this morning. Just as I'd made myself a cup of tea as well Hmm Definitely time to check out some other brands I reckon.

Kitty how did you find the baby swim? I'm another one that would like to try it. Would love for her to grow up confident around water.

I got lucky with a last minute place on a baby massage course, so we're starting that tomorrow. Sounds like the first day is just a bit of an introduction then from next week we do the massages. Hoping there's some time built in to chat with the other mums.

Nice reminder on the pelvic floor exercises ladies, I've been squeezing away while I worked on this post Wink

TopKittyKat · 07/06/2017 23:12

I'm now doing my pelvic floors too! Great reminding Grin

The baby swim was great. You sing nursery rhymes and dip baby in and out of the water and get them used to floating in water and going underwater. My little one went straight to sleep afterwards and slept well that evening for once.

You have to use special swim nappies (you can get them in most stores) and then a neoprene outer nappy that it sort of like a wetsuit and forms a seal around the legs and tummy so that nothing can escape. They cost about Β£10.

I'm looking into doing baby massage too. My local class starts from 10 weeks. I need to contact them to register us.

Luckily we haven't had constipation yet, so no advice I'm afraid. I hope you get it sorted.

marmitecheesetoast · 10/06/2017 11:13

Baby swim sounds great kitty definitely want to give that a go.

Just a quick post to say we've started doing double dose infacol for the last few feeds of the evening and does seem to have helped a little bit with wind in the evening (seems to get worse throughout the day) don't know if might be helpful for others struggling with windy babies still.

Had my mum down for the last few days which has been so nice, such a great help having that extra pair of hands. She's just left and feeling a bit teary now. So wish we lived closer! DH is off next week though yay!

What's anyone got planned this weekend? Grim weather here... hate not getting out makes me feel a bit cabin fevery and as though I've done nothing but sit on the sofa and feed all day...

Just doing my pelvic floor!! Ha ha

peanutbutter310 · 10/06/2017 20:54

Lovely that you've got help during the week marmite. DH was at home a couple of days last week and it makes all the difference to have somebody to share the load with.

Weather here has turned for the better again, so we popped DD in the sling for a nice long walk and stopped off for lunch. Hope that you manage to get out of the house tomorrow!

DD been fussing ever since we got back though, feeding on and off throughout the entire evening. Am hoping that it's her six week growth spurt rather than coming down with something.

Kitty, the swimming sounds great! Our first massage class went well, she slept through the entire thing but I was able to watch and then try it out at home afterwards. It was really nice to have a chat and compare notes with the other mums as well.

Hope that everybody is having a good weekend!

TopKittyKat · 15/06/2017 15:32

Hi all,
I love that we've got some sun but our little one is struggling in this heat! Our house is like an oven. Unfortunately we (DH and I) got struck down with a stomach bug and so have been stuck inside for the past few days. Jeez it's tough looking after a baby when you're both ill!

Peanutbutter - I hope it was just a growth spurt. How is your DD now?

peanutbutter310 · 18/06/2017 10:04

Hope you're both feeling better Kitty, it's hard enough looking after a baby when in good health, can't imagine it's much fun when sick!

It was a rough week with DD, but then on Friday night she slept 12 hours with just one feed, and from yesterday morning her whole disposition has changed. She's much cheerier and we didn't really have any crying yesterday. So hopefully we're through this growth spurt / mental leap now!

We're taking shelter in the air conditioning this morning, then out for a Father's Day lunch later. How is everybody else getting on?

marmitecheesetoast · 18/06/2017 16:37

Oh no what a nightmare kitty hope you're both feeling better now.

I know it's so hard in this heat. Baby Matmite had been spending a lot of time just in her nappy! Funny to think how things change, previously would've been spending this weather barbecuing and drinking in the sun and now all about how to keep her as cool as possible!

peanutbutter we had that last night too! She slept 11pm - 5.45am!! Amazing! My boobs were v full and leaky when I woke up this morning though!!! Wonder if it was just a fluke that one off or likely to be repeated!!?

peanutbutter310 · 19/06/2017 08:50

Seems like a once off for us marmite, although despite being back up to two feeds she's going to sleep earlier and waking up later, and settling much quicker when she does wake. So I'm managing to get a bit more sleep than before. Hope that things have stayed better for you!

marmitecheesetoast · 19/06/2017 09:22

We had til 5.45am again this morning (sorry!) doubt it'll last forever but nice when it does! She was up briefly at 1am but not for long. Are you guys still swaddling your babies? I know you're supposed to stop I think around 2 months or so as they can start learning to roll over onto their fronts and it can be dangerous? So we're coming up to that time... I don't think she would sleep at all if her arms were out though, that's the one thing that always wakes her up, if an arm escapes the swaddle! Just been swaddling her in a large muslin in this heat which has worked really well, and leaving her legs out!

peanutbutter310 · 20/06/2017 12:32

That's great marmite! DD never really took to swaddling - I sometimes hold her hands down to help her drop off, but luckily they never caused much of a problem when she needs to resettle.

peanut2017 · 21/06/2017 09:34

Morning - sorry haven't been on in awhile. Getting into the swing of it!

I find the sleepyhead great for Conor as he likes to fill snug so will get the larger one when we move him into the cot. We have it as an insert in the snuzpod. Also use it for tummy time and it's portable.

Conor still a bit windy so no words of wisdom really. Went to paedetrican last week and she said he's not constipated just full of wind which is then drying out his poo (sorry tmi) and then he can have these explosions. Trying the massage so hope this will help! Still using the infacol and then the odd cooled back boiling water which we really doesn't like.

Just the last few days I've been able to drop a bottle and get him feeding every 4 hours which has made things much easier, he has also just started to go down from 11pm until 6am so fingers crossed it will last.

Still having managed to get back to any exercise for me yet except for walking. Went to physio last week and she did an internal on both ends - again sorry for the tmi but think at this stage after what we have all been through that there is no dignity left. She worked on me Shock my coccyx is still at me. Meant to be doing exercises but have barely done them once every other day.

How are you all coping with the weather? Think you guys in the uk have been getting hotter weather than in Ireland but God love is here we can't handle it! Conor just in a vest most of the time
