Starting our new one!

That's really not right, biscuits. They need to be on top of this - leaving kids in wet clothes is not on. So sorry to hear.

Biscuits, are you certain it was a proper accident that dried out? Polly often comes home with pants in a terrible state which seems to be the consequence of repeated ineffective wipes and maybe the odd bit escaping before she gets there. Because it doesn't seem to bother her she never says anything. I'm sure they would change her if they detected it but they just don't seem to.

Sunny, your brother sounds like he is looking for justification to send them private rather than their actually being a problem! Private school would be a nightmare for us. Closest is a good few miles away!

Biscuitswithtea · 19/04/2017 22:22

99% certain Bean. Clearly without being there I can't be totally sure. But at home if he has a micro wee before he gets to the loo then the front of his pants will be damp, and trousers usually stay dry or have a tiny damp patch at the front. His trousers today were absolutely honking front and back.

Just finished Broadchurch finale. I think I would like my children to stay young and innocent please. I will take toilet training over negotiating the world of porn and consent with them!

NoWordForFluffy · 20/04/2017 06:11

Poor sausage. I'd be so upset for DD if that was happening to her. Definitely have a word and see what procedures they're meant to be following and what steps they'll take to ensure it doesn't happen again. Then, an official complaint if it happens again.

I wish DD wasn't bothered by a micro wee...any slight damp in her knickers and she wants a new pair. We get through a lot of knickers! 😂

Biscuitswithtea · 20/04/2017 14:52

I spoke to ds's keyworker (as did DH at drop off) and she appears to be on it a bit more thoroughly (I should hope so as she is also the deputy manager) and would appear to get that it simply isn't okay.

She is also concerned about how tired DS gets.
Can I ask, do any of your 2013 kiddies still nap?
DS generally doesn't, though isn't opposed to falling asleep in the car or if he is watching tv. But he keeps falling asleep at nursery 🙁
He also zones out a lot which I think is partly tiredness.
But he sleeps okay at night, generally 11hrs solid.

Starting to wonder if a trip to the doctor would be a good idea

Sunbeam18 · 20/04/2017 16:56

No naps here now, biscuits. Though if coming home from a day trip at about 5pm then wouldn't say never.

Raeside · 20/04/2017 17:08

J still naps maybe once or twice a week. Did a solid 2hrs today but hasn't for the week previously due to childcare/outings, etc. It's def on the slide.....sadly!!

Sunbeam18 · 20/04/2017 17:09

Wow, we haven't had naps since July last year!

I do miss them from the reading point of view - got through some great novels as he napped in the car!

DD hasn't been able to nap since she started nursery in September. Prior to that she was still napping for 2-3 hours a day! If she hadn't started nursery I think she still would be. She struggled a bit for the first couple of weeks and had to have a short nap when she got home from nursery but she doesn't need one any more. She gets tired, but can get through it. They did offer us the last morning place but we turned it down as the afternoons work well for us (and we thought she'd have to get used to it anyway). They also said they were happy for her to nap there if required but she hasn't wanted to.

I wouldn't worry about it. There was an NHS chart somewhere that said it's perfectly normal for them to need naps until 4/5 (I saved it to show to my family who have short memories and thought DD was abnormal for still napping at 2/3!). There's a child in DD's class who regularly falls asleep and is sometimes carried out asleep! They're still so young!

AutoCat · 20/04/2017 17:46

I've found it, it hasn't saved the source though.

Thanks Auto. That's helpful and reassuring.
I think he finds nursery tiring (it is busy and constant) so it makes sense that he would be more tired there.

Found out today that his school nursery slot will be in the morning. Thank heavens. I don't think he would cope well with an afternoon slot!

Sunbeam18 · 20/04/2017 21:07

Yes, I think the school nurseries tend to give the preschoolers the mornings and the 3- year-olds afternoons. It's to prepare them for being out of the door early each morning for school, I was told.

Lil stopped napping a year ago but that was stubbornness not to miss out on time with the baby. She still zonks put after busy days like after forest school. Unfortunately if she naps during the day she's up late tearing her room apart.

Fingers crossed it gets better soon Biscuits

NoWordForFluffy · 22/04/2017 08:46

DD hasn't really napped in 2 years. She takes advantage of car journeys though, and sometimes dozes on the sofa, but it's hit and miss!

BeanCalledPickle · 22/04/2017 17:21

Christ Polly left her nap behind before she was 2.5 and Juno has just started to cut hers right down. I predict she will drop it just as Polly starts school:)

Raeside · 29/04/2017 08:30

Yeah so it turns out Joe's napping was an early hint of proper unwellness which ended up with an admission to Chelsea & Westminster for pneumonia. Do not recommend!

Biscuitswithtea · 29/04/2017 13:11

Oh no! Pneumonia! Poor poor thing. I hope he recovers quickly x

SunnyL · 29/04/2017 14:43

Oh poor Joe (and you). Hope he's back to strength now.

Can I ask about car seats? We've been using an Axis but it says it's only up to age 4. Has anyone already upgraded their car seats? I really liked the axis because it spins which helps my back when putting her in the seat but clearly she can climb in herself now.

Biscuitswithtea · 29/04/2017 15:43

Carseats- I believe there is a height/weight element for growing out of stage 1 seats (that is typically reached at 4yo). Height wise I think the top of the head (or possibly the eye level?) needs to be below the top of the seat.
DS is short so should last his for a while yet (so I haven't given it much thought) but some of his peers have moved into the next one already.

Raeside · 29/04/2017 16:05

Thanks all. He's on the improve. Bloody horrid though and was nearly driven to murder by having to share hospital rooms with noisy buggers.

Interested to learn about seats too. Prob we have is J is tallish but skinny so hasn't reached the weight limit yet. Is only about 16kg. Unsure what we should do....,

NoWordForFluffy · 29/04/2017 16:59

Oh no, Rae. Hope he's better soon.

We are using the Britax Evolva 123 at the moment. But we are going to change to the Britax Kid Fix II shortly (when we can trust her with a seatbelt rather than a harness. She's at weight I think for moving up, but can we trust her?!

AutoCat · 30/04/2017 07:10

Oh no, I hope he's better soon.

We ended up going for the Maxi Cosi Rodifix Airprotect (for ages 3.5 to 12, so that'll be it now). It's an isofix seat where you use the seatbelt instead of a harness but DD is Miss Sensible. She's been in it a good few months (she's 91st centile) and we've had no issues. She climbs in herself.

Sunbeam18 · 01/05/2017 22:50

Poor Joe, that sounds awful. Hope he's feeling better.
We moved up to a seatbelt car seat some time ago with no problems. I think this one now lasts until booster seat stage.
Rae, i think it's ok to move up car seat size if EITHER the height or the weight restriction is reached.

OP posts:
NoWordForFluffy · 02/05/2017 07:19

DH likes the harness as they're a bit safer in a crash when they're little. DD isn't really that little though, as she's tall. Her weight centile is lower than her height, but she's doing the typical thing of shooting up without increasing weight along the same lines.

We will weigh her this week to see if she needs to come out of the harness.
