Infected csection wound

I had my DS1 almost 3 weeks ago via emerg c section. Some swabs were taken from the wound about 5 days after he was born and then again 2 days later. They took ages getting back to me with the results, every midwife I saw said the wound looked fine, but had a call from the dr a week ago today so a week after the first swab was taken! to say that both swabs showed an infection, so was prescribed I think it's fluctocillin or something. Not happy that it had been left that long. So Started taking that Wednesday last week,4x a day and just finsished last tablet this evening but the wound is still sore, and looks like pus with a bit of blood is oozing out from the middle. I was discharged from the midwifes over a week ago, so just wondering whether the dr will give me another course of antibiotics? I'm breast feeding so really don't want anything else as don't want it to effect my baby :( I feel ok in myself, just worried I may have over done things? Has anyone else had two infections from c sections that can advise me, TIA Smile

Congrats on birth of your baby.
If wound is still sore and weeping, it is important that you go back to doctors, as intractable infections can get worse and cause more problems.
Flucloxacillin is passed out in breast milk, but is safe and used in infants. Effects can be gut effects, but if your LO didn't gave them before they are likely to be ok, however a worsening infection could have more of an effect.
Swabs can take time to culture which may have caused the delay, but if I were you I would start ringing for results after a couple of days if they repeat the swab.
Hoping you feel better soon xxx

Yes, I had loads of issues including infections. Definitely go to gp do not delay.

Congrats!

Get back to your hospital ASAP.
In the meantime make a solution of salty hot water (as hot as you can stand) and bathe your wound as often as you can.
Dry with a hair drier. If you must, wear granny pants to stop the overhang rub against the wound.
Best to let the wound out in the air as much as possible.

Put tea tree oil on a maternity pad and lay it flat across the wound when you put on your granny knickers to go out. This will keep the wound pressed flat and absorb any guck.

Ask should you wash the wound in hibiscrub?

Ring for results is good advice from cuppachaplz.
Congrats again.
