Thought we should have a post-natal thread so we can stay together from our ante-natal one. Technically, DD was a December baby after coming early on new years eve; hope you don't mind if I stay with the January group after all this time. How is everyone doing?

Have been trying to decide for a while now - but I think it is now official - DD is stitting up Grin

PelvicFloorOfSteel · 29/07/2011 19:44

Hello everyone, it's been so long this had fallen off the bottom of 'threads I'm on'! Hope everyone is ok and has been enjoying the better weather.

How are all the babies with allergies doing?

Weaning still going well (plenty coming out the far end now as well) but I find it a really busy stage, I seem to spend my entire life making food, waiting for DS2 to eat it and wiping down the highchair afterwards.

DS2 is sitting but he very rarely sits still, he bounces constantly and can even bottom shuffle about a bit, although he tends to overbalance and land on his nose after a while (with a lot of wailing afterwards). DS1 didn't do this much moving around at the same age so it's come as a bit of a surprise. I'm a bit nervous how it's all going to work once I've got 2 bolting in opposite directions Confused.

beatofthedrum · 31/07/2011 12:36

Hello everyone, hope everything's going well. Am loving this stage so much - my two are interacting so much, bellowing at each other then in fits of laughter. Is lovely to watch. Ds is sitting and rolling over and over and eating - tiny baby stage seems totally gone. He's so easy-going I can still scarcely believe it. Dd keeping me on my toes though - 3 seems to be a crazy age!! Have had my 6th bout of mastitis and been laid low again - is frustrating and depressing but everything else is good so managing to plod on with bf. It's so good when it's good and so tough when it's bad. Hope our thread gets more active again, is great to keep up with everyone's news :)

CadleCrap · 05/08/2011 19:58

Still bf here (with food obviously!) - but will have to drop all but morning evening ones when I go back to work full time in Sept. However will stop completely as soon as the first tooth comes!!

Sarrita how is D?H. I do feel for you

blanchedevereaux · 06/08/2011 22:09

Hi guys,

It's gone so quiet on here! Is everyone very busy with their little ones? I love this stage, unconditional love and lots of big smiles and giggles. My 2.9 DD is being a horrible typical toddler most days so it's nice to have at least one happy face in the house!

Abby is now 6 months and 2 weeks. She is just beginning to sit up on her own but is showing no signs of rolling! DD1 did both by 4 months so I am amazed at the difference. We are doing BLW and she has had a few things I would never have dreamed of giving DD1 (ahem - chips in Ikea, a few spoonfuls of ice cream, a sliver of chocolate) but I feel she is missing out when we all have a treat - lol.

Still bf here too, though she is quite adept with a sippy cup. Would be nice if she begins to drop daytime feeds so I can go out for the morning or afternoon on my own because she still feeds about every 3 hours during the day. I'm happy to keep going until she is 1 and a bit, I still find it very convenient and I love the lip smacking smiles I get. Beat so sorry to hear about the mastitis.

Eczema under control at the moment so hope she is maybe growing out of it. No longer have to go back to hospital which is good!

Just back from a week at my Mum and Dads in Scotland with both of them on my own. So tiring. I think my Mum has forgotten how physical a 2 year old is and was a bit taken aback by DD1's constant jumping on sofa, etc. I think she expected her to sit there and read quietly. DH was away for a week with the lads at the Hungarian GP - must be nice! I've decided my sis and I are going away for a week on our own next May as compensation - counting the days already!!!

Still aiming to move house at end of the month tho still not exchanged. Booked full packing service but we are having a few last minute glitches that I won't bore you with but fingers crossed these get resolved soon. I am STRESSED!!!

PelvicFloorOfSteel · 09/08/2011 23:12

I'm really enjoying the interaction between DS1 and DS2 now (although totally agree 3 is a crazy age), DS1 keeps trying to make DS2 laugh and is so chuffed when he succeeds.

DS2 is not sleeping well at the moment, he's feeding constantly between 3 and 6, not sure what's going on but he's waking up very unhappy. I've not had any proper bfing problems but I've got a lovebite by my nipple again where I've dozed off while he's been feeding and he's gone a bit off course!

CadleCrap · 10/08/2011 06:59

Ooo pelvic! Wonder if it is a growth spurt thing as DD is asso not sleeping well - but she does have a bit of a sickness bug and throat infection

PelvicFloorOfSteel · 10/08/2011 19:16

Poor DD cadle, I hope she's better soon Sad

Could be a growth spurt, everyone seems to go on about 6 wk, 12 wk and 4 mth spurts, never heard a 6 3/4 mth spurt mentioned but that's what I like about these threads, there's normally someone going through the same thing at the same time!

CadleCrap · 11/08/2011 16:48

I ended up taking DD back to the doctors as she developed a rash, turns out she has tonsilitis and viral gastroenteristis Sad. However she is on the mend now and only woke up once in the night. Smile Hope that continues!!

DS is alos being a fabulous big brother - it is lovely to give them both a bath. He was so proud teh other day as he "learned" her to splash!!

CadleCrap · 13/08/2011 09:50

Has anyone else got a weird second hairline thing happening?

beatofthedrum · 13/08/2011 18:47

Cadlecrap, I giggled out loud at that, not sure what you mean?? Above or below original hairline??
So sorry to hear about poor wee dd, is awful awful when they're ill. Hope she perks up fast. Great news that you're discharged from hosp visits Blanche.
Ds has been on verge of crawling for days now - up on hands and knees, bottom waving in air, rocking back and forth...but no movement yet! Apart from tummy spins and rolls :)

PelvicFloorOfSteel · 14/08/2011 21:48

cadle Glad to hear DD is doing better but also no idea about the hairline! I think mine is where it always was...

We've just been for our first camping trip with both boys, absolutely exhausting but kind of fun. Both DSs were still up at 10, DS2 is still waking up a lot between 3 and 8, about 4 DS1 had his first night-time accident and we all ended up squished onto one airbed so no-one got much sleep. I don't think we'll try again this year but potentially I can see it working next year. Grin

CadleCrap · 15/08/2011 14:55

I loved camping with DS - haven't tried it with 2 DC and after last years tent-flooding-ripping-and-blowing-away-in-a-storm-while-we-we-in-it I don't think DH is too keen Grin

Surprised none of you have the hair thing - I thought everyone got it. Just me then Grin. It's like a very short small fringe underneath my existing fringe. At least my hair has stopped falling out in handfull though!!

Hannah1890 · 15/08/2011 20:05

Sorry have been AWOL. All been slightly mad here although everyone seems to have gone very quiet so am obviously not alone in that. Just back from my second lot of placement which I cut short by 3 days in the end so had a nice few days of holiday in York. Found working and having DS alone very hard so not looking forward to next year especially the weeks when my DH heads of to Edinburgh for work.

Glad to here everyone is doing well, DS is commando crawling and has just started pulling himself up on furniture and is into everything! nightmare! Trying to make the most of our last month together before he starts nursery though. Im going to miss him :(

cadle I also have odd hairline, a fringe which Ive never had is starting to appear. strange, glad not just me though.

blanche We're also moving at the end of the month, so sending my sympathy for your stress. Dreading the packing but were moving from a second floor flat to a house with a garden so cannot wait for that.

Hope everyone's well. Will hopefully keep up better now my mad summer is more than half done...

CadleCrap · 23/08/2011 12:39

I'm going back to work in 2 weeks time so trying to wean DD off me! She is a bit clingy Sad.

At least she is back to sleeping through the night after her illness.

Hope the moves go ok

PelvicFloorOfSteel · 23/08/2011 22:01

I'm not sure if I've got the hairline thing or not, I've always had a strange second fringe from setting my hair on fire when I was much younger!

Envy of sleeping through returning already, DS2 still doing the 5am starts. He has slept from 8 (so far) tonight with only a couple of little shuffles and stirs which is a huge improvement on his 10 or 11pm bedtimes.

MacMomo · 27/08/2011 09:53

Just on way home from 2 weeks in camper in Hebrides. Great to get away but dd's sleep has regressed from 2 night feeds to screaming every hour. Gutted, as I thought 2 feeds was bad enough. No idea what to try - home for a week then moving house then visiting my mum for a week, maybe too much disturbance? Am utterly shattered, hope dh and I get through the move without too much tired bickering.

Possible second hairline here! Possibly just losing some as now feeling 100 years old! And yet...

Anyone else starting to think about having the next one?

OP posts:
CadleCrap · 29/08/2011 09:11

Good God no!!!! I've got my 2 - sticking at that! Getting too old for this anyway Smile

DD regresses sleep wise if she has a disturbed routine - we had a late night (well 10pm) on Friday and she still not back to normal.

MacMomo Controversial I know but have you tried ignoring her? Especially if it is every hour - she can't be hungry. ALso increase her food intake during the day. however, that is a damn sight easier to type than to actually do

beatofthedrum · 30/08/2011 07:25

Hope her sleeping improves MacMomo, is soul-destroying operating on no sleep. My experience is it could go either way - ds never sleeps well in a travel cot but is fine again once we're home. My dd, on the other hand, used to scream for months after being put in a travel cot for a few nights - it was horrendous, wish I'd had mumsnet then!! The good news is that at age 3 she now sleeps fine. I do remember how sleep can take over everything - I used to dread her bedtime. Still can't take in we've got a 'good' sleeper this time (not amazing, but seems amazing to me!)

PelvicFloorsOfSteel · 30/08/2011 19:23

I'm being amazed by the opposite effect, DS1 was (and still is age 3) a fantastic sleeper, DS2 not so good! Last night was better but I still can't believe how much less sleep DS2 seems to need. What sort of naps are all the other babies doing these days? DS2 averages 2 half hour naps a day, he seems quite happy on that but I never have time to get anything done.

I'm pretty certain that 2 is my limit so not making any plans for any more. DP is very certain that 2 is enough, I kind of like the idea of having another child but don't think I've got the energy to do the baby stage all over again.

CadleCrap · 31/08/2011 20:20

DD sleeps REALLY badly at night if she doesn't have at least 2 half hour sleeps in the day. However, her routine was beautifully (nap/meal times etc)settled and now she has decided to change it all. God knows what that will do to her sleep but she did sleep from 8-8 last night all the way through with no waking, crying, feeding etc ( I had to sneak in to listen to her breathe twice!!)

MacMomo · 03/09/2011 17:38

DD naps twice a day, anything from 45 mins to 2 hrs per nap, usually around 9 am and 1pm. Usually about 3 hrs in total though it does vary. She might get 15 mins kip in the sling around 4-5 but I don't really count that. Then I usually bath her at 6.30 and put her down at 7 but I will do it a but earlier if she's really tired. Ignoring all the night wakings for milk, she wakes up between 6.30 and 7 am.

OP posts:
CadleCrap · 03/09/2011 18:32

How often is she waking at night now MacMomo? Have you tried just giving her water instead of mild. Sh emight just think - well if that is all I'm getting, waking up isn't worth it

I think I get 2 out of 3 good nights. Last night was a bad one - 12, 2.30 to 3.30 and 6 am.

I go back to work full time on Monday so I'm really hoping she doesn't do that to me on Sunday night!

MacMomo · 04/09/2011 10:31

Last night was bed at 7 then no waking until 9.30! Fed then and again at 1045. Then she wanted feeding at 2.30 but I just cuddled her back to sleep. Then again, wailing for milk at 3.30 so I fed again. Then 6.45, when I fed her and she was then up for the day. If she could just drop that 2.30 waking I'd be totally happy! She did the night before so maybe she is learning. Desperate optimism!

OP posts:
Hannah1890 · 04/09/2011 11:52

Hoping shes learning for you macmomo sending my sympathise, we have been quite lucky with having a "good" sleeper but whenever we go away he reverts to not sleeping at all and I feel like I have a new born again. You must be exhausted so have my fingers crossed for you.

I was also going to ask about how long everyone was napping. DS sleeps about 13 hrs at night with one feed about 5 o clock which is great but is also still napping 4 hours in the day. A morning nap about 10 and then another at 2 both 2 hours. Hes starting nursery on Monday:( and am worrying he wont get enough sleep but not sure if he really needs that much? a freind of mine has a DS 6 weeks younger than mine and hes only sleeping for 2 hrs in the day.the difference just seems crazy.

Very broody here and after a few hormonal outbursts we have agreed to wait to try till next Christmas which will mean I will have nearly finished my degree. and DS will be about 3 hopefully when new baby is born.

DS starting nursery tomorrow which I am still feeling guilty/heartbroken about. Have had such a lovely time just me and him and is quite upsetting to think well never get that again, but unfortunately its back to the real world for me now back at work on Tuesday and uni in 3 weeks. rubbish!
