Like the arm test. It's similar to what my mum calls 'rubber baby' ha! Yesterday sandy was so deep in sleep I put him in the Moses he didn't even move just lay there limp! Glad for my angelcare when he's like that.

So I stopped infacol and the colic is back with a vengeance. He's been crying in his sleep with pain it's heart breaking. Cuddles on me and dummy ease him. Hoping he manages a poo soon as its obviously what will make him feel better.

Congrats ambi sounds like a good labour, hoping you are home very soon the ward sucks!

Only got one visitor this weekend who won't stay long and THAT'S IT! :) going to curl up on the couch as a family and watch the F1 and films and eat stuff. Domestic bliss!

Happybunny12 · 08/09/2012 09:43

Ham - I thought about taking LO off infacol as he'd been on it a full week. Was concerned it wasn't good for him him but also dodn't want wind problems to come back... HV said the 3-6 week stage can be the worst for colic and infacol would do LO no harm so I've kept him on it. What was your reason for taking Sandy off infacol?

tumblebug · 08/09/2012 11:01

Congratulations Ambi, hope you're home soon.

3bears the breastfeeding group was run by a health visitor, someone from children's centre, and a breastfeeding counsellor from a local charity. They can discuss problems, look at latch etc. There are also lots of other mums with different size babies you can discuss with. I just went to meet people/ have a chat/ get out of the house (fortunately finding feeding much easier 2nd time!) - I think most people go more socially, and ask for advice when needed although I met one girl who lived further away and had come specifically for help with latch. It was apparently a smaller group than some of the other local baby groups, and was really friendly, I easily got chatting to people. Sophie was by far the youngest baby! Where I used to live there was a similar group, tended to be more younger babies (although I went when ds was a bit older) and was also really friendly, made some good friends there. Definitely recommend trying your local group.

I've had a great night - 12 hours in bed, must have slept at least 8, maybe more (interrupted by feeds/ nappies/ toddlers then straight back to sleep). Sophie asleep again - must have exhausted her yesterday!

tumblebug · 08/09/2012 11:02

Also loving the arm test!

hamncheese · 08/09/2012 11:03

Same reason happy didn't want anything except milk going in him unless totally necessary. Will keep him on it though after how upset he's been.

Just took him to out of hours gp as he had a temp. Got there and it had gone down. The reckon he got it from all the pushing he's been doing. Good news is Three nappy explosions this morning and he's sleeping atop my boob now. Much cooler now the poo is our. Waiting for floppy arm and then I'm having a long bath!

Hope your all having a good Saturday

Whiteangel · 08/09/2012 15:58

Guests arrived for lunch at one and Rowan decided to feed/cry to be fed for an hour and a half! Thankfully they didn't mind and kept me company! He is fast asleep now thankfully!

Nightfall1983 · 08/09/2012 23:52

Hi all, I finally made it over!! You've all Ben far to chatty for me to keep up. With but will try to do so from ow on :-)

Theodore Henry Oliver was born at 9am on Thursday (6/9/12) weighing in at 7lb 2/3oz. The birth was traumatic, with the pessary inserted at 6:30pm on weds, it fell out and was replaced by someone more experienced at midnight and strong contractions started almost immediately. I was still hoping for a water birth at this point and refused pain relief except for paracetamol until 6am when I gave up at the agony at had pethodine. Soon after they became concerned that baby was distressed during the contractions, checked and found I was 3cm at 7am and they broke my waters and I transferred to a labour room (DH came back at this point). Agreed to an epidural at this point as was so miserable and unable to keep track of what was happening due to the pain. two attempts at the Epi but was not successful - apparently I have an "unusual back" Hmm. An hour and a half after being 3cm was fully dilated. They were very worried about baby now and I was made to lie on back in stirrups, very uncomfortable and venerable position. Tried hard to push him out but turne out that he has the cord around his neck and every time I pushed him down a bit the cord yanked him back up. So had forceps and episitomy Sad. Baby was born, they quickly cut the cord off of his neck and put his straight on me, amazing feeling. Was fantastic learning that we had a boy, really enjoyed finding out for ourselves. The sticking seemed to take forever, was so painful and had to stay in horrid stirrups - I was haemorrhaging more than expected :-(

Have more to say but too sleepy now so could of unrelated questions: how long do the stitches hurt for? Had a 4cm episitomy.
Any ideas for soothing a haemorrhoid / piles? Had it checked today and apparently is not engorged so will go on its own but ouch!!
Does the little clip stay on the cord till the cord falls off? How long does this take?

MrGeresHamster · 09/09/2012 00:23

Congratulations Nightfall, sounds like you're definately pleased to be on the other side! Wonderful that your little boy is here safe and sound, even if the journey was traumatic....

Stitches for me started to hurt less when the swelling went down and then now at 3 weeks is virtually back to normal or as close to normal as will ever get be kind to your stitches and stay off them. I found two pillows on the sofa with a gap helped, I sat in the middle so less pressure on stitches. I take it you have been for a number two yet? Wet a sanitary pad and hold over the stitches when that happens.

Piles, you need to get some anusol and apply religiously! Also make sure you eat lots of fibre and drink plenty of water!

Cord clip you just leave on and it will drop off within the first week.

susiegrapevine · 09/09/2012 08:30

Hey everyone.

Congrats ambi and nighfall

All's well here. My grandad has now been moved to brighton hospital so they can do his heart op but they could not fix his collapsed lung so will have to do that as well but they are not quiet sure how they will do it yet! Anyway went there yesterday about an hours drive visiting hours are only 3 till 5 then 7 till 8.30 so aimed to get there for 3 which with traffic and a newborn turned out to be 3.45 left ds1 at home with dh. Got there and they had just taken him for an x-ray. 45 mins later he comes back! So only half an hour to see him :( anyway we stayed till half 5 as they did not throw us out and that was when there dinner came. For 1 min we thought it was gonna be a wasted journey!

hamncheese · 09/09/2012 08:39

Congrats nightfall on your boy! For haemorrhoids definitely go to the doc and get proctosedyl ointment and suppositories they are brill. Anusol did nothing for me and the stitches barely hurt compared to the haemorrhoid agony!!

MrsMigginslovespies · 09/09/2012 16:07

Many congratulations nightfall on your baby boy! Hope you're starting tor ecover a bit and taking it a bit easy where possible. If it helps at all, your birth sounds a bit like mine, with every drug going and lots of intervention at the end (but epidurals are amazing when they kick in...!). It was traumatic and has taken me a wee while to get my head round it, though I still think about it every day. My stitches stopped hurting after about 10 days (though still not back to normal yet down there by any means, as was also very bruised too from forceps) and I was taking it carefully at home, with lots of pillow etc to sit on. Paracetamol and 'brufen really helped too.

Anyhoo, have had an odd day, with Edward not settling at all afternoon, eventually resolved by putting him in the sling where he still is, all cosy and happy. Every day is so different from the previous that it's hard to predict what to do! Would love to see a pattern emerging soon...!
Hope everyone is having a nice weekend and getting some nice baby cuddles Smile x

capecath · 09/09/2012 18:43

Congrats ambi and nightfall!!
I had suction cup and episiostomy. Stitches hurt so much for the first 10 days or so to the extent that I could barely go near them! Took lots of painkillers so could focus on LO. Also suggest baths in salt water to keep them clean. Then they suddenly got better. Now 4 weeks along almost completely mended. Haemorrhoids gone down a lot but they are still there... Taking some of the advise now about those from other posts!

ham have you had any more projectile vomiting? We're having this issue most days, once a day. Literally goes everywhere, entire stomach contents, I think. He tends to fuss more in the evenings so I tend to feed him more, so perhaps am overfeeding, but then not sure if fussing is due to upset tummy, or I was thinking he was cluster feeding, hence lots of milk (am breastfeeding). He is gaining weight fine and seems mostly laid back and content, but all this throwing up can be quite upsetting for us! Anyone else, or any ideas?? DS1 threw up loads for 10 months, but was not usually projectile and got upset too, so looking back, think that was reflux.

MrsMigginslovespies · 09/09/2012 21:00

Brw, has anyone recently read back the posts from January?! Just had a browse through and we've all done so brilliantly all these months. V heartwarming to see all the advice and support Smile x

susiegrapevine · 09/09/2012 21:08

capecath would not worry too much about it looking like he has thrown up his whole stomach contents at antenatal classes I remember them telling us its not as much as you think it is. Think about how much it looks like if you even spill a little water from a glass. It always looks more than was in the glass. So its prob not that much at all. As long as he is gaining weight and still doing lots of heavy wet nappies I would not fret but might be an idea to ask hv or someone about what is causing the projectile vomiting. When jacob has eaten a bit to much his comes back up but not projectile. Maybe reflux or perhaps just a lot of trapped wind?? I don't know so just get some advice but as I said don't worry too much that it looks loads cos its less than you think.

tashaw28 · 09/09/2012 22:17

Congratulations to Ambi and Nightfall!
Nightfall our belly button clip took 11 days to fall off, so gross! MW said she's seen them on at day 14 too so do'nt worry!
Also, due to general laziness/tiredness, I didn't get round to getting anything for my piles and they just went on about day 12, was very hard going to the loo though (number 2) and 18 days in is still bleeding after going even though they have shrunk back.
Re stitches, don't sit cross legged or run up stairs etc too much, I did with my first and lost loads, this time they've stayed put as have been much more careful!

Nightfall1983 · 10/09/2012 00:26

Theo was nearly readmitted today Sad. Have been struggling with breast feeding, had been getting better but not quickly enough and MW was concerned about his jaundice and also weighed him early (day 3) and has lost 12.5%. Went to a+e for blood tests, was horrific, I couldn't stop crying thinking about he much I've let my boy down. His blood sugar came back normal, jaundice test was high but not bad enough to be admitted and sodium level was also high but they let is go home with an appt for a retest tomorrow at 11. My poor boy. This has coincided with my milk coming in (day 3) and the latch seems to be more consistent too. So starting at the hospital this afternoon he has fed nearly continuously - and for an hour and a half a side Shock. Still feeding now Grin. So I'm feeling much better about the whole thing. If tomorrows results are not good though then I'm going to ave to give him formula - my sweet angel having to have heel prick blood tests on days 3 and 4 in addition to the usual, just not fair!!

Happybunny12 · 10/09/2012 02:00

Oh nightfall poor you. You have NOT let your boy down, you are doing your best for him. Sympathy, it will get better.

Ambi · 10/09/2012 02:09

Nightfall, you definitely haven't let him down, it does take time to get into a natural rhythm with bfing. Also I think it takes babies some time to get over being born!! It's a bloody big process for them. No matter which milk he ends up drinking, you'll watch him thrive.

tumblebug · 10/09/2012 03:02

nightfall sounds horrible, at least your milk has come in - hope everything is ok tomorrow. The blood tests are awful (my 2 have had plenty because of my thyroid) - much worse for us than them though as they forget as soon as it's over. I fed Sophie through the last one and she didn't cry - probably luck, but might be worth a try.

I had episiotomy - took painkillers diclofenac) regularly for a week, and paracetamol first few days. Pain eased ny about 5-7 days, then a bit of stinging when moved awkwardly. Now (18 days) bit uncomfortable at times (whole area, not just stitches!) but not painful.

I paid for my good night 2 nights ago - last night and morning she fed every hour! So tired, and nipples sore. Hoping it's the 3 week growth spurt a bit early - in which case things should improve.(need to be optimistic!).

Going to put her down now - floppy arm!

Loislane78 · 10/09/2012 03:53

Don't worry nightfall, my LO had jaundice and was borderline for being admitted - quite common.

Our prob was she became too sleepy to feed and you kinda need to feed your way out of jaundice. We gave her 1 bottle of expressed and 1 of formula because even though the latch was fine, there is no effort for them to take from a bottle iyswim and that was enough to kick start her. 24 days later - no problems at all and ebf :)

If your LO is feeding, sure it will be fine and they'll suggest a feeding plan. They tested my LO every day for about 5 days I think.

Second tumbles advice about feeding during heel prick test - didn't even flinch! You'll both be fine :)

Whiteangel · 10/09/2012 09:45

Nightfall we went through exactly the same thing but my milk didn't come in until day 4 after c/s. He put a lot of the weight back on in 24 hours and three weeks down the line he is a right porker! Jaundice disappeared after a few days aswell. Don't give up and don't feel bad. You're a great mummy because you love him so much xx

susiegrapevine · 10/09/2012 12:18

Aww nightfall you are not a bad mummy at all. That collostrum stage is hard! That's why a lot of people don't get through it. Sounds like you are back on track tho. And don't feel bad if you have to switch to formula. If breast feeding is causing you both stress and ill health you have to do what's best for both of you. Hope all gets better. Xxx. Oh yeah and my lo also did not even flinch by being on boob for heal prick so try that it obviously works! Tho he did cry on boob for his vit k but had only just been born!

Alls well here except came into the living room from tidying the bedroom. Next door to each other as we are in a flat to discover the cat asleep on jacobs lap!!

Loislane78 · 10/09/2012 20:23

Evening all, hope everyone enjoying the nice weather and getting out if you can - easier said than done some days! :)

Just wondering if anyones LO noticeably had a growth spurt around 3 wks? Its been a feeding frenzy this afternoon and she's missed a nap. Hoping she goes off in a min for a couple of hours.

Was hoping to try her with a bottle of expressed this evening or a dummy but think I might wait for another day. What type of dummy's are people using? Got TT closer to nature but she doesn't seem keen, although only tried once or twice to be fair.

Have a good night :)

Gingerelle · 10/09/2012 21:41

Hi lois my LO is also 3 weeks now and feeding absolutely loads (can be every hour for much of the afternoon/eve) health visitor today said they tend to have growth spurts around 3 weeks and 6 weeks so sounds like it's that. She said need to feed as much as they want to as this ups the milk supply so meet their demand and that they will then settle back to more 'normal' frequencies of feeding. I found last night really hard as she was up loads wanting feeding, v v hoping tonight sees a bit more sleep for both of us!

hamncheese · 11/09/2012 08:20

lois sandy wouldn't take those closer to nature dummies. We gave him a non ortho one that came with bottles from boots in desperation. By the time we got him the ortho closer to nature ons he refused them. But yesterday got mam ones which are ortho and he likes them yay!! Less guilt each time I give him them!

Not had any more projectile vomiting cath just posseting. Has your LO settled in terms of vomiting in the last few days?

So we are now routinely smiling Grin started about 4.5 weeks but I thought still just wind but by 5 weeks he did seem to do it when looking at us. I the last few days he has been grinning like crazy whenever he sees me or DH after not looking at us for a bit. This makes everything so so worth it!

Also had his 6 week check and he is average weight and head circumference, but 75th percentile for length... And this coming from a 5ft2 mum and 5ft8 dad! He does have a 6ft uncle though ;)

How is everyone doing today, any good nights?? X
