Baby Bjorn One Baby Carrier? The good, the bad and the ugly?

I can see that there are lots of threads on products and I'm pretty new to Mumsnet but I'm looking for advice on this baby carrier? Has anyone bought it? Thoughts and reviews would be really welcome as there isn't much out there in terms of reviews online or perhaps I'm looking in the wrong place...
:) thanks

I haven't used it but most people seem to be going for the Lillebaby at the moment.

WorldsBiggestGrotbag · 03/10/2015 06:19

I've got it and don't like it. Too bulky, clips are awkward to do on your own, not particularly comfy. Wish we'd gone for something like the lillebaby or an ergo baby.

Perugia · 03/10/2015 06:27

We had one and it was uncomfortable, straps dug in and it was fiddly. In the end I bought a Moby wrap (newborn stage) and a Catbirdbaby Piccolo from 9 months up. He still fits in it (18 months(, you can back carry too.

Try an ergo, they sell them in John Lewis too. More expensive than the Bjorn but they last a lot longer and are super comfortable!

TerryTylerlikesaTiger · 03/10/2015 07:31

Got to admit, I wouldn't like to be seen walking down the street in that. Why don't you consider a Tula, really comfy and lots of fun patterns and a bit cheaper..

icklekid · 03/10/2015 07:33

My ergo was cheaper than that and really comfy for me and ds even though hes 15 months now and heavy!

PotteringAlong · 03/10/2015 07:38

If you google sling library and your local area you will find somewhere that will probably have a large variety of slings to hire and you can try before you buy. Something like an ergo or connecta that are quick and easy to use maybe?

randomsabreuse · 03/10/2015 07:39

Currently have a close caboo which is great. Better than the Baby Bjorn original because you can manage a rucksack (change bag and spare clothes) on top of the jersey straps of the caboo.

Would consider washability and drying time as well (nappies can leak!)

If you have time a sling library is really helpful as well.

WorldsBiggestGrotbag · 03/10/2015 07:40

Ah yes, Tula's are nice too.

Qwertybynature · 03/10/2015 07:41

Do you have a sling library near you? It's always worth trying these things on before you buy, if you can. You can try on various slings / carriers and they'll also show you how to fit it properly. I found that there is quite a big difference between them depending on your shape / size, and if you're planning on carrying your baby for a couple of hours this can make a big difference to your comfort (i.e. Back and shoulder support / pains).

I bought a connecta as I have a long back and found this the most comfortable.

SummerDreams13 · 03/10/2015 07:45

I would have bought an Ergo but was gifted a new Bjorn - really wish I hadn't! It absolutely kills my back even when lo was small as the structure seems to hunch your shoulders over and causes a lot of tension in lower back. Really recommend a sling library ??

randomsabreuse · 03/10/2015 08:02

I always find it more comfortable with the cross over bit lower than I can get the Bjorn but DH is fine with it (and thinks the caboo is too girly). Noticed particularly due to my washability comment above going back to the baby bjorn after a month of the caboo hasn't been comfortable!

sleepyelectricsheep · 03/10/2015 08:06

Ergo etc are well-made with your comfort and the baby's in mind. Baby Born are a massive brand but not actually very well designed IME.

Avoid IMO.

sleepyelectricsheep · 03/10/2015 08:07

*Baby Bjorn! (Stupid autocorrect! )

sleepyelectricsheep · 03/10/2015 08:08

Yes a sling library is a great idea.

BreeVDKamp · 03/10/2015 08:10

Love our Tula!! Didn't realise Baby Bjorn had carriers that weren't crotch-danglers though so I never considered them.

Sleepybeanbump · 03/10/2015 08:10

Baby not arrived yet but I did some reading and trying on of different slings before my bump got massive. The bjorn was 'easier' to put on without practice (you have to reach arms behind head to do up ergo but it's fine once you have the straps set up right for you), but the end result had dangly bits everywhere and felt much hotter and more restrictive.

I also hate the way babies dangle by their crotch in the bjorns. They've been cleared of any accusations of hip problems but they're not actively good for hips like things like the ergo I don't think. For this reason alone I would never buy one.

IndomitabIe · 03/10/2015 08:14

I'm in the ergo gang, but not the 360 - I've never heard anything good said about it (not even from the company).

The classic ergo, however (and others like it) are amazing. I carried DS from 5 months to after he turned 4 this year. Dead comfy.

For a newborn I'd get a stretchy wrap.
