they're starting to arrive, so here's our 'Due in August' post natal thread. To talk poo, pee, burping and everything else, too...

Here's link to antd-natal thread for those we'll be waiting for www.mumsnet.com/Talk/antenatal_clubs/1511603-Due-in-August-Thread-Part-6

Have borrowed Needles list, which I'll start here, please feel free to add your details to it. I'm rubbish at list keeping, and hopefully Needles will be along to keep it updated :o

marmite I have been expressing for 14 weeks for Minipop, at first I got hardly anything, but it does start increasing the more you do it. Keep a note of each session & how much you get, so you can see it increasing. Don't forget it may look small, but your LO doesn't need much.

Top tips for expressing are: Do it regular, every three hours if possible. I got onto the habit of feeding Minipop, then expressing straight away. Do it overnight, especial between 1am and 3am when hormones are peaking. Get a good idea first morning session in.

I won't say get lots of sleep, eat and drink well because although they do help, I found these three near on impossible to do with a new born & expressing.

Minipop is bottle fed, which really upset me as I really wanted to breastfeed, even more upsetting is he has just worked out how to breastfeed and my milk has all but dried up :( so tough.

Minipop is 4 weeks corrected and we are just getting into a routine ish, although it's not a definite one yet.

We move on sat, so hopefully new house will make routine much easier.

Ughhhhh

Sandy is back to his noisy ways. I think he has discovered new vocal range too as was screeching in his sleep all night long keeping me up... Especially bad as he only wants to sleep 1 inch from my face all the time!

Going to the sling meet today and good job as in the sling is the only place he is quiet!! Mummy needs some earplugs! :)

susiegrapevine · 31/08/2012 11:38

Omg day 10 and my fatty now weighs 8lb!!

tashaw it was me that was asking re dummies so thanks for that may try tonight but I don't really want him having one all the time. I was more worried about the fact it can hinder speech delvelopment than the tooth thing as I think most are ortho safe anyway as long as they are not those cherry shapped ones I think. Was gonna try the advent one that came with our new born bottle set.

capecath · 31/08/2012 13:17

happy yes! so much so we've nicknamed him Squeak! Especially when he's eating.

marmite glad you're getting lots of support. Don't think you've missed your window if you're getting something out. Agree with minipop - regular is key. The more you do it, the more you'll boost your supply, and don't worry if not much comes out at first - I remember expressing 1ml on my first night and that was great! :) Also try breast massage before starting which helps the flow.

woopsidaisy · 31/08/2012 13:44

Hi All!
Our adorable ball of cuteness arrived on 20th. 10lbs 12oz, now up to 11 lbs! He is worshipped by his big brothers, and has been a little star.
Breast feeding going well, and he sleeps quite well at night too.
I have been keeping half an eye on the ante-natal thread and this one too, just haven't managed to catch up yet! Doesn't it seem like yesterday we started the first thread?

susiegrapevine · 31/08/2012 16:20

Congrats woops wow that is one big baby! Glad you are all getting on so well. Hope your labour was not too hard!

woopsidaisy · 31/08/2012 16:51

My labour ended up being the easiest yet! Literally didn't have a scratch on me. 'Twas a miracle.Grin

MrGeresHamster · 31/08/2012 18:54

Congratulations Whoopsi! It really does seem like only yesterday that we were all getting our positive pregnancy tests. DH said something the other day which included the words '...you're not pregnant..' and it made me a little bit sad. Sad

Lovemarmite · 31/08/2012 19:01

Thanks capecath and minipopsmum for great advice.
I managed to get more today and will try again tonight and again in the night, mw also said to do one in the night and so must do it then and not be lazy!

Just had cs stitch out, ooooo odd and can't wait for a bath later, first one since June! Can't wait.

Congratulationswoopsi Wine great news!

Vinolover · 31/08/2012 19:41

Evening all :)

Huge congratulations Whoopsi!

I have a little grunter too! He sleeps so quietly during the day but as soon as he goes into his moses he starts grunting away, bless him.

Does anyone elses LO keep getting hiccups? William must have them at least three times a day! He does gulp his milk though so I suppose that would be why.

This is going to be way tmi but OMG, I have constipation worse than when I was pregnant :( My tummy hurts like hell just before I do need to go and it's like passing rough stones and takes forever! Im now left feeling very sore and sorry for myself. It actually feels pretty similar to how Battered and bruised I felt after having the baby!
Do you think I need to see the Dr? I got some dulcoease today and although William is now ff, I do still like to bf him occasionally but Im not sure if I can whilst taking these. Can anyone shed any light?

So, what with tiredness, you could say I'm feeling pretty damn miserable :(

Whiteangel · 31/08/2012 20:54

Having similar problems Vino. Went on dulcoease website and it says you can't take if breast feeding. I'm back on fruit and fibre and trying to drink more. Will be interested to hear more suggestions!

Vinolover · 31/08/2012 21:36

Thank you white, It's pretty horrible isn't it!

MiniPopsMum2012 · 31/08/2012 22:34

you can take lactulose for constipation while breastfeeding, it was my best friend during pregnancy and after birth during cs recovery.

If you don't like the taste you can even stick it in food or drink, but I just used to down it in one

dried fruit and prunes also work, as does orange juice. I am a master at trying to combat constipation Blush Grin

geekette · 01/09/2012 02:15

I spoke of my fear of pooing to the midwives and was told I could have lactulose. I hate the stuff so did my best with prunes and orange juice.

Riddle me this:
Why does baby suckle, fall asleep, poo in said sleep, have nappy changed in her sleep then feed again for an even longer time than the initial feed? Duration of the above ritual is usual ten minutes. The second feed can last up to half an hour...
If she hadn't poo'd would I have unknowingly underfed her?

MiniPopsMum2012 · 01/09/2012 04:03

geekette I just think they sometimes fall asleep during feeds as it's so cosy. Minipop does it halfway through a feed and I can't get any more into him even though I know he will be hungry, so we do mid feed nappy change too. That usually wakes him up and reminds him he is hungry :)

Vinolover · 01/09/2012 08:33

Thank you, will grab some lactulose then . After drinking that awful RLT, lactulose really can't be that awful Hmm (famous last words!).

Hope everyone has a lovely weekend :)

susiegrapevine · 01/09/2012 08:51

Hey vino re the hiccups jacob seems to get them all the time as well. Dunno why ds1 never did really! Think it might be cos he gollops his food!

geekete think minipop is right but also sometime they just need a rest as feeding is hard work. What I do with jacob is stroke his hands or cheek this rouses him enough to continue to feed.

WelshLadyCDF · 01/09/2012 10:17

My MW recommended the first half of feeding LO should be in nappy only, u can gentle tickle their back to keep them awake and they love skin to skin. Then at mid feed nappy change dress them.
Happy weekend all.
Xxx

The3Bears · 01/09/2012 10:24

Hi everyone, hope you and LO's are all well :)

Had nice family time this week we went to chester zoo yesterday and Noah was great he slept most of the day just had 4 feeds Grin think it was all the fresh air. I even BF for the first time in public Grin and you know what it wasnt that bad I put my aden+anais muslin over to cover up and no one even looked twice, it's gave me alot more confidence about doing it out and about now.
vino Noah gets the hicupps alot aswell but he's also a gulper :)

Question to any 2nd time mummies who are breastfeeding again; Does your milk seem to flow alot quicker 2nd time around and your LO's feed more quickly?
With ds1 I would be feeding for hours sometimes at this stage and ds1 seemed to swallow alot less, but with noah the feeds can be over in 15 mins and he seems very content and full and he swallows very quickly so I know my milk flows out very fast, it's very odd wondering if it's because Ive done it before.

Congratulations marmite Grin Hope expressing gets easier for you soon, dont really have any advice as I could never express with ds1 I was going to attempt it today but going to store any i get as I dont want to introduce a bottle yet as bfeeding is going so well and dont want to confuse him.

Cant believe Noah is 16 days old today it's going so fast x

capecath · 01/09/2012 13:30

3Bears re: 2nd time mummy question, yes!! Without a doubt this time seem to have loads more milk and feeds going so much more quickly and efficiently. For us I had put it down to premmie vs. full termer, and think also related to just having less time now with a toddler to look after.. I'm sure it does make a diff though in your body and you having done it before!

vino another hiccupper here! At least once a day.

geekette · 01/09/2012 13:51

Hiccups here too!

Thanks for possible reasons for longer follow up feeds. The midwives did show me the rub skin tactic to rouse them but this seems to be I effective on mini geek and seems to tend towards frustrations and burns. Changing or lying her down does the truck here.

I should have been at the Paralympics today but haven't figured out how to feed without a double barreled public display. How do you tie the muslin so that you can still gauge the latch?

Happybunny12 · 01/09/2012 17:53

Geek, have you any nursing tops? They pull up/ down to expose nipple without showing too much. Or a vest top under a loose top (pull down vest, pull up shirt, again minimum exposure.) And I'm a big fan of a handy pashmina for draping. If you're out with another adult (eg DP) they make a handy screen while you get set up. HTH. Smile

Loislane78 · 01/09/2012 18:18

Little hiccupper here too! Think I'm more bothered about them than she is.

Mamas & Papas currently have a 3 for 2 sale on nursing tops if anyone interested, although agree vest underneath regular top also works.

bears DD1 here but my milk and feeds seem to be over v quickly - 10-15 mins (even when coached to take more). She's gaining weight and seems contented enough afterwards as was initially concerned she was only getting foremilk. I'm expressing off a small bit of milk as she guzzles it down fast and sometimes gets trapped wind later in the day. Checking the poo doesn't go green as someone TLS me that can mean too much foremilk but OK so far :)

Gnomi · 02/09/2012 05:50

Congratulations to all the new mums!

Ben was 4 weeks old yesterday - cant believe how quickly the time is going! He celebrated by refusing to sleep at all during the day - woke at 9:30am and then only had mini catnaps of 5-10 minutes eg if he fell asleep after a feed. By 9:30pm last night I was tearing my hair out - if he wasn't feeding, he was frying and clearly really tired. DH managed to get him to sleep at 10pm, but then he slept until 5:30am. - 7 1/2 hours! TBH, I think I'd prefer a few more hours in the day and a night feed around 3, which is what he was doing. Anyone else's LO not sleeping during the day?

Going to try expressing and giving him a bottle today - BF is well established and Id really like DH to be able to give him a feed some times so I'm not to worried about confusing him - more about him refusing it! I'll be using the tips above, thank you!

geekette · 02/09/2012 09:14

I don't have a pashmina but I think I can get one in town today. (Tries to sound active in the vain hope it will motivate her out of the house today...)

I do have nursing bras but mini geek struggles with the only nipple presentation. I'll try to get some vests too and see.

Thanks for the suggestions.

And my next worry (does it ever end? ) has anyone else had a baby with extremely noticeable misshapen skull? Not the usual cone head. Mine has a massive dent to the side. When does it go away, if it does?
