........and dd has been at school all morning and what have i done? sod all. sat here on my backside watching tv, drinking tea and entertaining dd2 - basically by moving her from playmat to play station thing, to chair and rocking her with my foot whilst on mumsnet. i am so tired....

...she woke every HOUR last night and at 2 dd1 came in the room and wanted to get in bed with me (dh is away). i have never ever let her do this and she rarely asks, but i just said 'ok'. then after half an hour of me not sleeping she woke and said she wanted her pj's on (our room is colder than her's) so i carried her back to bed an she went straight to sleep. then dd2 woke. why did i not have a nap this morning instead?

sorry for rant!

oh and the point of telling you about the hourly waking was to say i think it was dummy related. think i need to get rid. what are your experiences of the damn thing? dd1 never had one. dd1 is now dependant!

OP posts:
bozza · 25/09/2007 15:51

I know it is not funny really but LOL at clearly she did understand and the bin line. Neither of mine had dummies so I cannot help. DD is usually ok with felt tips and is only allowed them when sat at the table. But having an older brother makes them more of a presence.

brandnewhelsy · 26/09/2007 20:17

Egypt, Dd1 had a dummy until she was 3. Tried to take it away form her at 2 - she wasn't ready, so once we relaxed about it and didn't worry she just stopped using it of her own accord. Dd2 wouldn't have one (I bought her a few).

Twiglett · 26/09/2007 20:19

ooo errrrr ... you lot still going?

Twiglett · 26/09/2007 20:21
Egypt · 01/10/2007 10:56

hi twiggy. yes we are, sad aren't we!

have chilled about the dummy. she only uses it to go down with at bedtime, so that's fine. her sleeping has settled much more so not too fussed now........until the next bad night!

brandnewhelsy · 07/10/2007 20:45

What do you mean, sad? I expect this thread to be going when we're discussing what sort of mother of the bride outfits we will be wearing..
Hope you're all ok. Our local school has just announced that it will open a preschool in January 08, which theoretically would suit us as dd1 is at the school and dd2 is desperate to go to school with her, but they've not given a lot of detail particularly about the "wrap around care" they're planning if you need more than the standard 2.5 hour sessions am and pm, and dd2 is perfectly happy with her nursery which is also v close, so I'm waiting for more information before making a decision.
I accompanied my nephew to a university open day at the weekend and realised with a shock that I'll be nearly 60 when doing the same for dd2 - and started worrying about how embarrassed she'll be to have a wrinkled old prune hobbling around after her.
DH broke his wrist last week playing footy. Can't drive therefore can't work, can't do much really. Blimming self-inflicted, too.

bozza · 11/10/2007 09:12

How is DH doing then helsy? I will be 49 when DD is going to university so quite a young thing. I have just put some photos in that you lot should be able to view.

brandnewpumpkin · 12/10/2007 12:36

I can't get to your pictures, Bozza - are they on your profile? Just changed my name for Hallowe'en - could that have made a difference?
DH is ok, signed off work for another week and bored. We were both off with dd2 yesterday and today, which has been really nice. Harvest festival at school this afternoon, got to go.

bozza · 13/10/2007 20:41

Maybe it will have made a difference because I added you to my mates as brandnewhelsy. I will add brandnewpumpkin because I don't know if it is clever enough to detect name changes.

I have had an expensive day today - trainers for DD and boots for DS. We are having an extended family meal for my Grandad's 95th birthday tomorrow and I couldn't bear the idea of DS going in his manky, dirty trainers. We actually agreed on a pair of boots we both liked and I managed to get DD some trainers without lights on - told her they had sparkles on. So quite successful really.

bozza · 13/10/2007 20:43

OK helsy/pumpkin you can try again when you get chancee.

brandnewpumpkin · 17/10/2007 21:02

Lovely pictures Bozza!
Dd2 trapped her finger in the door tonight . She's ok now. Good news is that last night and tonight she got herself to sleep! We realised last week that we always sit with her and let her stroke our hair before she goes to sleep, and that we should try to stop it really. Last night it took her until 9pm, but tonight it was almost instant! Here's hoping...
Anyone's dds got boots this year? I'm planning on getting some for both dds this weekend but not sure what to get. Dd1 has always had coloured/patterned DMs but she wants something more "trendy" this year, so I might start dd2 on the DMs. Well, I'm too old and responsible to keep wearing mine

bozza · 18/10/2007 16:00

So can't tempt you with pictures helsy? DD has boots. I wanted some brown zip up ones. But unfortunately they wouldn't go on her feet due to her high instep. so she ended up with red patent startrite ones with velcro that she chose. I've not had any DMs since I was at university.

pepperrabbit · 20/10/2007 20:17

Hi all, I've been on holiday, a hen night and everyone's had the nasty throwing up bug so that explains my silence for the last month.
PR does a quick twirl to show off fading tan...
We went to Crete and had a lovely but not very relaxing time - how old are kids before they realise that mummy & daddy are on holiday too??? 30 probably.
The hen night, for my soon to be sister in law was absolutley terrifying. I'm far too old for the male stripper (in cheap and nasty "club") game. and I so did not need to see a man flicking strawberry yoghurt up on to the ceiling only using his willy . Luckily I was wearing a shiny pink stetson to protect my hair. In hindsight it was (almost) hilarious but htere was far too much audience participation for my liking - the things some women were prepared to do!!!!!!!
I'm such a prude.
DH is off on my brother's stag weekend hence mumsnet on a saturday night.
Hope you're all well. Fab piccies Bozza, I might load some holiday one's after I've had some tea.

bozza · 20/10/2007 20:21

pr at your revelations. My DH is out too with some old friends and staying over. Children both tired because of school disco last night so I bathed them at 5.15 and then fed them beans on toast in their pjs in front of the dancing.

Holidays go too quickly, don't they? Ours are getting easier I think. The children settle into new places quicker and we managed a pattern where they could stay up until 10ish in the evening (involved late afternoon nap for DD and quiet time for DS and lie-ins - well what we call a lie-in nowadays).

pepperrabbit · 20/10/2007 23:30

Well I've managed to load 2 whole photos and then it just froze on me... and I gossiped on the phone for 2 hours to my best friend.
The holiday flew by but it was just what we needed and now we're full on till Xmas (I have only 3 free shopping saturdays left....and 2 families still to arrange to visit at weekends, stressy feelings just thinking about it)
I had the boys bathed and in bed as the clock struck 7 as well!

bozza · 21/10/2007 21:54

I love the arm bands photo. Looks like the boys had a good time.

DD has been hard work today. She has just about dropped her nap and she is tired a lot. I am thinking about moving her bedtime earlier. My friend and I, with our DS's went selling raffle tickets at the local garden centre today for Beavers. I was amazed at how good DS and his friend were at it. Really doing the little winsome faces combined with hard sell.

Then DS did his first draft of his Father Christmas letter which basically amounted to listing the contents of two pages of the Argos catalogue until he ran out of time. Then, of course, DD had to have the ELC catalogue and started pointing at anything pink that she saw. Although actually she is still very determined that she wants a boy Baby Born.

bozza · 28/10/2007 21:13

Are any of you lot on facebook? I have just signed up tonight and currently my only friend is DH. I think this makes me look rather sad. I went through a list of 220 people who graduated from Durham University in 1994 and found only one girl I knew who was on the other end of my corridor in the first year.

Ponka · 06/11/2007 21:59

Hi, How are you all? DS1 has the sickness bug that's been doing the rounds of central England these last few weeks so he's not been to nursery today and I've been scrubbing away. I'm guessing the rest of us won't be too far behind.

We are also on a bit of a home improvement mission. We've had double-glazing and are now embarking on decorating the lounge, which we so hated when we moved in about 7 years ago! Finally. It was a lovely combination of bright yellow above the dado rail and pinky plum below with a lovely stylish fruit border. We've half stripped the wallpaper off and it actually looks better than it did before like that!

My other news is that I won a Mumsnet competition. I never win anything. I won some silky designer pyjamas worth nearly £300 and they are on their way to me shortly. I really don't know if I can bring myself to wear them let alone put them in the washing machine. Perhaps I should ebay them. I could buy 20 pairs of pyjamas for that! I'm going to wait and see what they look like.

We've just bought DS's Christmas present. We got him a bike. We sort of put the idea in his head that it was what he wanted because he didn't have any ideas himself and he's completely run with it. It's great how they are still young enough to do that with!

Anyway, sorry I've not been around much. In fact, Bozza had to come and get me on facebook! Ahem - sorry! Anyone else on there?

I'm off to have a glass of wine now.

bozza · 06/11/2007 22:07

{grin] ponka. I am sort of thinking about changing my mumsnet name as I have been less than discreet on facebook and am slightly concerned about my anonymity and threads that I should have name changed for in the past etc. So if a new poster arrives on here do not be surprised.

We have got DD a playmobil doll's house off Ebay. She has been playing with DS's playmobil quite a bit (he has airport, plane, bus plus tons of other stuff) so thought she might like it. She is also determined that she wants a boy Baby Born. DS has got a Nintendo DS and probably a Liverpool away shirt. TBH he could do with a full strip since he is growing out of all his others as I noticed tonight at football practice but now he is too big for the mini kits just the shirt on his own his £30. We thought we could maybe get him shorts and socks for his birthday in Feb!

Ponka · 06/11/2007 23:10

I like your name. I don't see too many references to MN on your profile. I've just been to have a look. There's one under friend information but you could take that off. It is strange that all your worlds that you usually keep seperate all mix together on there.

I don't mind it myself because a) I'm usually good at name changing about anything remotely personal and b) all my rl friends and even colleagues know I come on here, although they don't know my name. In fact, they sort of roll their eyes a little when I start a sentence "Well, on Mumsnet..." for the 10th time that day

Judd · 06/11/2007 23:20

Just posting so I can find the thread again in future!
Bozza I'm on facebook and I've got 7 friends. You can be mine if you want, but I warn you I'm not very attentive to the whole kaboodle (eg. sending sweets and hatching eggs etc). I'll see if I can track you down ......
I want to get a Playmobil castle off Ebay for DS and a Dance Mat for DD.
I've got a job at lovely M&S for the Christmas period - 8pm - midnight shift!
Right, must go to bed, bye

bozza · 07/11/2007 09:52

D'you know Judd I really fancy working in a shop at Christmas for some bizarre reason. I am trying to think if I have any idea what your real life name is.

ponka the other thing is though that I am in the mumsnet group on facebook. I'm just worried that I might have been bitchy about people on here and they might recognise me. Well, that'll teach me won't it?

pepperrabbit · 07/11/2007 20:32

Bon soir, I'm on facebook and it's a terrible addiction - a bit like your first week on mumsnet!
I only know Ponka's name in real life so I've managed to find you and ask to be your friend ponka , but not sure about anyone else.
DS1 has asked several very interesting questions this week, clearly he's started pondering the meaning of life, but my favourite was
"do we live in Marks & Spencers?"
this was in response to the question "would you like a yoghurt?"
I think he's only actually been there once.

I tried to part exchange him at the shops today, he had such a huge tantrum in Clarks over some new trainers - his old one's were too small fgs. He's screaming "I don't want them, I'm tired, I need a rest!" at the TOP of his voice, and then while DS2 is dancing round in his new shoes, DS1 sneaks into the buggy. The noise when I tried to swap them over, using only the reasonable amount of force permitted in public, was incredible . I just stood there as they both went loopy. I genuinely toyed with the idea of just walking away. So I put my "this isn't happening" face on (very useful) and marched off to the dry cleaners with DS1 still screaming "I HATE THEM" and trying to pull his feet off.......
Deep breath,
