Hi folks. I'm so sorry I've disappeared recently. Jessica's sleep regressed a lot for a while where she was waking up every hour during the night, I was at my wits end! Has improved now mostly but I've been getting colds and sore throats one after the other so been a bit worse for wear! Have been lurking though Grin. Hope everyone is okay. I started weaning Jessica yesterday Shock Where is the time going?!

lilone1234 · 25/01/2015 17:37

Welcome back topmammy! I remember you being one of the first to pop - how old is Jessica now?

Thanks all for sharing how your bedtimes are going!

topmammy · 25/01/2015 18:14

Thanks lilone. Yep she popped out 3 weeks early Shock. She's just over a week away from 6 months now. Can't believe it! Smile

FATEdestiny · 25/01/2015 19:14

DD sat on my knee making grunting 'I'm doing a poo' noises. She is facing me. What is funny is that she will not give me eye contact, even if I move to look into her eyes. It's a game of you can't see me, so you won't know what I'm doing. Quite cute.

Hello top Smile

Nazly · 25/01/2015 21:01

Hi top x tell us about weaning, I sort of started but taking it super slow

Can anybody introduce any source that has different play ideas for babies? I know about the baby centre, apart from that.

FATEdestiny · 25/01/2015 21:23

Local parent and toddler groups?

Many local libraries do either Rhyme Rattle and Roll sessions and/or storytelling.

Is this the sort of thing you meant? Or at home play? Group baby sessions are mainly for the benefit of the parents rather than the baby at this age.

TeamEponine · 25/01/2015 21:29

Acorn, when you start weaning, which foods will you be avoiding? I've been told to wean avoiding dairy and soy, but I've read that babies with these allergies may also react badly to egg. So should I be avoiding that too?

Also, for those of you with thrashing babies, do they also still have a sensitive startle reflex? I realised today that DD does, and I was wondering if they are linked?

For the thrashing, I've discovered that holding both her hands, with her fingers wrapped around my thumb, calms her down quite effectively. Might be worth a try?

misog2000 · 25/01/2015 21:56

Ek first day back at work tomorrow! Ems is going to MIL who has only very recently stopped childminding so I'm confident she will have a nice day. I will miss her lots, but hopefully once I get back into my job a bit the days will fly, DH will pick her up at 3 so it's not that long that she's not with one of us really. At least I'm only in 3 days a week till end of March, hopefully that eases her into me going back FT.

FATEdestiny · 25/01/2015 22:03

OMG misog, I think you are the first on the thread to go back to work. That's such a big deal. But then it sounds like your MIL will do a fantastic job looking after Ems.

Good luck!

CumbrianExile · 25/01/2015 22:16

Fate - A does that not looking into my eyes thing quite a lot! Seems to be a game he plays with us now as when i finally lock eyes he giggles!
Hope your first day back at work goes well mis and that dd enjoys her time at your mil.

topmammy · 25/01/2015 22:47

Nazly - for weaning I'm basically following the Annabel Karmel weaning book. Jessica had baby rice first then today some carrot purèe, both I mixed with some of my expressed milk. Most of it falls out her mouth though at the moment. Some of the faces she pulls are priceless lol Grin

Good luck with your first day back at work misog. I'm not going back till July but I feel sick at the thought of it. I need to ask my boss about the possibility of part time as I don't think I'd cope well with full time tbh.

Zanashar · 25/01/2015 22:48

Welcome back Topmammy! And hope all goes well tomorrow for going back to work Misog.
DD started crying her poor lil eyes out about 45 mins after I left her tonight. When I went up to see her she was still crying but in her sleep.........has anyone else had this? Popped the dummy in and it stopped her crying but she still had a look of distress on her lil face.
She's also started chuckling/giggling for DH and my sister and is getting more and more vocal with each day which is just lovely to heAr.
Low noises seem to be something she's not keen on as we've found that any low pitched humming etc for too long gets her lower lip sticking out and trembling and her eyes widen like she's about to scream but as soon as we stop she's okay.
It's quite amazing how quickly she can go from almost crying to smiling widely. Her morning smiles are still the best! Grin

misog2000 · 25/01/2015 22:56

Thanks everyone, it's strange as I'm so looking forward to feeling a bit like myself again as I love my job and the people I work with, I will miss her dreadfully though.

Zanashar Emily whimpers in her sleep sometimes, I assume she is having a bad dream, goodness knows what about? Maybe all the bottles have run out, that would definitely upset her, she's a little piggy Smile

Zanashar · 25/01/2015 23:52

We've had whimpers in her sleep before, this was very loud full on crying but whilst still asleep (didn't even know that was possible!)

Zanashar · 25/01/2015 23:54

Oops! Didn't finish Nd clicked "post"
Wondered if it was a nightmare (well bad dream) but what about apart from bottles? She's does get very happy and excited when she sets eyes on her bottles now!
Just wNted to pick her up and give her a squeeze but that would have definitely woken her up. A mystery as to what must be going on in the little baby heads eh?

Acorncat · 26/01/2015 04:22

Team - still not sure what foods to wean with, I was also warned about potential egg allergy. They said to try it first in a cooked dish (she said pancakes Hmm ) before slowly working up to scrambled/boiled if no problems. Other than that, just the no dairy & soya till a year and avoid things that'll aggrivate reflux like tomatoes. I'll be seeing the paediatrician again and hopefully a dietician before weaning fully so will ask again and take notes this time . I did get given a booklet of recipes made by the dairy free formula people that had meals to feed from 6 months.

Acorncat · 26/01/2015 04:33

Also, I was given a bottle of anti-histamine for him incase he does have some sort of reaction when introducing new things.

holls2000 · 26/01/2015 06:30

Zanashar, b sometimes whimpers im his sleep. Tonight he sobbed but then lifted his legs up so it could have been wind....

TeamEponine · 26/01/2015 07:44

Misog - good luck today!

Zanashar - DD sometimes really scream out in her sleep without waking and I'm pretty sure it is a nightmare.

Acorn - I've also got a leaflet and I have an appointment when she is 9 months to start introducing the banned foods. I need to call the dietician when she has finished three weeks on the new formula, so I'll ask her about eggs and report back Grin

DD held her arms out for Daddy to pick her up and give her a cuddle this morning. So cute!!!

KitKat1985 · 26/01/2015 08:41

Good luck today Misog! xxx

Another bad night here. Up 5 times in the end last night to feed the child gannet Jessica, and very difficult to settle her at all after 5am. Am hoping she's having a bit of a growth spurt and she'll calm down again in a few days because if she's like this every night until she's fully weaned I'm going to go bonkers, (and she's still only 19 weeks so quite a while yet until we can even start the weaning process). Got her final jabs this afternoon I'm hoping they make her sleepy.

Honeybear30 · 26/01/2015 08:54

I had a sleepy LO after jabs kitkat. fingers crossed

FATEdestiny · 26/01/2015 13:22

KitKat - DD had two days of 4 hour daytime naps following her third jabs. Sounds nice in principle, but nightmare in reality because upon waking from ubernap, she then wouldn't sleep for ages and became an over-tired tyrant.

cookielove · 26/01/2015 17:23

The jabs made no difference to Elijah's sleep pattern grrr. Made him grouchy and clingy though so that was fun Hmm

We have started him on banana and porridge the faces he makes are adorable!

Took him to work and it has been confirmed we will be using my nursery which is expensive but the best place for him. It will be nice knowing he is just next door :)

KitKat1985 · 26/01/2015 17:25

Looks like you may well be right Fate. Been here two hours now with her asleep on my lap (I don't have the heart to move her). I need a wee!!!!
