Old thread.

Keep on rambling, ladies, we have a whole new thread to fill!

brilliant tips thank you. stuff on crumpets betty, shredded wheat any and macaroni cheese yummy, stolen these ideas. we're not keen on fish either plonky...but they say to offer 14 (!) times before it's a definite no. stormy does she go for yoghurt? the weaning books say it's still very much exploration at this stage so I guess you let ministormy roll with refusal for now and keep offering. I think if memory serves she's better on the milk guzzling front these days generally? she's obviously getting what she needs from that.

house of three colds tonight. lovely snoring through monitor. Smile

somethingbeginningwith · 08/11/2013 09:44

eco apparently periods are quite heavy and painful for the first 6 months or so after having the copper coil in, hopefully yours aren't too bad. The CM trial went well, he was doted on by all the other children who read him stories and followed him around. I think he'll be absolutely fine there. And I got to hoover!

yummy chocolate would be so amazing if it weren't for this healthy eating thing that me and DP are on. He's joined this weight loss challenge at work where everyone pays £10 to enter and the person who loses most percentage of body weight gets all the money at the end. About 15 people are in so he better bloody win. And he's asked me to do it with him for support. Gah. Also, DM said to me yesterday "hmm, I can see you have put weight on...". Yeah, cheers. So, no chocolate for me Sad

Food wise here, we've had to resort to finger foods like pasta, toast, etc as DS won't let us feed him. We try to use lots of different sauces, and he also loves jacket potato and tuna. We have a fish fan here!

Thinking we may have to get some more musical toys as DS was playing DM's piano yesterday and he absolutely loved it. He seems to want to be a little musician.

Hope all poorly people are feeling unpoorly.

StormyBrid · 08/11/2013 20:31

Oh aye, milk's not bad these days. Four times eight flozzes offered and she always drinks at least seven. In the end for tea we had peanut butter on toast and some sticks of mild cheddar. We've tried her on extra mature cheddar, and her face was pretty comical, but she didn't actually eat any of it, so mild it is.

Sleep sucks a bit at the moment though. She woke up at 5.22 (I'd been awake since 4.30) and just lay there, half asleep, making zombie moans until I gave up and fed her at half six. Whereupon she slept until I woke her at half eight. Hmm.

And I can't even hit post - power cut!

...

And at last it's back, after nine hours of no electric. My feet are like ice cubes.

OP posts:
Plonkysaurus · 08/11/2013 21:48

Something the thing about having a musical ds is you can legitimately buy a piano. And the thing about a piano is it's a great hiding place for all your essentials

Eco more snoring tonight or are you feeling better?

Stormy, warmed up yet? She'll get there with food, you've another four month before needing to ditch the milk.

We have a tooth. I've been about ready to sit ds in the cot and lock myself in another room lately. Illness, teething and wonder week. I finally had a lightbulb moment and opted for bonjela, only to find a sharp little nugget in his gum. Have also been hoiking my enormous judgeypants today over acquaintances behaviour towards newborn, ignoring the advice of mws in favour of her mum and grandmas homespun stories of childrearing.

Can't believe how quiet this threads gone

Anypants · 08/11/2013 23:33

Yup, tis a quiet one today. I sprained my ankle last night as I ventured out after DD had gone to bed. That'll teach me for leaving her. And I thought i'd got away with a really easy WW until today... screaming whilst we walked, screaming when being held, screaming if I put her on the floor. I did indeed put her in the cot and retreated to another room at one point but it didn't really help. She's asleep now but I hope tomorrow is more 'normal'. Although, it's my nephew's 4th birthday party at 3pm (weird time, no?) so she'll be due a nap when we get there. God, I hope she puts on her public persona so everyone thinks she's lovely and not the devil child Hmm

Anypants · 08/11/2013 23:35

Plonky - what little gems have the mum and grandma offered?

Gerrythetootallgiraffeswife · 09/11/2013 00:10

Oh god. Tonight I went OUT. I have done this once or twice in the last 8 months, but it has mainly been out for naice meal with DH, or to friends house for grown up dinner. Tonight my best friend and I had a nice dinner, then went to a town centre pub/bar... I used to be more than happy to push my way to the bar, look wearily at young'ens and feel superior. Tonight I wanted a badge saying 'I know I'm fat with snot on my shoulder but I'M A MUM NOW SO IT'S OK. But I didn't have a badge. So I drank some gin. That didn't make it better, so I came home. Gah. I feel old.

Plonkysaurus · 09/11/2013 07:41

Any so far the best gems have been that breast milk isn't enough for your baby so you're better off giving formula - and that way you know how much they're getting. And give the baby water or she'll become dehydrated Hmm.
Hope your ankle fixes itself soon. This wonder week is horrible isn't it!

Gerry may I raise my early morning gin in solidarity? The first one of the days always the best. How's the healthy eating going? Are you murderous or energised?

Worse if you're out there let us know you're not crying in your pantry. Massive hugs if you are!

Gerrythetootallgiraffeswife · 09/11/2013 08:03

I was starting to feel very energised (and losing weight at a dramatic rate-I'm assured that after these two weeks of crazy dietness that will slow because I'm concerned about both sustainability and sagginess). I fear I may have ruined it last night by stupidly choosing pasta and then the gin and the wine. Today it's going to be a real struggle not to have a carb fest but I'm not going to.

In other news- we dtd! The gin helped, but it was fab. Then dd didn't wake up til 7.40. Apart from the hangover, I'm one happy mummy this morning

pudtat · 09/11/2013 08:08

Bleugh! I went out to friends for wine last night. Got in midnight and DS woke up at 6:30. There was a time when that would've seemed like plenty of sleep (and maybe still would to Betty !) but it's not enough for me Hmm.

pudtat · 09/11/2013 08:09

Cross post - well done GerryGrin

StormyBrid · 09/11/2013 12:16

Gerry good job on making it through the first two weeks! You will see a dramatic loss at first just as your body adjusts - you haven't been eating crap so you lose a lot of bloat and water weight, and you haven't been eating lots of heavy food so there's less in your gut weighing you down now. Pasta and booze once won't ruin it though (so long as it's once every now and then not once every day). Have you been weighing or measuring yourself? I'd be interested (and jealous) to see some numbers.

And I'll join you in the yayness of having dtd last night. Had no idea the man had come home in such an amorous mood, and fortunately he was quite happy for me to just lie back in a tired heap and enjoy. I love lazy sex. Although energetic sex is probably better for weight loss. Speaking of which, myfitnesspal doesn't have sex listed as an exercise. I am appalled.

Plonky do we have to ditch the milk entirely the moment they turn one? Cos I really can't see DD eating enough solid food to cope with that.

OP posts:
ecofreckle · 09/11/2013 15:01

Oh I see, it was quiet on here because you were all too busy having a life and having sex Grin
Great work you vixens. Go minisomething on cm success too. Plonky your boy is delicious all wrapped up today on Facebook. More photos of minis!
Am in bed with bad head after a stompy walk with dh and Eco baby who was thankfully asleep and unaware of the grump going down. I have left them to it. SUspect they'll need my boobs soon but other than that I predict football on radio and lots of rough housing. (Is that the term?). MEanwhile I'll watch a documentary on BBC4 about something very high brow or don't tell the bride

Gerrythetootallgiraffeswife · 09/11/2013 16:00

Stormy- numbers.... So far I have lost 8lb, that's one week of being careful whilst waiting for my regime from my bro, then 5 days so far of crazy carb-free-ness during which I have been losing 1lb a day. 9 more days of the craziness so would imagine by the end I'll be at least a stone down, and then I expect things will slow down to approx 1.5-2 lb a week. That's assuming I stay away from the pasta. Which I love a little too much!

Milk definitely not dropped at 1. It varies, but they should still have milk for a while. Not sure how much though. My friend's 21 month old has a morning and evening bottle, but she's not great at eating. At one you can move on to full fat cows milk. Can't wait for that and to get rid of bloody formula!!

Plonkysaurus · 09/11/2013 22:00

Stormy yes I meant formula can be dropped at one. At least, you don't need to buy first milk, but blue lid cows milk is ok. Also cannot wait for this. Today ds has plodded on through about 14 oz of formula, so he's slowly but surely getting back to full health. I can't believe how skinny he is now, he's a total beanpole and has a neck.

gerry 8lbs is excellent! You've inspired me. I stepped on the scales today and still have a stone and a half to go, but I'm there dieting with you.

Eco I don't have a life! let alone a sex life at the moment, but I've taken a leaf out of your book and ordered a new outdoorsy coat and have been looking at littlelife carriers. Hope you're in a better mood now, a good stomp has a powerful effect.

Ladies it is 10pm on a Saturday and I'm off to clean the kitchen and retire to bed. Rock on.

StormyBrid · 10/11/2013 09:10

8lbs! Nice one, Gerry! Are you weighing every day? I find it useful to do so because that way you get a feel for the natural fluctuations of your weight. Bear in mind also that eating something verboten can make the scales go up in a scary fashion, but it's not gaining fat. As I saw today and yesterday - I'm a pound heavier than yesterday, but I only ate around 1300 calories yesterday so it's definitely not a pound of fat gained. It's just the effect of eating a cookie and a muffin (damn the man for buying them).

Yes, I can see DD still having two bottles a day at 21 months too. Switching to cow's milk will be a hell of a saving too, looking forward to that.

Good morning this morning - DD woke up at 6.22 and I thought sod it and fed her. She downed the whole bottle and went back to sleep until 8.45. Which means we can get through the day nicely without needing any particularly long awake periods. And I feel so much more human for having got up after the sun.

OP posts:
WingDefence · 10/11/2013 10:19

Morning all - lots to catch up on but I've got to get DD up from her nap to go to the village remembrance service.

Few things - I too have a copper coil and had my second period on it this week. HEAVY heavy heavy Confused and bloomin local Sainsburys only went up to super tampax. No bloody good (pardon the pun)! Glad to hear it does settle down after a few months...

And I was out last night too! Managed to stick to one glass of wine and a few vodkas so only a little bit shaky this morning but I reckon that is mostly due to the late night. Grin

And I started weight watchers online this week due to a groupon voucher. I've done it a couple of times before, always successfully, but I've never done it where I don't go for meetings and a weigh-in so I feel a bit lost at the moment. I liked the support from meetings.

Argh, really must get out the house!

BettyOff · 10/11/2013 19:13

Evening all.

Gerry well done on the weight loss. It's so tough at the beginning so it must be great to see such good results already. Good luck everyone else that's trying to shift some of this mat leave chub I refuse to admit it to DH but there does seem to be a lot of cake and biscuits involved in baby rearing

We've been down with my parents for the weekend but madam has still got her cold so was extra clingy and only mummy would do so no chance to dump her with the GParents! We did manage to have some lovely food, none of which I had to cook, and get her some new winter clobber though. Unfortunately we've timed the drive back badly so we're pushing bedtime back and hoping for the best.

Has anyone got any nice plans for this week?

Gerrythetootallgiraffeswife · 10/11/2013 19:31

Thanks all, I feel more determined than ever before but I'm aware that I always do well in the first few weeks of a diet, I'm a typical yoyoer... However, my incentives are better than ever. Public pressure when I start asking for sponsorship for the skydive is going to play a big part, but dd is the main reason. I don't want her to grow up with a fat mum. It could open her to teasing, she could end up thinking fat is normal, and I want the energy to run about with her and of course to live for longer!! Feeling pretty good on it now, and the weight is still dropping off.

I'm at work tomorrow for my final KIT day, then I'm determined to make the most of my final full week of mat leave. I feel a bit sick when I think about it now, didn't anticipate how sad I would feel, even though she's going to be with my mum.

Anyway. Strictly results are on, so I'm off. Where are ocado?!? They've got my fish and green vegetables delicious dinner!

worsestershiresauce · 10/11/2013 22:02

Hey guys, sorry for the radio silence.... BT in their wisdom have completely cut off my broadband. Apparently it is fixable.... eventually, but not just yet Hmm

Currently at Calcot Manor, which is a treat and a half. This is baby heaven. Not only do the small people have their own pool, there is even a mush menu. Yes really.... a choice of mush Grin

Catch up properly when I get back.

StormyBrid · 11/11/2013 09:42

Worse ring BT and threaten to take your custom elsewhere. The retentions team will offer you the moon on a stick just to keep you.

Gerry DD is an excellent reason to try to be healthier (and healthier has the bonus of weight coming off Grin). And you've got the competition to keep you going as well. Doing alright here, after the sandwich attack that lasted three weeks - have lost four pounds since I got back on the healthy eating wagon. The first couple of weeks are always the best!

Betty plans for the week here mainly involve trying to stay sane with the world's shoutiest baby. She's been alright this morning, but I just put her down for a nap and she's resisting. Applied teething gel, and found one's broken through at the top! So hopefully she'll be a bit more chilled out now it's through. Still far too many of the buggers still to go though.

Best news of the day: I rang the doctor again about the sleeping pills. Doctor number three agrees with doctor number one that they're a good idea, and isn't quite sure why doctor number two thought weaning off them was a good idea. I have a prescription for another month, and then have to go in and see him. Result!

Right, I better go poke the shouty one and tell her to go to sleep again...

OP posts:
Plonkysaurus · 11/11/2013 10:20

Worse glad to hear you've not gone full on pantry. Calcot manor sounds heavenly, enjoy your stay.

Stormy hopefully the first few teeth have done the hard work and it'll be smoother sailing now. How's the wonder week hell? Well done for not breaking out the biscuits in such a time of need.

Ds needs to learn how to sleep again. We did all the wrong things while he was ill and now cannot settle himself. So we're trying a gentle version of controlled crying. He's currently warbling away in his cot but they're only mini groans.

My plans for the week are post invitations, enjoy a nice lunch out with DP while he's on annual leave, and attempt to re-go back to work. I was off all last week, seriously worried that it'll mean my contract isn't renewed whenever it runs out - I know they can't officially discriminate but they can find ways to manage me out of the business, and I wouldn't put it past them.

StormyBrid · 11/11/2013 11:10

Mini groans sound like heaven, Plonky. We've just had an hour and a half of screaming tantrum before DD finally gave up and went to sleep.

OP posts:
BettyOff · 11/11/2013 12:18

We've just had our 8mth check with the HV and madam is a chubby 20lb 2oz! No wonder I'm starting to get arm muscles!

Plonkysaurus · 11/11/2013 12:49

Go MiniBetty! You've just reminded me to reschedule the nine month check though, thank you.

Stormy it turned into 30 mins of crying. Obviously we went in to calm him when necessary, but that sucked.

On the other hand my very cheap and unreliable scales are telling me I've lost 3lb in 2 days.
