Hoping everyone had a lovely Mother's Day. We had Benjamin christened yesterday, it was a beautiful sunny and warm day and we had a lovely service, Ben was a star, he slept up until the crucial moment and just smiled as the vicar poured the water over his head! We had everyone back to ours for a bit of a afternoon tea/buffet. Such a lovely day.

primaryboodle · 27/03/2017 12:04

Aww becks thats lovely:)

Totally agree rolly i love the sunshine!

Just a tip for anyone like me with a rock and concrete garden - bought some foam mats for £10 off ebay and annie had a fab time bum shuffling in the sunshine yesterday :)

purpleviolet1 · 27/03/2017 18:51

Lots of new faces on here but also some old names which I recognise. I was part of the July 2016 ante natal club but unfortunately I miscarried (used to post under cheekychick$$$). I fell pregnant quickly after and was due in January 2017 but unfortunately miscarried again. I was fortunate to fall pregnant shortly after though and I just wanted to let you know I've had a lovely little boy! 12 days old. He is the most perfect thing ever xxx

julf · 27/03/2017 19:26

Purple / Cheeky! (And I think you had another name before that, no? I was Julfin, in case you couldn't guess...) Many congratulations! So happy for you! Thank you for coming back to let us know the good news xx

beckslovestimmy · 27/03/2017 20:15

Wow congratulations purple sorry to hear about the miscarriages. Hopefully your baby boy will help to mend your heart. Boys are great fun. Enjoy those newborn snugglesFlowers

julf · 28/03/2017 12:43

Is there anyone here who lives in/near London and isn't on the fb group? There are plans for a meet-up on a weekday between 10 April and 05 May. Give me a shout if you're interested and don't have access.

beckslovestimmy · 28/03/2017 17:38

Scrambled eggs were a big hit tonight with a bit of toast and marmite. Easily dinner in the bag!!

Rubytuesday2980 · 28/03/2017 22:31

Ok, so julf I am new to the app and can't work out how to private messageConfused My initials are RAM and I've gone about it slightly differently if that helps?!
No sleep training here either.... 12 hours?! 6 in a row if I'm lucky!

Becks I do hope he crawls soon, he gets himself up onto all fours and gets so frustrated, poor little man. Love that you had Ben christened on Mothers Day, he's looking so grown up! I was thinking about introducing a muslin too - did you just keep one with him everywhere you went to start with?

Is there a van update Rolly?!

Happy first Mother's Day with all of these gorgeous little ones, hope you all congratulated yourselves and for those who are missing someone, I hope you found a quiet moment for some happy memories xx

Rubytuesday2980 · 28/03/2017 22:34

Sunday do any of your local cinemas do screenings that you can take your baby to? I'm spending my last couple of weeks enjoying the freedom, but nothing amazing planned, just lots of cuddles and mum & baby time.

beckslovestimmy · 29/03/2017 08:07

Ruby not really sure how I started it. I almost always have one with me to wipe up sick/milk. I just noticed one day he liked cuddling into it so kept doing it. He doesn't have it at night (there is nothing in his cot for safety reasons) but has it for all other naps and he sees it as a signal for sleep now.

beckslovestimmy · 03/04/2017 08:04

Uh oh, the walking has started!!!! Ben has started to take a few steps not holding on now!!!! He's only 9months and 1 week!!!!!

birchybaby2 · 05/04/2017 11:39

Wow Ben. There's no stopping you now. We only mastered rolling last week but since then have progressed quickly to rolling and going backwards.
Anyone else finding this bit harder than the baby stage? Constantly on the move and poor sleep. It's wearing me out.along with the dreaded return to work!!!! Aaarrrrggghhh last week of maternity leave this week, annual leave next week and then back to the grind stone.
Need help with sleep. D feeds to sleep and can get him down in cot but wakes frequently as he won't settle until he goes on boob. 5 wake ups Monday night.
Sorry quick post as D playing round me. Good job he's cute and loveable. Xx

sundaysunday · 05/04/2017 21:50

Becks Walking! I bet that took you by surprise! E has just started crawling so my days of him staying put are over :)

Having a quick holiday in the UK before I'm back at work next month. Hope you got your van troubles sorted rolly and are enjoying your eurotrip.

Birchy I'm the opposite. I'm loving this bit but struggled with the pre 6 month stage. E is happier to entertain himself now he can reach his toys and I find it a lot easier to get out and about with him because we can go longer between feeding (bottle feeding while out is a pain in the arse sometimes). However he does usually sleep well at night so I get how hard it is for you with D waking often. How are you doing with solids? I'm guessing it's a comfort thing rather than hunger. Could try a comforter/muslin/toy at night if you don't already? Would he settle eventually without a bf to try and get him out of the habit? Argggh you'll need your sleep when you are back at work. Health visitor might have some tips if she's any good.

primaryboodle · 06/04/2017 09:37

Hi all!

The thread is so quiet now the babies are so physically demanding. I do look back on the early sitting on the sofa feeding days with rose tinted glasses :)

I finally got myself a part time supply job til summer then got a full time permanent job from september (over an internal candidate! I was so happy!!) So enjoying my last 2 weeks of mat leave now.

Weve found a childminder but annie screamed for all of the 2 hour settlig in session the other day - have sent her back for another 2 hours this morning so im mnetting in a nearby cafe 😂

Annie is eating really well now and down to 3 milk feeds per day but cannot get her to sleep at night - its mainly 2 hour stretches, sometimes three but im averaging 5/6 wakeups from bedtime til morning argh!

How is everyone else? What are your plans for returning to work?

Rubytuesday2980 · 06/04/2017 10:36

So the time has come, am sitting in a car park, wondering what on earth to do with myself (apart from cry) while H has his last settling in session at nursery. So emosh about leaving him here for the whole day on Monday and have completely wimped out of dropping him off that day, so am going to work super early and will pick him up instead (DH and I will be alternating on drop offs/pick ups). I guess, in answer to your question primary, plans are in place but my head is not!! Congrats on the job though, that's brilliant

Birchy, some thoughts on sleeping/settling - H settles himself now for daytime naps and when he first goes to bed (nighttime wake ups are a completely different matter). We've been really strict with bedtime routine: tea at 5, then he gets a good half hour or so to let that go down and play before bath at 615, then into pjs in his room with the curtains closed and lights dimmed for me to feed him. I then tell him that it's bedtime and put him in his sleeping bag, kiss him goodnight and turn out the light. We used to then sit with him until he fell asleep, but he generally just rolls over and falls asleep now, or is fine if we walk away. Am not going to pretend that this happened quickly, but there's been no controlled crying etc and if I put him in bed with the curtains closed during the day, he definitely understands that it's sleep time. I still feed back to sleep during the night though, as am too lazy to do anything else! It's only a couple of times, and he does sometimes stir and re-settle now.

H started properly crawling yesterday! So cute to watch, although nothing is safe!!

Wow, wow, Ben, that's amazing! Becks, he's such a little star x

beckslovestimmy · 06/04/2017 13:18

Birchy I think I prefer this stage and actually can't wait until he can walk confidently outside. This may be because I have an older one and it'll be easier once they can run around together. If we go to the park at the mo Ben doesn't want to be in the buggy but is not able to crawl around on the dirty/hard/muddy ground.

Can't help with the sleep as Ben is great and he's a bottle feeder. Maybe try a few nights of DP/DH doing the settling with you out of sight? May help break the link of settling with boob?

Sunday hope you enjoy your UK break. The walking has surprised us DD didn't take any steps until she was 16 months so 9 months was a bit of a shock!

Primary congrats on the jobs, must be a weight off your mind to be sorted now. I'm sure Annie will be fine with the child minder and come to live her in time.

Ruby well done to H on the crawling. He'll be bro everything now! Ben loves the dishwasher and it drives me potty. If I'm loading/unloading he just pulls things out and chicks the on the floor. I must put the stair gate up on the entrance to the kitchen!!!

beckslovestimmy · 11/04/2017 21:42

Here he is in his first pair of shoes looking pretty pleased with himself!

Aww Becks, gorgeous!

Keep meaning to update, but Jasper's new nap schedule (i.e. hardly any napping!) has made it tricky.

In the meantime, those of you who are interested in parenting styles and personality types might find this worth a read:

I've recently done my Myers-Briggs, so found it quite interesting. If you haven't, you can do yours at a link in the article.

primaryboodle · 14/04/2017 11:15

Gorgeous shoes Ben! Can't believe how grown up he looks - he really looks like his newborn photos! Annie looks really different now.

Back to work on Tuesday :( really struggling to get Annie to settle with the childminder but thank god she has finally taken a bottle!!!

Anyone else going through a horrendous sleep phase at the moment? She's always woken up loads in the night but now I can't get her to go back to sleep, and even when she finally does the moment she's put down then BAM she's up again.. don't know what to do!

beckslovestimmy · 14/04/2017 18:44

Thanks julf primary he seems so grown up now and it's hilarious watching him toddling round like a drunk.

Primary I did a mandatory training day this week and DH and the kids were fine. I actually enjoyed it and am really looking forward to going back to work. Sorry to hear about the rubbish sleep it's so hard when they won't sleep. Hope it's just a short phase.

julf · 16/04/2017 23:37

Brace yourselves for an epic catch-up! I've been writing this for days...

Bluebs, how are your buebs? And how's it going with the formula? We've still got a personal best of 3oz here - not very impressive.

Ruby - so you've been back at work for a few days now? How is it?
Sounds as if you've totally nailed the bedtime routine - well done you. Glad it's paying off. Yes I do nighttime feeding too - I actually think it means I get more sleep than if I tried not to - it really doesn't bother me and I generally fall straight back asleep once I've got J out of the cot and into our bed to feed. But I do think all three of us sleep better when he's in his cot, so I'm trying harder to put him back in his cot after the feeds, rather than co-sleeping for hours.

Sunday - how are the last few/couple weeks of maternity leave going? Hope you're having fun. Nice holiday? Have you managed to do the tweaking you wanted to do to E's routine? Try not to fret if not - I'm sure hubby will work it out - the most important thing is to enjoy your last couple of weeks of leave.
Beauty and the Beast: I loved it. I've got a bit of (massive) a girl-crush on Emma Watson, so I'd probably have liked it regardless, but actually I thought it was excellent. Great cast in general, even if I did only realise that at the end when they all stopped being teapots and candlesticks etc! Definitely watch it when it's out on the small screen, if you missed it at the cinema.
Glad to hear that our breastfeeding woes are helping you feel better about not bf 😄 Now that Jasper a) has teeth and b) likes to stand up, sit down, stand up for his meals, breastfeeding is less enjoyable than it once was. Plus, he seems much more like a child than a baby now, and so somehow (personal opinion) bf just doesn't seem quite as right as it used to. Also the fact that he recently worked out how to use my nip as a water-pistol... I'm rather looking forward to when he stops needing my boobs.
Re cuddly toys, J was given lots as presents, and I've recently started keeping about 6 in his cot. As there's so many of them, I'm not worried that he'd be overly affected if we lost one. I'd previously kept them all up on a shelf at bedtime as I thought they would distract him from getting to sleep, but actually it doesn't seem to make much of a difference - he's either sleepy or not and the cuddly toys aren't the deciding factor in that.

Yes my new job is similar to stuff that I've done in the past. It's in a different sector, but it's a strategy role which I've done before and really enjoyed. It's now only a month until I go back to work - can't believe how quickly these last few weeks are flying. But they've agreed to the month's holiday that we'd already booked, which is mid-June to mid-July, so basically I've got a month back, then a month away travelling, then back 4reelz from mid-July. I'm quite looking forward to work actually. And I don't think the commute will be too bad - it's somewhat further than before, but I think I'll still be able to cycle (about an hour), or do a half-run-half-tube commute, which will make it manageable (and which won't actually take much more time than just taking the tube all the way, so is worth doing - I don't suppose I'll find time to do any exercise otherwise).

Rolly - looking forward to hearing more about your van trip!
Our nanny isn't yet sorted, but I'm feeling fairly positive about it. For the month between me starting work and our month-long trip, he'll be looked after by a combination of my mum and a temporary nanny, and then when we get back in mid-July we'll have a permanent nanny with a nanny-share partner. I've been in touch with a couple of nanny agencies and think we're definitely making the right decision - not just because a two-child nanny-share is more affordable than nurseries around here, but also because Jasper is definitely better suited to a more personal type of childcare. He's not the type of child who'll happily sit on the floor and play for more than about a minute - he's constantly moving and needs someone who can chase after him 😝

Becks - glad you enjoyed the christening. And congratulations (commiserations?) on the walking. Pics of both please!
My goodness, the dishwasher (one of my favourite household appliances, incidentally. Yes, I have favourite household appliances...) is currently the bane of my life - Jasper absolutely loves it and insists on crawling inside it when I'm trying to empty it. Very nearly had an incident with a washing tablet the other day 😬

Birchy - sorry you're finding this phase tough. I'm finding it knackering but fun. (Certainly not harder than the newborn stage for me, but then that basically broke me!). I hope your last couple of weeks of leave have been nice, and that work goes well too. Any progress on the sleep front? Massive sympathies to you, dealing with that challenge at the same time as going back to work.

Primary - congrats on the job, and especially on beating an internal candidate - go you! Is it the same age-group that you were doing before? Hope you've been enjoying the last couple of weeks of mat leave too. Good luck on Tuesday - thinking of you. Good news about Annie's bottle. I'm sure she'll be fine with the childminder once she gets into the swing of it and gets to know her.

Jasper is so much fun at the moment. His personality is really shining through, all the more so now that he can move himself around. He's an adventurer and an explorer, like his father. He never stops moving, examining, inspecting. He crawls at top speed (I have my own personal shuffly shadow following me round the house), and walks (slowly) holding onto things. He opens drawers, takes things out, distributes them liberally round the house, and leaves a trail of chaos and mayhem in his wake. He recently decided that sitting in his pushchair wasn't adventurous enough, and he worked out how to escape from his (slightly loose) seatbelt and turn around to face forward (it's a rear-facing pushchair), a bit like he was riding a Roman chariot, or like that iconic scene from Titanic. I've now had to re-thread the straps so that he's tied down tight, which he absolutely hates. What he really loves nowadays is walking around the house holding onto my forefingers (with me walking behind him). The best part is when he sees himself in a mirror, at which point he grins and starts running towards himself Grin Some recent pics attached.

Well folks, 9 months: As long outside as in. Can't believe how quickly the time's flown, and how much has changed!

Oh, and happy Easter everyone! xx

Will reply to your epic catch up later julf - just popping on to say wish me luck! (Well wish annie luck... i hope she doesnt cry all day Confused)

sundaysunday · 18/04/2017 08:53

Ooh good luck primary! I bet today will fly by.

I will also do a 'proper' post later. We've been away from home for Easter and travelling back today. Hopefully the M1 will be kind!

sundaysunday · 19/04/2017 19:43

So how was it primary? And did she settle ok at childminders? Am sure you are shattered now. Hows her sleeping? Could it be teething pain, E has woken a few times recently with it, luckily he's usually fairly easy to settle back down. Just the sight of the calpol bottle is enough to perk him up Hmm

Birchy any improvement with sleeping also?

Becks I think I'd like E to start walking soon, he's so heavy to carry around! Just over 22lb when he was weighed last week. Where did you get shoes from? The only place I know is Clarke's but I've heard some complaints about quality but I don't know where else to look. A lovely pic from the christening too!

Julf yes we've tweaked our loose routine so that he goes to bed slightly earlier and have dropped a milk feed by bringing his tea forward to 6pm. I just hope DH will stick to it once I'm back at work. The move into his own room went well too but we've been away from home a lot in the last fortnight so he's been used to sleeping somewhere different. You mentioned J wasn't napping much now, is it just that he needs less sleep or is he having trouble getting off? I can't imagine trying to bf with teeth! E leaves dents when he bites my finger. We've also had a few water pistol incidents with the bottle Smile

Your 'back to work for a month/holiday for a month' sounds like a great way to ease back into it. I've not got holiday booked until September but I'm sure it'll go very fast. I've only got a half hour drive to work but I'm looking forward to sticking some music on and being neither mummy or employee during that time!

As for us, E has some teeth just broken through now and is totally confused about them! He keeps sort of feeling them with his fingers and tongue. He's still only crawling backwards and I'm getting tired of rescuing him from under the furniture! I can't believe how much he's eating now, this evening he's had; pasta with sauce, yoghurt, a pear, grapes, half a scotch pancake, french bread, and two potato wedges! No wonder I'm struggling to carry him.

Hope everyone enjoyed the Easter break and scoffed a few chocolate eggs! Easter Smile
