Perilously close to filling the old thread suddenly!

Oh, hold on.... Oh. He's using the fork as a telephone....Confused

StormyBrid · 27/08/2014 17:40

She says it sounds like an abscess, if so will need antibiotics, take to dentist asap.

Fartypants uses spoons; we just fed her with them until she nicked the spoon and started doing it herself, so no handy hints from me, I'm afraid.

Albadross · 27/08/2014 18:48

I have a feeling that when he tore his mouth it pulled the gum away from the back of his teeth... Urge... So definitely a dentist? How on earth will I get him to let them go near his mouth?

yummychocolate · 27/08/2014 18:51

Hi all and a special welcome back hi to Leni.

Had a busy busy few days. Had guests over the long weekend, work and arranging playdates.

You have guessed it ds is ill again. Just sniffles and a cough this time and nursery do not seem to be bothered.phew!

I think we watch tv too much too but oh well. I do other things too but its soo helpful to have it on when i am busy sorting dinner on. I would rather him watch tv than him get in the way of me cooking.

We love iggle piggle. Ds says fallen when iggle piggle falls down at the end and laughs. I hate the show myself. I don't get the hype.

My favourite is topsy and tim and chuggington.

Sorry this is a me me post but I can't remember what everyone said.

something i may have done a swap. Ds slept til 7.45am! Shame I had to be up early for work. Im sure the 6am starts will happen tomorrow when I can have a lie in.
I hope you have recovered from the pantry moment. Hugs to you.

StormyBrid · 27/08/2014 18:53

No idea! The dentist will probably have some experience of persuading recalcitrant children to open wide. And they have those little mirrors on an angled stick so you won't need to hold him upside down. Although thinking about it, holding upside down is the only way to see that part of Fartypants's mouth, and it's easy - she likes being upside down so she grins.

Albadross · 27/08/2014 18:53

It is less big than it was though too and he's otherwise tip top as usual. I put some dentinox on it with a toothbrush (no idea if that was a good idea) but it gave me time to get a good look. Made sure there was no food in there anyway.

Something, what is it with dishwashers that's so fascinating? Gets right on my nerves too.

somethingbeginningwith · 28/08/2014 08:30

Gah, I just wrote a huge post and it disappeared.

Essentially...

Dishwashers house knives and glass so are clearly the most fun the world Hmm

By antler, I didn't mean that my pup is actually a reindeer, it's a chew, like a bone but more antler-y.

eco do Run or Dye with the Plonkster and I.

yummy I demand a swap back! 4:45am is not, and never has been, morning!! (excellent news on your sleeping boy though)

StormyBrid · 28/08/2014 08:34

My turn for the super sleeping toddler today - I woke up naturally at 8.25, haven't heard a peep from her!

Plonkysaurus · 28/08/2014 08:56

We were disturbed earlier than usual. By that I mean 2am. In with us he came, and was most perplexed by my desire to lay back down and go to sleep immediately. He's gotten far too accustomed to middle of the night milk, and I have no idea if I should try to be tough and train him out of it. Quite tempted to go with the flow at the minute, as, for once, we're all getting enough sleep.

Dishwashers are like magnets to tiny people.

Yummy runny noses and coughs at nursery are par for the course, especially as it's the perfect temperature for germs right now. How long's he been going to nursery now?

I think I have a being-too-busy problem. I stupidly took my own advice and sat and wrote my goals for the short-medium future down. Silly ambitions, they're terrifying when they're all written down!

  1. buy house.
  2. make photo business successful.
  3. try for baby number 2 once in new house with successful photo business.
StormyBrid · 28/08/2014 09:00

I'm not surprised they're scary ambitions, Plonk, they're all rather big! Mine are:
Get a job
Get a bigger house
Drop another sprog.
Also fairly major!

Re middle of the night milk, if you're all getting enough sleep then I wouldn't be overly fussed about cutting it out. He'll probably do so himself sooner or later.

Plonkysaurus · 28/08/2014 09:09

I figured that as he's practically running now he must need the calories. He always seems to drain a good 7 flozzes in the middle of the night but otherwise his sleep is becoming ok.

These tiddlers have a way of throwing your life into relief, don't they? At the time we decided to go for it and create the Toddlesaurus I was torn. It was either start a family or start taking my job seriously - and I didn't have the desire to find an alternate career. Having opted for the family scenario I now know that I definitely wouldn't have been happy with the job I was working towards, but that I am also incapable of staying home and all that entails. The age gap we're looking at is getting bigger and bigger - I want my own business to turn a profit, however small, before we start trying.

Gerrythetootallgiraffeswife · 28/08/2014 16:29

Touching base after far too long absent. I will endeavour to return with actual conversation before you all disappear again! And welcome back leni!

OP posts:
Albadross · 28/08/2014 19:00

Hi Gerry!

I must be the only one not even remotely coming round to the idea of another sprog then Shock Maybe it's my up and down health, but I still really struggle with just one and working etc.

Since mat leave ended I've really invested myself in my plan B career, so maybe I'm just loathe to let that go when it's all starting to progress.

yummychocolate · 28/08/2014 19:40

plonky ds is at week 5 at nursery and we now have no crying when I drop him off. Yay. He smiles and puts his arms out to be collected by his key worker. Ds seems to be popular with the older children as they call to play with him when I drop him off. (They all have breakfast together then the babies go upstairs to their own room). Shamefully ds is still drinking milk at night so you are not alone. I think you should carry on giving it especially as he seems to be drinking quite a bit.

My main aim is to buy a house followed by baby 2 then followed by changing my job. However, who knows when or if at all this would be achieved.

leni how is ds' mouth today? I have mixed feelings of having baby 2. Nights when ds wakes up hourly like last night kills me and I can't imagine looking after 2 children 3 including dh plus working. It is tough.

something sorry ds' lie in was a one off. He is back to 6am start. 4.45am is shocking. Hope you get your sleep loving ds back tonight.

I have a question about nappies. What do you use and how long do they last overnight? Ds is wetting through by 5.30/6am. I change his nappy between 8/9pm before bed and occasionally I change him overnight if he is full. Drinking overnight seems to make him wee more. We use pampers babydry

yummychocolate · 28/08/2014 19:41

gerry you enjoying the last week of school holidays? How do you feel about going back full time?

StormyBrid · 28/08/2014 20:41

yummy, we're on pampers active fit, and they last overnight no trouble. One goes on after bathtime about half six, sevenish. Assuming no night poos, it's not changed until 7am at the earliest, usually closer to eight. Never have any wee leaks, though they're definitely fuller after extra night milk. I'd suggest trying either a different brand or the next size up - what size is he in now?

There's a programme on with a baby who's missing most of his brain, yet he can see, hear, and communicate. There are no words for my awe. The brain really is an incredible thing.

Anypants · 29/08/2014 08:22

My turn - my day has begun with a 5. Brew Brew Brew

somethingbeginningwith · 29/08/2014 08:45

Oh no, any I think I must have swapped with you. I had to wake him up at 7:20 this morning. Sorry Blush Brew It was lovely though, to actually wake up when it was light, take the dog out, shower, get dressed, and get bags packed all without a limpet. Tomorrow, we'll probably be back to pre-5am.

Tomorrow...ahh!! Tomorrow is the mudderella run. If you don't hear from me or plonk again, assume that we're stuck in a mud pile and send Wine

We use Asda nappies - action fit, size 4+. He started leaking overnight when we used Tesco ones. BIL also bought size 4 Asda ones despite me asking for 4+ so we used them in the day and 4+ at night, and haven't really had any problems so far. He stays in them all night until about 7am (or earlier if he wakes up earlier). I started thinking he might need a bigger size but...surely not? He's so SMALL.

We're not ready for another sprog just yet but our bigger age gap is starting to shrink. Thinking we will start trying December 2015. The thing is, I'd like to start on a career but I don't know what to do with my life Confused

My near-future life plan is -
Get a better job
Do the MA
Get engaged
Get married
Have baby

Not necessarily in that order. Although, DP...I'd like to have a ring on my finger soon-ish. Ta Grin

yummychocolate · 29/08/2014 09:07

Oh dear any. Try to fit in a nap if you can.

We are in size 5 nappies. 4+ means his bum cheeks come out easily but 5 seems baggy.lol. we tried aldi ones but he leaked in those by midnight.

I have a mountain of washing to go through today. Anyone want to swap with me?

cantturn how are you all, if you are still lurking?

shattered where are you hiding?

yummychocolate · 29/08/2014 09:08

something have you been dropping hints about getting married?

StormyBrid · 29/08/2014 09:11

I've given up on a proper career. They mostly seem to be designed for men people who can work every hour god sends. Bugger that. A decent balance is more important to me, ideally never working more than four days a week, because I don't want to hit seventy and realise I've wasted most of my life working instead of living. I'd probably think differently if I had the option of a well paid career in something I enjoyed though! Potential careers I would like:
Professional tea taster (this is a legit thing, I saw it advertised once)
Bed tester
Gold farmer (but you have to be Chinese for that, I think)
Running out of ideas now. Could I have a career in winning the lottery? Start off with small wins and get promoted to bigger wins, culminating in the Euro Millions? That would be an ace job.

somethingbeginningwith · 29/08/2014 09:17

yummy only for about ten years Grin

stormy Tetley are advertising for a tea taster if you're willing to relocate to Middlesex? I'm considering it!

StormyBrid · 29/08/2014 09:32

Ah, something, mornings like that are bliss! Getting to sort yourself out before anyone starts making demands. It's my favourite thing about Shirebrook expeditions.

Bugger Middlesex though. It's bad enough being four hundred miles away from my sister, I'm not moving away from the rest of my family too.

yummy I'd advise switching from babydry to active fit and see if that helps. Other than that I'm out of ideas!

something have you considered proposing yourself?

somethingbeginningwith · 29/08/2014 10:05

I would say I've considered it, but I haven't. I do know that it is an option, however. It's just that, I don't want to propose, and I know that he eventually does. We have spoken about it, it will happen, we just want to make sure we're financially secure enough to afford to do it, as we don't want a long engagement. He did hint that it'd be before Christmas this year, so we'll see. I think after nearly ten years together, I kinda would prefer my man down on one knee than having to get down on one myself Wink

Albadross · 29/08/2014 12:00

Oh dear, we've been engaged since Christmas 2010!

5am starts here most of the week. And DS has no spots in his mouth now, just lots on his face, so he looks a bit disgusting.

He was absolutely beside himself yesterday when I went to collect him from nursery, and wouldn't even go to daddy! They said he'd been weird and sensitive all day and not his usual bubbly self. No idea. Not that I'm complaining as I felt yuck and needed the attention frankly.

Our mortgage (we're buying the remaining half of our flat) is about to go through so we've done that bit now, albeit only because OH did win the lottery (did I tell you about that?!), but considering the values in May said £335 (we bought 50% at £285) and then the values this month said £400+ Shock I'm pretty sure we've done the right thing buying it instead of getting married...

I do walk past a gorgeous wedding dress shop in Canary Wharf every day though and feel a little pang of wanting to actually do it before I'm completely grey. And I'm thin again now so it would be a good time.
