I do purees first, than lumpy/mashed & very finely chooped food - work way towards chunky & finger foods.

icklekid · 13/01/2015 05:09

auntie we do both - give finger food (soft carrot and potato are good) and puree /yoghurt so I know he is taking some food in

moresnow lots of sympathy we were up every 20mins for an hour before I gave up and co slept - I was so tired that I'm not actually sure if the last time he woke had been 20mins or 1h 20mins but I'm guessing 20mins!

auntie broccoli is so fun to watch them eat. I find finger food like carrot, broccoli and courgette in the fridge useful for teething as well to suck on the cold

AuntieMaggie · 14/01/2015 06:32

moresnow ds always has cold hands and wouldn't keep his arms under a duvet/blanket anyway so the sleeping bag having no arms doesn't bother me. was your ds wearing anything different the night he slept better? have you actually measured the temperature in the room?

Snow Riding it out might be the only answer. Hope it's a short ride.

Made DD2 sob today by trying to feed her apple. I think it will be a long time before we wean! Might have to do more BLW this time around.

Moved her crib into her sister's room today. Hopefully this will help us both get more sleep. She's waking too many times in the night at the moment.

In positives, she's now sure that she can roll over both ways so she's doing that more often. It's very cute.

VIPmarya212 · 15/01/2015 08:53

Hugs to all of you, you're all doing great!! ????????

Lol Kiwi they do a lot of cute things at this age don't they?
Mine stretches his legs back until they reach his mouth, then nibbles his foot haha x_x

GrouchyKiwi · 15/01/2015 09:33

I am really struggling with lack of sleep. Since DD2 had bronchiolitis her sleep has been poor. She wakes frequently. And DD1 has been waking more often too. She basically sleeps through but will cry if her Manky Dog falls out of bed.

So we moved DD2 into DD1's room yesterday to try to sort the sleep issues. She's not 6 months yet so I expect her to wake at once between 11pm and 7am for a feed. She has, however, been waking two or three times. As far as that goes, I think the move will work. I fed her at midnight (she slept a few hours before that, which is unusual, so I'm hoping we'll get our evenings back sometime soon) and again just before 4am,so that was good. And she slept after that through till 7am. It's the first time in weeks that she's slept a 3 hour block after her early morning feed.

But she woke probably 6 times between midnight and 4am. Settled with her dummy mostly, though I did end up putting one of my tops in with her at 2am or so.

I think what I'm really rambling about is that this might work and I'll get more sleep. But only if DD1 doesn't wake through the night or get up at 6am instead of her usual 7.30pm.

Will have to get DH to do any extra night wake ups with the baby this weekend because I can't remember the last time I got a total of 6 hours sleep. I am beyond exhausted.

Becky2208 · 15/01/2015 10:12

Oh Kiwi it sucks doesn't it? Much Brew needed! DS also isn't the best with sleep, he was waking every 2 hours until we put him in his own room on Monday night, when he started doing stretches of 4 - 6 hours. I also got DH to agree that he would deal with any wake ups before midnight, as DS is fed around 10 so isn't likely to be hungry. So far this seems to be working, DH can settle him quite quickly, and we're all getting a bit more sleep. I hope it works for you and you get more sleep - I'm struggling enough with one, I have no idea how you manage with two DC!

GrouchyKiwi · 15/01/2015 13:33

Thanks for the coffee. Grin I'm drinking so much of it these days. Poor old second children; I was so careful with everything with DD1, only had one coffee per day, and one cup of tea. Feel like I'm mainlining caffeine with DD2!

Your system sounds like a good idea. I need to get better at going to bed earlier myself, though the baby seems to know when I'm going and almost always wakes up when I do. Getting DH to do pre-midnight wake ups might fix that, and he'd still get enough sleep.

Becky2208 · 15/01/2015 15:20

Kiwi it seems to work for us - DH still gets at least 6 and a half hours straight sleep, usually more, and I can get at least a few hours. I don't know if it'll work when I go back to work, but I definitely feel more human after a few days of more sleep!

ZingTheGreat · 15/01/2015 16:16

HV been round this morning - Elijah's 72 cm long (grown 2 cms in 4 weeks!) so no wonder only 6-9 or 6-12 m clothes fit him now!
he is officially 6m on Saturday - I can not believe he was born half a year ago!

he is getting very good at rolling from back to tummy and started manoeuvring about on the floor - I never find him in the same spot as I left him! watch out, he is on the move!

his weight is now back on just under the 50th centile and needs no further weighing until he's 1. (7.7kg)

starting him on apple/carrots/pear this coming week which means I need to by a new handheld mixer.
all very exciting (even 7th time roundSmile )

hope you are all doing well, no time to read back unfortunately.
x

kiwi so much sympathy and have more Brew as I'm also in need. Every 20mins for hours last few nights I eventually give up and co sleep but then I end up waking every time he stirs...we also have agreed that dh does one night fri/sat and last weekend was amazing even though I woke knowing I didn't have to get up was brilliant and I was so tired I got back to sleep very quickly! I tried pre midnight but dh gives up and he then gets me up anyway!

zing that's interesting as hv don't measure length here after birth and then when they can stand... I'm intrigued though so may measure him. We're just outgrowing 3-6month but some 6-9month is still huge!

AuntieMaggie · 15/01/2015 19:34

They haven't measured ds since his 6 week check. He's been able to roll over for a while now but usually doesn't bother as he didn't like it on his front and if I put him on his front he would roll straight onto his back. However the past week he keeps going onto his front and is happy for a bit bit then starts getting grumpy bit doesn't roll back over even though he can! When he's on his front he's trying to get on his feet (when he's not trying to eat the rug!)

I'm doing a mix of puree/mashed veg and sticks - he loves sprouts, carrot, courgette, apple and blueberries. It's funny to watch how quickly he gets through the soft stuff and how happy he is chewing on the sticks. He is so bloody cute atm. He's started getting really excited in the bath when you splash him.

icklekid · 17/01/2015 04:01

Ladies I feel so stupid! Last few weeks ds sleep has been horrendous - waking at midnight up every 20mins after being easy to settle and we were cosleeping every night in the end because it meant we actually got sleep! Thu night I put an extra blanket on when he woke and he slept until 4.30 for feed then back to sleep. Right now hes slept right through as put the blanket on when we went to bed. I feel such an idiot - so much sleep depravation and all because my baby was cold! I woke 30mins ago and tip toed in to see if all was ok and yes hes fine still snoring away! I'm sure an idiot! Sad

AuntieMaggie · 17/01/2015 11:19

aww ickle don't feel bad it may be coincidence - you know what our babies are like!

GrouchyKiwi · 17/01/2015 11:27

At least you've found something that works? Hope you managed to sleep well too and are feeling better.

icklekid · 18/01/2015 06:47

Thanks kiwi and auntie I know I should just be greatful for some sleep so will focus on that!

ickle

you are not an idiot! but I think you figured it out how to make him sleep longer, so congrats!Smile Thanks

could be that he is warmer now, but some babies (and children & adults, like me) prefer the extra weight a thicker duvet or additional blanket provides.
it seems to be the case and long may it last!Wink

Elijah is exactly 6 months old today. He's had banana and pear so far( loved both), carrot's on the menu tomorrow.

I enjoy him so much, he can be a little grizzly bear when tired, but otherwise he's such a happy little boy! so so sweet, I love him so much!Smile

VIPmarya212 · 19/01/2015 05:03

Awwww Ickle atleast you figured it out!
Much sympathy and hugs for all the mums not getting enough, that is just the worst! I know what that feels like!

My DS getting better at sleep. I put him into a bedtime routine, shower, feed of solids so that he can stay full for longer, massage sometimes. Getting a decent amount of sleep atleast now. But i still miss the time that he would sleep all through the night :( (where did my baby go? lol) It's still annoying to have ur sleep broken in the middle of the night! But oh well, he's generally a good baby. And when he smiles and giggles all is forgotton i guess lol.

As well as buying baby food I've been trying to make some at home as well, seems like a more healthier option. What do you all make/feed your DSs/DDs? Please pass some "recipes"

My DS seems to be showing signs of teething for the past 1 month or more but still no tooth (he's 6 months now). Any teeth arrived yet for you ladies?

VIPmarya212 · 19/01/2015 05:07

They're getting quite playful at this age aren't they? Lol. I guess that's kind of like our reward for everything

icklekid · 19/01/2015 07:05

vip we had 2 at 4 months no more yet but lots of dribble /red cheeks/knawing on anything and everything!

Well ds got the worst cold yet last night and literally was screaming because he couldn't breath with dummy in and couldn't settle without it Sad at 9.30 I gave up and we coslept. Except without much of the sleeping bit. I don't think we got a solid hour at any point. Drinking milk was a nightmare this morning and too tired for porridge yet can't settle to get back to sleep. I predict a long day. ..

zing I think you might be right about the weight thing...
