Oh spot Sad. I am sending mending vibes and saying a prayer for you all. I so wish I lived nearer so I could offer you some practical support. Please take care of yourself.

EffiePerine · 07/02/2011 12:55

Spot: you are having a horrendous time at the moment. Am negotiating with DH re a trip to Brighton - would be lovely to see you and the boys once DS2 has been discharged. And your SIL should know better.

I'm not going to be at the meet-up I'm afraid, the boys are too grumpy and tired to risk on a train. Boo.

I did enjoy my poncy day out at the weekend - a farmers Market which consisted of small bits of food tied with raffia and many posh shops. I would mock, only I was trying to find miso paste and edamame so I suspect I am One Of Them. We also had a mooch around Aldeburgh - pretty town, excellent fish and chips but a lot of weekenders. Rather odd.

JollyBear · 07/02/2011 14:45

Blimey spot Sad. I wish we weren't all so far away from you - lots of mending thoughts and white light coming from here. Do take lots of sandwiches, snacks and water to the hospital. You need to keep your strength up as much as possible. Could you wear earplugs to drone out some of the noise and help you sleep better? You'd still hear B when he needs you but you might be able to block out some of the background noise.

Much love to you, DP and your boys.

vagolaJahooli · 07/02/2011 18:54

Effie, your weekend sounded lovely I like endamame and miso, and I used to shop in Waitrose. I swear I am not posh, I'm Australian its not possible.

So how did the meet up go today?

I wander how Spot is today? Sybs I was very excited about getting PMd

EffiePerine · 07/02/2011 19:35

Vag: I blame you and Rubes for my sudden craving for Japanese food. My quest for miso was unsuccessful, alas. I may need to make a dash to the Japanese supermarket when back in Lunnon, unless Jam knows a secret location for oriental foods in Essex.

vagolaJahooli · 07/02/2011 19:54

Effie I get mine from natural food stores, you can get either the sachets or the jars of paste.

SummerLightning · 07/02/2011 21:56

Hello lovely to see rubes and ladyt today and the lovely o and d of course! Hope you guys got back ok... Lady were you going all the way back to Oxford way or staying in London.
Ds had a whale of a time.. Sorry but you guys were not the most exciting bit ... He told dh that today he "went on a train!". "what else?". "then went on a bus!" that was all dh could get out of him. Oh and something about being upside down too Confused

I managed to miss the train I was aiming for by 1 min on the way back but both dcs still slept almost all the way back...phew as the train was packed. Travelling all that way with the two of them felt like a bit of an adventure. Knackered now.
Oh and an evening out in London would be good without dcs as I didnt get enough uninterrupted conversation with you guys!

SummerLightning · 07/02/2011 21:58

Oh and bummer jj sent me a cute piccie of dd2 to show you guys in lieu of her not coming and I only noticed it when I left.

waitinggirl · 07/02/2011 22:01

SL - i am in awe of you coming from cambridge to london with 2. in awe. you are my hero. nuff said.

LadyThompson · 07/02/2011 22:19

Had a lovely day. (Am home now, SL, I didn't stay over on town as I need to be around tomorrow, builder is coming to replace a faulty window at the house). The mini Summers are very lovely! It was such a shame not to get to have a proper chat though, I was disappointed. It just went so fast and the kids are so busy. I think you are right about a meet up sans kids. Your friend seemed nice, I thought she was very brave to attend!

I was able to chat to our Rubes more as we toddled off to do her passport thingy and then up to Covent Garden for drinks and snacks with the charming lycra clad Mr Rubes. Thanks for being so patient with DD1, Rubes. She is fascinated by phones. Smashing to see you.

More tomorrow but I am shatterbanged!

zoejeanne · 07/02/2011 22:40

I had written a nice long catch up last night and then my blooming battery died before I could post, grrr Angry. So I will try again tonight and hope I can remember all the important stuff. You've filled 6 pages since Friday ladies!

Spotster my lovely, it never rains but it pours. I'm thinking of you and your boys and hoping everything starts to pick up very soon. If there is anything I can do from afar (ringing for pizza, doing an online shop are about the only things that spring to mind) then I'd love to help. Have you fallen out with SIL too, or is it just dp? If you haven't, could you ask for her help on the days he's away, so they don't have to be in the same room until time has allowed things to simmer down?

I can't remember what snacks I took WG but I do know I didn't eat anything cause I couldn't face it whilst in labour. However DH tucked in as we were there for 17+ hours before DD was born and I quickly realised his presence had a calming effect and so banned him from going to the canteen. Hear hear to Trace's comments, she summed up perfectly that the outcome is far more important than how you achieve it.

Vag your comment about AK getting some post viral pains made me shudder, I do hope not. I had post viral fatigue syndrome some years ago and leg pains, especially around the joints on bad days. I found some paracetemol and lots of rotating my ankles, especially whilst laid on my back with my legs up, really relieved things. I hope he's feeling better today

Beans your DH has pushed his luck. Can you enrol DD2 in nursery with DD1 for a couple of hours a week? Just til his race us done, to give you a bit of you time.

I am very Envy of Toulouse LadyT, I studied there for a year and loved it there, but haven't managed to return yet. I can't believe you are having to redecorate, after all your hard work, you must be absolutely fuming

Is anyone fb friends with Mom? I'm not, but I'm wondering how she's doing

I know I had other stuff to say, something to Kiwi and Jolly and Jump I think, hi for now. I'll go back and remind myself.

Rubena · 07/02/2011 22:43

Hello,
Yes agreed, it was fabulous to see you all. Summer and the minilightenings who are cute cute, and also Lady and the princesses. Not a problem at all Lady, dd is delightful Smile and yes agreed, more time to speak to the Lightenings would have been better, and I was even sans kiddies! Your friend was lovely SL.
Went to CX station and got a train straight away. dh was only 5 mins behind me on the bike when I got back to his mums Hmm
Shattered too. MILtried to take the kids to the swings on the bus and could only go 1 stop as apparently he would not sit in the seat. Wish me luck for the plane Confused
Massive thanks to MrLady again for helping with this passport malarky, and you too Lady for coordinating it all Grin
Shattered also, bye for now.

zoejeanne · 07/02/2011 23:05

Right back again, have remembered some more ?

Jolly is your condition pretty unique? It seems like you're being treated as some sort of prize to be collected and not a person and a mini person

On names for bits Jump, Mum always called it my pussy. I didn't like it as a child and loathe it now

Gorgeous photo Arti, so cute

What's all this PMing? Wouldn't have a clue what to do there ?

Night all x

JamInMyWellies · 08/02/2011 07:57

Sounds like you had a lovely time yesterday.

Lachlan back to his old no sleeping tricks again. Up at 3 went back to sleep at 5.30 in our bed then DHs alarm went off at 5.50. There should be a tired emote.

Can I ask some advice? For a long time now I have had a sharp pain in my calf. Last time I got my pill prescription the Doc talked about DVT. I dismissed it as am happy with my pill and really dint want the hassle if trying something else. Do you think I should go ask about the pain? Or am I being a bit dramatic?

EffiePerine · 08/02/2011 08:04

Jam: I would get it checked out to put your mind at rest. Are there any other symptoms associated with dvt?

I agree re an evening meet up - Thursdays and Fridays are best for me as I'm in town anyway.

vagolaJahooli · 08/02/2011 11:15

Jam I don't know that much about DVT cause its not really something kids get but I think you also get some redness and swelling in the area. I think any pain us worth getting checked out though. Is it associated with doing activity, or is it just random.

Beans33 · 08/02/2011 11:28

Oh my gosh, ZJ - cringe at pussy! Bleugh. I hate that name for a fanny when I hear it. Sorry! My sister called her daughter's her fanny, which she thought was her "family". Ha! I'm definitely in the fanny camp. I don't really think it's crude at all. And willy quite normal for knob in my opinion.

Jam - poor love re L. Hard work. I've just had 2 weeks of no sleep, so feel for you. Pru finally went back to sleeping through last night, so am feeling so much better today. Got things in proportion again!

DH - he does need to wind his neck in. Am taking the day off on Sunday and going for a shopping session on the Kings Road with my £85 John Lewis vouchers. YEEEEEHAH! Then will have lunch on my own in a nice pub/cafe and a good book, then wend my way slowly slowly home, in time for bedtime, I think. Might even go for a drink with a friend or something. Haven't really thought it through properly yet. But need to get my girls some summer clothes. Well, Izz anyway - Pru has loads of cast-offs, poor love!!!

Just got her passport photos done. Hilarious. Her ears stick out so much, little bear.

Dad coming up to stay this afternoon. I am so looking forward to it. The hospital where he has his radiotherapy is only 8 miles from us, so it makes sense. Hoping he does it regularly over next few weeks.

Spot - hope you're getting on ok. Thinking of you a lot. Honestly, your problems with the boys really puts everything in perspective and I hope hope hope everything is ok with both of them. Loads of love to you.

Does anyone have tips for getting antibiotics into reluctant children? DS2 has been prescribed oral antibiotics for his poor scabby face (eczema that has become infected). Tried disguising in choc mousse: no good. Tried the lightening approach with spoonful of meds + sweetie but most of it dribbled out. Next attempt: jam. He's taking a little but nowhere near the right dose.

vagolaJahooli · 08/02/2011 18:46

Its funny reading the names for bits talk I can't do pussy or fanny. Too many dirty westie bogan boys (in their Uggs) calling out 'Showuzzya fanny/pussy/gash". However, in our family we called them, regardless of gender, Weewees, not very nice I know.

DS1 is much better today and back to school tomorrow. He has been quite helpful to have around today, he assembled and taped loads of boxes ready for packing. I made a huge dent in the packing today, got loads done. The place is a bit of a tip but I can see a light at the end of the tunnel at least.

We are meeting our two possible new cats over the next few says. JB I have gotten some advice from a friend who has 2 cats which has been helpful, but I think I am going to post something on here in the pet section. I'm going to wait until after we've met them and we know for sure if and when we are getting them.

vagolaJahooli · 08/02/2011 18:48

Strawberry jam, yoghurt or milk would help, strawberry seems to cover loads of bitter favours.

Rubena · 08/02/2011 19:01

Effie, use a syringe, block his nose and aim it to the side on his inside cheek.
Back later...

sybilfaulty · 08/02/2011 19:08

Very quickly as the baby sitter is here and I am about to dunk my lardy body in the lovely new pool round the corner. HUGE thanks for all the PMs and other stuff - I will go through my account when I get home and acknowledge everything properly. Arti and Invis, I will email you separately.

Lots of lvoe XXXX

poisondwarf · 08/02/2011 19:30

spot spotty spot spot you poor thing. Hope the littlies are on the mend v soon, and you get a break and some sleep eventually. Is DS1 in pain? How is DS2? You really have had some rotten luck - like others have said, wish there was something I could do to help out.

Jam you had a longish flight recently didn't you? Have your pains been worse since then?

Beans yay to day off - you deserve it. In fact hats off to all of you who look after DCs full time. I rarely do a full day all on my own and much as I enjoy it, it's bloody knackering. I'd be in pieces if I had to do that every day.

Effie sorry about DS2's face, poor thing. No tips though I'm afraid. Oh by the way did you know there's an Asian food shop here? It's on the little road between the pound shop and the tourist office - I think it's quite new. Am just about to email you.

JB sorry you're being mucked about about the birth, but good to hear you seem to be holding up.

sybil I'd be fuming about the interview question too. Have you said anything?

LadyT bummer about the house. Will you need to change the move in date again?

Private parts - we say winkle for DS and ... erm ... nothing for DD. It just hasn't come up yet. When I was growing up we called it 'little bum', which I don't think I will be passing on to DD somehow. I quite like the idea of twinkle (v twee I know) but don't know if I can actually bring myself to say it. I am very fond of rude words but can't do fanny either Vag. Not that it's particularly crude - it just sounds smelly somehow.

EffiePerine · 09/02/2011 09:04

Thanks PD! Will have a look.

Sybs: am a day late as usual ;). You shd have an email.

Vag and Rubes: ta for the tips - yog a no-go, will get a new syringe today. The stuff smells vile, no wonder he won't take it. I also need to call back and check how long the course is, as there were no dispensing instructions on the label!
