What do you like to eat? At eight months babies can eat like the rest of the family although you need to go easy on the salt. In a lot of countries there is no such thing as special baby food.

My daughter loved finger food at that age. She loved steamed carrot, corrgette, potato. She enjoyed salmon, chicken, spagetti bolonaise, garlic bread. Peas and raisens are great for perfecting the pincher grip.

I used to make mini pizzas from muffins. I would get a white muffin, cut it in half, put some chopped tinned tomartos on it with cheese, red pepper, sweetcorn or ham as a topping. I would then grill it until the cheese had melted.

At 8 months food is about exploration and I would not worry too much if he doesn't eat a lot. Milk provides a lot of calories and a balanced diet.

Just bung them a bit of your food, assuming it's not heavily salted. Look up baby lead weaning and the no purees route. Weaning at 6+ months means they can grab and munch to get tastes of foods very effectively and, as prev poster said their main calorie source is milk anyway.

Im really worried about him choking which is why i have only just started the 3 meals a day (2 of them solids) obviously he doesnt eat much but he has a bit which is still good i suppose he just needs to get used to all the different txtures.

i do give him a bit of what were having if its suitable for him i just wondered if there was anything particular which anyones found that their kiddies have? The pizza is a good idea :)

This website will give you more info

Don't worry about choking.

www.borstvoeding.com/voedselintroductie/blw/engels.html#choke

I found with my children that meal times became an extension of play. They hated the baby mush.

Unless you eat a lot of junk food then whatever you are eating should be suitable for your baby.

What about giving him strips of meat or chunks of cheese, a pear or anything really you have got in, like the others have said though just watch the salt levels although you can buy low salt stock cubes.

He can really eat anything though, Sunday Roast, Spag Bol, scrambled egg, chicken and pea risotto, just anything that you eat.

There are some good links above and you might find some useful recipes here too.

gagging is not choking.

he needs to learn how to chew and swallow, gagging is part of the process. I know it is hard in the beginning, but choking is really rare.

Ive given him a finger sized piece of cheese which he loved and last night i gave him cheesy potatoes with green beans and i mashd up a couple of fish fingers and he loved it!!
He was so grouchy yesterday i gave him a double portion of porridge this morning!
I dont put salt in the veg etc. When i cook it so hes defo not havin too much salt

That's good news emma, just watch out for the salt levels in things like cheese and fish fingers though, it all adds up Smile.
