Holls, well done

Why my posts are always so lengthy- I do apologies ladies

Blood test was OK; apart from the first nurse in children hospital failing to find a vein after searching for one with needle below his skin for some time while he was screaming; and then referring us to another building where a more skilled nurse took blood from his other arm! I managed not to cry but then my skin is quite thick by now(does this idiom exist in english? i am translating word by word from another language) after so many tests and needles... He forgot sooner than me; nurses are lovely and absolutely brilliant with babies

RedToothBrush · 13/01/2015 14:32

Hurrah Holls! Good news. I bet its a huge relief.

DS's thing today is feeling my face, sticking his hand in my mouth, his fingers up my nose, pulling my glasses off and just generally trying to rip my face off.

The funny one was when he pulled my glasses off quite deliberately. In his sleep.

To be thick skinned in English is to not be too sensitive and to be strong in the face of difficult situations/experiences

red too right. I nearly kissed my hv!!! b v into picking my nose, pulling my hair and nicking my glasses.
yesterday he laughed at something rather than laughing at me laughing. it was sweet.

interesting reaction to jabs - fast asleep on me. when he is a stroppy teenager I shall remember that there was a time when all he needed was milk and mummy cuddles!!!! Grin

Nazly · 13/01/2015 16:47

Thanks Red :) interesting how there are similar expressions in different languages

First taste tried - successfully - we started with Avocado ... I'd say I probably put 1/20 of an average size Avocado in front of him and prob more than half of it ended up on his face, his bib, his top, his dungarees, snug chair, snug table, and the plastic mat I had under the chair. (I knew it was going to be messy but still wasn't prepared for this much mess) As for his reaction, he went crazy for it; could not chew fast enough and would be really upset when dropping the thing...I think I am going to continue giving tiny tastes every day but still using clevemama thingie for now... I have to say buying it was not the smartest thing I've done though.

Cherish the time holls, cos it doesn't last long. My DDs response to all her jabs so far has been to sleep almost solidly for a few days. She's got the next ones on Monday - DH taking her 'cos I'm too chicken. No way I would manage taking a baby for a blood test Nazly, you are very brave.

In the name of cherishing the time they are babies, but in a rather different way, I took DD round the local out of town shopping area this afternoon - TK Max, Next, Laura Ashley etc. Had a lovely time shopping with her asleep in pushchair. In not very long it will be a massive chore to keeping her as a toddler entertained on a shopping trip. So It'll be once she's 3 and at nursery before I can have time to wander around shopping n the week.

FATEdestiny · 13/01/2015 18:37

A Mum I know from toddler group had a baby at the weekend - he was just less than 7lb. I saw the baby for the first time today - amazingly tiny!

My DD is about 3 1/2 months and is well over double the size of him.

It is a little bit sad to think how much DD has changed in just 15 weeks. She's no longer that tiny baby like this little newborn was.

lilone1234 · 13/01/2015 18:57

Molly was so good when we took her out shopping on Sunday (in car seat clipped to pram) - awake for a bit and asleep for a bit. We took her out straight after a feed and back in time for the next one. The last 2 days I have taken her out in her proper pram (lay down carrycot part) she has screamed the entire time, which is very unusual. She often gets annoyed with putting her coat on and getting in the pram but is fine once we're on the move, but not this week!

Both days I have gone after first feed and nap - closer to when next feed is due so i'm wondering if it's that timing she doesn't like or if perhaps she is outgrowing the carrycot, especially as she can't see anything laying down. I think she is too little for the actual sit up seat for the pram though. Very stressful and short outings both days though! Will try taking her more or less straight after second feed tomorrow and see if that makes a difference.

So the thought that this will get worse as you have mentioned FATE, fills me with dread!

Nazly I think it is disgraceful that a nurse made a failed attempt to take blood from your baby and then sent you somewhere else to do it! It's bad enough when they just stab around with an adult to take blood, but doing it with a baby just is not good enough! You are very brave to have dealt with it. Glad his first taste of food went well, keep us updated!

holls Glad HV went well!

Thought I would share a picture of Molly on her first Christmas! I would love to see others' first Christmas pics if people want to share!

I thought that was a saucepan on Molly's head at first! Very cute. I have some cutie pics of Felicity in an adults santa hat, but they are not saved on this laptop. Will see if I can remember how to retrieve the from the home network later.

My eldest DD used to dislike lying flat in the pram insert on our travel system. She quickly moved into the pushchair bit, but reclined down. Whereas youngest DD is loving the pram insert.

I'll carry on using it as long as possible just because when I pack the pram insert away in the loft, it is another chapter in her life closed and finished.

I'm very into cherishing all aspects of the baby months. She is my last, so I am indulging myself. Previously I would be too quick to wish away time and hanker after the next stage in their life. This time I will be slowing down and enjoying the ride.

lil - I had to move B into the pushchair bit of his pram. bought one of those cocoon sleeping bag things for it so it's dead easy - doesn't need a pram suit as well so pop in pushchair and zip up and go. he generally falls asleep but when he does wake up he has a good old nosy. we tend to walk into town each morning to buy stuff for supper that day. unless it is chucking it down when we drive and dash.

do any supermarkets that you know of do trolleys that you can stick car seat on?

Zanashar · 13/01/2015 21:21

Holls, I've found Tesco & Sainsburys both have trolleys that you can stick the car seat onto but I think it tends to be the larger stores (possibly ) for both and there aren't many of them available, but watch the Tesco ones @ a big store - I once had a trolley that had wheels that didn't lock onto the travelator and no sign on it to say to not to use on travelator!!!
My local Asda don't seem to have any of these trolleys (not impressed)
|'ve been using a zip up footmuff thingy for DD and it does the job of keeping her nice and toasty particularly well (maybe too well as she seems to hate being too warm!)
All the Christmas babies are sooooooooo cute!
Here's Z on the day @her grannies ( we flew over to Belfast two days before and completely surprised her when I walked in with DH and DD, and stayed with her until the 29th)
The hand knitted booties were a present from one of her great aunts and will prob still fit for next Xmas (they are huuuuge!)

Aargh does anyone else's baby keeping peeing in the bath?! Every blinking time, after he's been in for only a few minutes at least it's not poo - hope it doesn't do him any harm!

FATEdestiny · 13/01/2015 21:31

All of the supermarkets around us do trollies you can attach a Group 0 carseat to, it must be a regional thing. We have Asda, Tesco, Sainsburys and Morrisons around us and I know they all do.

I am too short for that sort of trolley so never use them. The tray bit where you strap your carseat sits on top of the trolley. If I've got a car seat on there I can't see over it!

I got the footmuff for the pushchair out of the loft only the other week thinking she's be in the pushchair soon. That was when it hit me that once I stop using the pram, it'll never be used again.

Honeybear30 · 13/01/2015 21:32

I've had to move to the proper pushchair seat to as the DS didnt like not being able to see in the pram. I had a 'baby nest' for the pushchair but he's outgrown that to, I had to call it a day when I had to wedge him in lol. I do recline the seat though and I've bought the footmuff so he looks pretty cosy in there. The hv here doesn't measure length but I'd be really interested to know what centile DS is on as he just seems so big. We're on 98th for weight. Many people comment on how he looks easily six months when in fact he's only four.

FATEdestiny · 13/01/2015 21:38

Acorn - Not too much in the way of wees in the bath from DD yet. Her 5 year old brother though... Hmm

I've not had baby poo in the bath before. Was just thinking that at least poo stays in one piece and floats, so can be fished out more easily . But baby poo is far more runny. Not had the pleasure...

I have had to deal with vomit in the bath though. Vomit in the bath is the work of the devil.

holls2000 · 13/01/2015 22:06

poo? in the bath? eeeeek.
my worse so far was changing nappy and he was still pooing. traumatic.

FATEdestiny · 13/01/2015 22:11

Poo in a swimming pool is not all that uncommon.

Nazly · 13/01/2015 23:16

Acron how do you know? I think ds may do that too, but as it has no colour I never know.
To be honest I would not worry at all about wee, have you heard that Urine is sterile? There are even sayings that if you were in a critical condition with no drinking water and you could die of dehydration it is safe to drink your urine!!! Sorry all :)

Now recently there are some new research saying urine may not be sterile after all, but when You look at it it is more about sicknesses and bacterias coming from an unwell person or somebody who has been unwell before- I don't think baby's wee is anything to worry about...

Is this really pathetic? : ds's poo has a light sweet smell as he only has milk, I am not looking forward to that being changed to more adult like poo :( don't get me wrong, not because I have to change him, just because to me it is a big stage of babyhood gone then...

Babies smell wonderful, but I guess Soon his natural smell will not be as nice as now either Sad

FATEdestiny · 13/01/2015 23:39

if you were in a critical condition with no drinking water and you could die of dehydration it is safe to drink your urine

I can't remember what I was watching on TV, but I saw something (probably Bear Grills) about survival and apparently if stranded with no water and you can collect your urine, the best way to rehydrate is... urm... urm.... well, to use a tube and pour the urine up your bum.

Apparently your body can absorb the water needed that way, but without needing to digest anything nasty. You can do the same with sea water, which wouldn't hydrate of drank.

Lovely conversation... Shock

FATEdestiny · 13/01/2015 23:43

Milk-only is a massively significant stage of babyhood that will never come back. Makes me feel all rose tinted and nostalgic.

FATEdestiny · 14/01/2015 08:43

I'm jealous of your snow Ella! Is there lots? We just have frost this morning. DH and children just come back to drop bikes off, apparently it is too slippy out there to go to school on their bikes so they are walking instead.

Sorry about M's meltdown, your DH must have felt terrible about it. Glad she calmed down.

holls2000 · 14/01/2015 08:52

We have snow here too. Was meant to be going into work, but not sure now.

V upset today. Scandal was free on Amazon prime and today I wake up AND ITS NOT FREE ANYMORE. have bought DVDs. Addicted? Me?
