Here we are ladies. Let's see if we can manage to chat a bit more on this one :).

WWISA - sounds like your sleeping is pretty much the same as mine!

CSWS - I was told by Clarks that their sizes are 1/2 size bigger than Startrite. They advised me to go to Startrite as they didn't make shoes small enough for lauren. Bit of a pain as have a Clarks shop 10 mins walk away!

CantSleepWontSleep · 30/08/2011 23:39

Oh you may be right roundabout. I am too tired to think at the moment. Will get back to you!

Okay so my sleeping problems not as bad as I thought, probably only because DH has taken over and is much more determined to me. Have kept him in own bed (right next to ours) for 6 nights now. 1st 3 nights were terrible, 4th night he slept through, fifth night was up once, last night up at once for about 20 mins and then up for the day at six. So we are getting there. Could prob have done this quicker but unwilling to leave him on his own to cry.

dinosaurinmybelly · 31/08/2011 14:17

Congratulations goodname - that is wonderful news! Don't worry - the sleep issue will resolve itself soon.

CantSleepWontSleep · 31/08/2011 19:06

Roundabout - I've been thinking about shoes and I'm still 99% certain that a startrite 2 is a Clarks 2.5. Actually that would mean that you couldn't go to startrite wouldn't it. Confused

Congratulations goodname - how exciting. Fantastic news. Glad the sleep situation is improving too.

Alice has started walking in the last few days and she's so pleased with herself. We spent the afternoon at the beach today and she had a fantastic time waddling all over the sand by herself. She's really clingy at home at the moment though which is driving me a little bit bonkers.

minimoonumbertwo · 31/08/2011 20:30

So exciting goodname! Well done - really great news - hope you you are getting excited now it's sinking in??

Thanks for your words filly, good to know, I am calming down about it now I know that. Also I think goodname has a good point with the walking - you'll be chasing after her for cuddles before you know it!

barbeasty hope you're feeling better.

roundabout1 · 31/08/2011 22:40

Goodname - totally missed your post about pg. Sorry!!! How exciting!!!!!

WWISA - I'm confused now too, I know there is half a size difference but now don't feel sure which way round it is!!

madamefreckle · 31/08/2011 22:52

Hello everyone! It's been a while again but it's very reassuring to read that others are having the same issues as us. Emma is clingy with me, but not to the extent of Mia by the sound of it. But she will not let other people (outside our family) touch her. She is particularly awful with girls of 5-11 who just want to help her and baby her - she shouts and squarks at them, pushes, hits and kicks...nightmare!! But the rest of the time she is a super-smiley baby.

Sleeping has gone from being brilliant for a few months to waking up a couple of times a night. She screams the house down. Sometimes she wants a bf but often will continue screaming afterwards for some time in a really colicky way. I think maybe she has wind or other digestive problems Sad. roundabout1 I can really relate to what you're experiencing. It sounds similar. Not sure there is anything I can do about it except try removing different foods from her diet which I don't really want to do.

Emma isn't walking yet. She suddently took about five steps in a row a few weeks ago but nothing since Confused However, she is completely mad about climbing. Copying her brother's antics on our moderately high slide is a bit nerve-wracking!

Congratulations goodname!! Smile

Barbeasty · 01/09/2011 06:43

Thank all, I am feeling better, just a persistent cough now. Hopefully this next week of antibiotics will clear it all completely.

Ruth still wakes once or twice a night. But thankfully DH brings her in (I still have a coughing fit if I do too much!) and she'll feed briefly then goes back to her room nicely. The only thing at the moment is that the roughly 4am waking means that I have a really bad coughing session, I guess because lying down to sleep collects all the fluid together, and so I end up down on the sofa because it's more comfortable to try and sleep upright there. But I only seem to get back to sleep after 5 and have to get up for work at 6.

Ruth is more or less resigned to her inhaler. She loves playing with them though, and holding them either or our faces or teddies and making a "pffft" sound. Quite sweet really.

Congratulations Goodname! Another summer baby for you- and maternity leave through the Olympics.

Roundabout1- have you looked at hushpuppies, if you have a stockist nearby? Their shoes come in the size (Eg 2) and then they have 10 inserts which alter the width. I'm not sure how they compare length wise with Clarks etc though.

Ruth can be slightly clingy if I'm around, but isn't as bad as she was. I know when we looked around her nursery they said it was worst around 1 because it goes with being mobile. They said that until they can crawl/ walk they are essentially part if you, but once they can move around they want to choose what happens and don't like being put down/ left.

Don't know how true that is, but now Ruth is (to quote her key worker yesterday) very independent- a real personality. I just hope it was meant as a compliment!

Hope everyone else is doing well.

goodname · 01/09/2011 16:01

Fergus slept through again last night, thats twice in one week. miracles do happen, its funny how you convince yourself there is no point doing anything as nothing will work and then actually it does. Sadly he now gets up at 6 instead of his usual 8ish which is making my day seem much longer. Oh well cant have it all.
Madame freckle could it be teething, it produced similar symptoms in fergus.
WWISA Fergus was like that could be feeding 10 times on a bad night, we have sorted this out very very gradually and the first thing we did was to get DH to settle him instead of me at bedtime. Then we had that down DH wouldnt let him out of bed until a certain time (which did vary depending on how we felt!) We were a bit soft with this though and I was forever saying oh I think he has a sore tummy, oh hes teething, oh he's thirsty etc etc. Eventually DH got sick of me and sent me to sleep on couch for a few nights while he sorted it. SO far so good but we will see how it goes from now on. Sorry if that was a bit long winded just wanted to say it can get better, honest.

latrucha · 01/09/2011 21:11

Well, I leave you ladies for a few days and while I'm gone one of you goes and gets pregnant! Congratulations Goodname! Grin

Will be able to come on more once DD is back at preschool.

European shoemakers tend to do shoes for smaller feet. I had to chase them down for DD who was a size two when she started walking. I think I found some at shoes for kids and another shop called European Sole which doesn't seem to trade online any more ( but you don't get a proper fitting of cours)e.

Daniel is learning to talk which is unbelievably cute. We had 'dog' 'bubble' 'apple' 'vaca' 'agua' (Papa is Spanish) and some more. He was holding forth in baby speech about next door's cat at dinner time so DH pretended he understood him and he was overjoyed. He is also a damn danger to himslef and others. Today we had him trying to do a forward roll, climbing a book case and throwing blocks and people's heads.

latrucha · 05/09/2011 17:53

And then you all go away again!

Barbeasty · 05/09/2011 21:04

Right. I've lost 2 attempts to post this evening, so very clipped notes version:

Ruth doesn't have asthma, now got antibiotics.

I've got new antibiotics as pneumonia still clinging on. Thanks to La T for BFN link to check medication a while ago. May or may not discolour Ruth's teeth.

latrucha · 05/09/2011 21:27

Ha! I knew you were there! Grin

No probs Barbeasty. It's going to be one or the other, isn't it? Hmm Glad it's not asthma, I presume? Hope you're getting lots of rest. Pneumonia is persistent.

Barbeasty · 05/09/2011 21:51

Very glad it's not asthma, and that we don't have to "gas her" (DH's description) twice a day any more.

I think the doctor finds me awkward to prescribe for. I reacted once to amoxicillin, so he won't give me any penicillin drug, and then there's the breast feeding ontop.

I just hope that after what will be nearly 6 weeks of antibiotics I hope the actual infection will go!

madamefreckle · 06/09/2011 23:34

Barbeasty you poor thing. Hope you get better very soon and that Ruth does too.

I really don't think Emma's night problems are down to teething goodname. Although, having said that, she hasn't had any new teeth for absolutely ages. She has 6 and hasn't had a new one for 3 months (which is about when the sleeping started going downhill. Well done to Fergus anyway - long may it last :-)

DP thinks Em is possessed at night as she'll scream and scream and writhe around and then, as if a switch has been flicked, she suddenly calms down completely, sits up and starts chirping away happily and pointing at things. It's all most odd.

dinosaurinmybelly · 06/09/2011 23:41

Yes - teething troubles may be around the corner for a lot of us. Zoe has just produced her first molar! Could explain why we back-tracked somewhat on the sleeping front recently... and could also explain perhaps why my other DCs didn't sleep through until 18 months. Maybe that coincides with all their teeth being through... roll on Christmas - Santa Claus may be bringing me my first proper night's sleep in 4 + years!

dinosaurinmybelly · 06/09/2011 23:42

Hope you are on the mend soon Barbeasty. Pneumonia can be really persistent as someone else said - I don't know how you manage to do everything on top of that...

goodname · 08/09/2011 11:43

Ha Fergus has managed to backtrack on the sleep front also. Just when that early pregnancy tiredness is setting in as well. Grr. He has not slept through since I last posted and has been up between 1 and 4 times a night. Just have no idea what to do now. Still keeping him in his bed and still puting hand on him etc to calm him down but he just wont stop waking up.
Anyway pregnancy seems fine so far, about 6 weeks now and not telling anyone yet. DH wants to wait till after the scan this time but not sure if I will manage.

Strange how much less bothered I am by everything this time round. I remember obsessively reading pregnancy books and taking test after test last time, now I barely have time to think. So so much harder to give up my coffee this time (impossible in fact) so feeling bad about that. Feeling sad as well as happy this time as for one I know how tough a baby is now and mostly because I am worried about how Fergus will deal with the lack of attention
Hope you feeling better Barbeasty

latrucha · 08/09/2011 12:18

Daniel started waking in the night a short while ago. I'm so fed up with it now that the last two nights I have gone in and told him to be quiet and lie down and left him to it. He's settled after a minute or so. We have all slept much better! Poor DD was getting exhausted.

greensnail · 08/09/2011 19:31

Took Alice to get her first shoes today and she's a tiny size 2.5F (startrite). I can't believe she's so tiny. She's been desperate for her own shoes for ages and has been trying to wear DD1's shoes whenever they're left within her reach but she now seems very unsure of them and very reluctant to walk once she's got her shoes on. Not sure whether I should just leave them off for a while and try again, or to keep on with them so she gets used to them.

Glad the pregnancy is going well goodname. It's very different being pregnant for the second time compared to the first one isn't it.

Alice waking at least once a night at the moment. She feel asleep at the table this evening so was in bed very early. Hope it doesn't cause too many issues for us overnight.

Barbeasty · 08/09/2011 22:02

When we got Ruth's shoes they suggested that she didn't wear them too much at first, but to put them with her toys so she could play with them. I can't say whether it works, because she wouldn't take them off.

We're going on Saturday to see if she needs a bigger pair already- she's been a bit unhappy with them recently.

I'm feeling better, thanks. Just tired now. It's not helped by not being able to take iron with the antibiotics. I'm not anaemic but I've been taking a general pregnancy vitamin pill (for when we finally get to ttc!) and as my iron levels go back to normal it feels as though I'm short.

Barbeasty · 10/09/2011 21:18

Well, I had thought Ruth's feet were fairly small, but in 6 weeks she's gone from size 3 to size 4! Let's hope these last a bit longer.
