Hi, I couldn't see a post-natal thread but as we grow in numbers we'll need a place to chat!

All good here... Jude is now 5 days old and such a wonderful good baby. Mind you he must think he's been born in the Arctic as it was -16 outside this morning in Edinburgh. Brrrrrrr - Its not always this cold Jude Smile.

How's everyone else getting on?

Hi All,

Just reporting back on my training day Grin.

Annoyingly lo and DP were absolutely fine! This is the baby that feeds on and off throughout the day and cries for more if I dare to eat/shower/move around. Apparently she was quite cheery all day (DH did bring her to me at lunchtime for a feed), and then wanted to make up for lost time when I got home, and cluster fed til about 1am!

I've also let her lick my banana (that sounds wrong somehow) and she seemed to enjoy it so I might start thinking about weaning soon.

Strix 12 month clothes! Wow.

I've just discovered H&M for children's clothes - they have some really nice stuff, reasonably priced, and makes a change from the usual blue or pink available at Next and Tesco!

MrsSnaplegs · 20/05/2011 12:32

Well another week at work nearly over Grin
Hugh still happy and growing well, we need to get him baack into the habit of napping properley during the day - he is very much into 10 minute power naps but rarely does much longer! Any tips!!! My DH is going slowly mad with not being able to get on with housework!! Not many women get to say that Grin

I am getting a short term promotion at work, my boss is moving to his next job earlier than expected so I get to cover for him for 4 1/2 months, no actual promotion but recognition on my reports and an extra £100 a month which will be quite nice - have to work out how to hide it stop my husband spending it on Landrover bits!

Strix · 20/05/2011 15:26

Oh, I'm glad the thread has slowed down. Now I have a chance of actually reading it.

All this talk of weaning, perhaps I should buy a high chair. But, God only knows where I would put it! Our house is so small and our junk is so big. I'm sure we are sing handedly filling all the landfills. I'd like to go back to Victorian era where all these useless plastic toys didn't exist.

DH's company is on the verge of going under and I am very stressed about not being able to pay rent in a couple of weeks if he doesn't get his salary. Long story, won't bore you, but just want to say ARGH!!!!!! Angry

MrsSnaplegs · 20/05/2011 20:18

Strix we got our high chair off eBay but our local paper had loads as well
Try one that attaches to a normal chair we had one for dd and it was really useful only reason we got a proper one this time is it's more comfortable for me with my joint pains

kellestar · 21/05/2011 21:01

I bought a high chair at an NCT sale a few weeks ago. It adjust in height which is really handy, £20. Bea is going full steam ahead with the weaning, however it's against the advice of our HV who is one of 'those' that follows the letter fully. She advises you can't do this or that because it's not the national advice but can't back up why. I'm logical and want to know the why's and wherefor's, so when she said mixed feeding [formula and breast] won't work because of national advice, I asked why and she spluttered and repeated it's against advice. Now she's not an idiot [has kids of her own that are at school] but I wonder. GP is happy though and asked her advice first. She's just on baby rice and fruit/veg purees. It's a delight introducing her to new tastes and textures. We've been mixing jars and homecooked. Pro's for jars are, fab to 'try' new tastes before I stock up on veg/fruit, the combinations [yes I've been writing down the % mixes] and convenience. Neg's are cost and how different it tastes to homecooked. I've prepared the basics like sweet potato, pumpkin, carrott, peas, pears, apples etc and frozen them in ice cube trays, price is really good but it takes up so much time. I am steaming and whizzing up with a hand blender, but Bea is really clingy again, and can spend short bursts doing non playing things, but it's really hard finding the energy some days.

She's really really playful and chatty. She is almost crawling, but she keeps pushing too hard with her feet and smacking her head into things and unbalancing herself. She loves to roll over and over and over. She wants to walk about when we stand her up. She does a little bit of the riverdance as well. She's way active and I am knackered keeping up with her. She doesn't nap more than 20 minutes once or twice during the day, but she will do an 8 hour sleep without a feed wake, 10pm through to 6am. I try taking her for walks in the pram to lull her to sleep but it just makes me knackered. Though I'm shifting some of the baby wobble, but I've still got the baby 'shelf' :)

Bea has now settled into her own weight band and she's steadily gaining, she's now out of almost all her tiny baby and newborn clothes, though the 0-3 month trousers/leggings/jeans fall down if I don't have tights underneath to hold them on. I don't think she will be in 3-6 month until the end of the summer though.

I'm amazed with those of you who have gone back to work, more so for juggling the time/work/family thing, It's my first and using that as an excuse :)

26minutes hope the wedding plans are going well, a small do is so much easier to deal with than a large one. I thought our's was large until I saw some of my friends wedding. We had 50 all in, including the wedding party. It was in the local church and reception in the village hall next door. Wouldn't change a thing, a lovely day. I hope yours goes smoothly and the sun shines for you.

MrsSnaplegs · 22/05/2011 07:11

Oh wow kellestar I wish we could meet up and put bea and hugh alongside for a photo! She sounds fab but so petite next to fat boy Hugh - I'm having to use 12-18 month trousers! She is much more active than him though he's too chubby to roll!
Don't worry about the mixed feeding and weaning, go with what is right for you and bea!! You sound as if you have it just right for you!
I still have a v wobbly belly (well 2 dc) went for our first proper night out together tonight, babysitter and everything ! Dh currently resting his eyes (!) downstairs!

Strix · 22/05/2011 16:39

Well, everytime i give DS any food (baby oatmeal mized with formula) his spits it back out. So, I'm thinking we aren't really in a hurry for a highchair after all. But, I think I'll wait until he han sit and get one of those little chairs that straps to a normal chair. Seems the most space saving option.

And I'm thinking of adding some fruit and veg to the baby oatmeal/rice. DD was a super pick eater and a complete nightmare to feed. DS1 would pretty much eat whatever I stuck in his mouth. I so hope DS2 is like his brother and not his sister!

Well, I finally built a cot and put it in his room (ok, DH did). So I am now considering the transition plan. I can really put him into the cot and let him cry because 8 yr old DD and 6 year old DS1 also sleep in that room. I'm thinking I will to him to sleep in my bed around 7:00 (which what I do now) and then transfer him when I go to bed around 10:00.

bakingkeepsmesane · 22/05/2011 22:17

strix Hat off to you, don't know how you manage to still post with small people x3!

I'm quite glad we're not planning solids for a couple of wks as dd has developed wakeful sleeping patterns all of a sudden...it's way past bedtime but I'm feeding again as she's woken up after taking ages to get to sleep in the first place & the last 2 nights she's not gone back to sleep after feeding for 45mins at 3.30...wide awake 'talking', so last night dh went in spare room while I carried on pretending to ignore her until she got upset & I fed her at 6. The 1st night I took her downstairs & we snuggle-fed the rest of the night on the sofa...silly me thinking it was a one-off! ...well, she's asleep in her cot again now so I'd better get my head down too & see what the night brings...sleep tight all x

Strix · 24/05/2011 21:00

I go to work all day and sit in front of a computer. That's how I manage it. I miss DS2, but it does have its perks. Smile

ButtonAzure · 24/05/2011 22:05

Hi - I haven't posted on this thread.. haven't been on really since DD was born but was on Dec thread sometimes last year. Have just come back to MN and wanted to say hi first! Have been lurking a bit though and happy to see that everyone seems to be doing really well with all the adventures associated!

My little Elodie is just five months now, she is a really calm and smiley baby. Unfortunatly my recovery from my CS was pretty awful, is only in the last month have been getting towards normal Shock had various hospital admittances and appointments, just continued abdominal pain etc but was finally discharged from consultant care today, hooray! CS definatly was not the easy option in my case! Found it kind of hard for first few months, felt a little like I missed out on newborn experiances as was too ill to focus on anything else than surviving, but like I say my precious girl is more than enough to make up for it.. first slept through at 3 weeks!

Have had milk oversupply to hilarious proportions.. i once leaked 18 ounces in 2 hours, just sitting there collecting in shells! has just about leveled out in last couple of weeks. If i don't find a product before I have another DC (no time soon btw) I might have to invent my own or commission one specifically for me!

Anyway lovely to be back, hope you are all good :)

Strix · 25/05/2011 12:16

Hi Button.

Sorry you had such a rough section recovery. Sounds very long indeed. But, I am most Envy of your milk supply. I do everything I can think of to boost supply and am luck to get a drop. So, we mix feed or DS would starve. Sad

MrsSnaplegs · 26/05/2011 15:35

Strix - just like me I am back to MN whilst at work! Miss DS but get sneaky time every now and then like this afternoon. DH need time to get on with sorting the trailer for tomorrow so I worked through lunch so I could take DS to DD school party this afternoon. I am now back at work but really can't be bothered to be here!! Looking forward to a 4 day weekend.

Button - sorry you had such a rough time, hope you are feeling much better now!

kellestar · 28/05/2011 21:48

button my gosh sounds like an awful time you've had. Hope you are on your way to recovery now and enjoying your time with DD.

mrs SL it would be good for a laugh lining our little ones up. :)

Am going through some real agony with BF, Bea insists on nipple pulling and head butting. I had a blister on one nipple that was so sore. I certainly know she is teething. Weaning is going really well, spoon feeding mush three times a day, she wolfs it down happily. MIL is back to her old self and really upset me earlier in the week. DH came home to both his girls in tears. He is happy with how things are at home and though it would be great if It would be great if more got done, but he thoroughly understands how demanding a baby is. Bless him. She's made me really stressed and it's not fair.

DuelingFanjo · 30/05/2011 14:06

Hi all. I?ve had to spend all afternoon apologising to DH for slamming the door to the spare room last night. Basically he snores so loudly that I can?t sleep and it?s the only way to wake him up. Bob has a cold (I think) and for the last two nights he has woken me up at 2am and I?ve not been able to sleep. Fair play to DH he does take Bob in the mornings so I can sleep in (on weekends) but when I hear him snoring away like a fog-horn at 2am I see red and feel really resentful that he is getting a decent night?s sleep. I think Bob has a cold as his breathing is rattling and he has lots of bogeys, not sure what I can do except sit him up straight to sleep which again means I can?t. This is worse than when he was a small baby. On top of all this DH is away every mon-wed as he?s doing a course and will be sitting an exam next week. Neither of us need the stress.

I am thinking of trying out some blw next weekend. Bob is sitting well now, though still falls over sometimes, and is really interested in our food. He won?t be 6 months until mid june though so not sure if I should hold off. I was thinking of just giving him some steamed broccoli and carrot to play with.

Esian, did you start weaning yet?

Wow! I?m not at all envious of those of you who are back at work; I am enjoying my maternity leave far too much Grin but I have managed to get confirmation that Bob has a place in the work crèche for September and I?ve mailed my boss to sort out dates for my return. Eeek. I feel like my whole life is totally different now so going back is going to be very strange indeed. Well done on the promotion MrsSnaplegs I am starting to think about leaving Bob for longer periods but that means starting to express again and trying him on a bottle or cup. I guess I could do that alongside the weaning. I?ve taken him to my mum?s house to stay overnight while DH is away and to get him more used to my mum who is going to have him midweek for me.

strix I bought a highchair from ikea, it?s easy to dismantle so might take up less room? How are things with your DH?s job? Hope you get better news.

Gosh kellestar bea sounds dinky! Bob is almost in his 6-9 month but nowhere near getting into 12 month stuff like Strix and snaplegs's DSs! Hope your MIL is behaving? Can DH step in?

Hey there ButtonAzure nice to see you Smile and sorry to hear your recovery was so rough. Can you believe some people think a C-section is the easy option. I can totally sympathise with the missing out on the newborn stage. I feel like that because of bob being in neo natal. I never even got to see what meconium is like.

MrsSnaplegs · 31/05/2011 14:33

DF Are you sure Bob has a cold and is not starting to teeth, they often get really snotty, have horrendous nappies and often get nappy rash as well as red cheeks (face not bum!) Have a feel around his gums top and bottom with a clean finger. If it isn't a cold could it be alittle bit of hayfever? Do you or DH suffer? If possible a small amount of vaseline around the edge of the nostrils may help prevent the pollen getting in - obviously don't block the whole nostril with it!

If you still think it is a cold then get some olbas oil or karvol and put it on his night clothes (just a drop or 2) it won't hurt at this age, if you're not happy with that put a bowl of steaming water in his/your room at bedtime with some of the aforementioned in it, or put some drops on a pillow case or soft toy and leave it out of hands reach but in the cot.

More often the rattling isn't on their chest but it is in the back of their respiratory tract - when they lie down at night they get post nasal drip (basically a runny nose going down their throat) this can collect until they swallow, sneeze or cough and sounds really rattly.

DuelingFanjo · 31/05/2011 17:00

thank you mrssnaplegs. I got some karvol today :) I am pretty sure it is a cold as he is hoarse and his nose is really snotty. No allergies or hayfever in me or dh so really hoping it's not that. He is teething too though so maybe related to that?

He's much happier when sleeping tilted. I'm at my mum's house tonight and having a little rest while he sleeps. Here's hoping it's gone soon as he's a bit miserable.

maxpower · 01/06/2011 21:27

Hi All, can't believe we're all 6 months or so in already! I'm really lucky in that (fingers crossed), I'm not going back to work until mid-Feb although it'll hit our bank accounts hard.

DF hope Bob is feeling better soon. Good news on the creche. I mixed nursery with GP for day care with DD and it worked really well.

strix good to hear from you, hope DP's job is ok - DH & I are both public sector so are in a bit of limbo over whether we'll both still have jobs long term..... Re the high chair - would one of those ones that you fit onto an existing chair save you space? Not sure how much they cost though. I'm with you on the toys - I spent an entire day last week sorting through DD's toys to make some space for everything she owns.

button good to hear from you too. You have my sympathies over the cs recovery - I had a really rough time with DD and was so thrilled when I had a fab vbac this time round. Take it easy and don't over do it. Hopefully you'll be feeling your old self soon enough.

kellestar sorry your MIL is being such a cow.

Matty is doing really well. Still sleeping through at night. He seems to be a really chilled out chappy, which is great. He's working on sitting up at the moment but keeps collapsing as he's more interested in chewing his feet. He's just started showing an interest in our food so he should be nice and ready for weaning in a couple of weeks. I'm really looking forward to weaning him. He's fascinated with DD - gives her all his best smiles and watches her constantly; she's great entertainment for him and loves him to pieces. She's constantly arranging herself around him and telling me they want a picture taken!

All in all, I'm having a lovely time being a SAHM this time round.

Chooster · 02/06/2011 11:18

Good to hear back from you button - but sorry to hear you've had such a tricky time since the CS... Hopefully everything is on the up now but a shame it impacted on those early days.

Like you maxpower I'm not due back to work until January and I'm so grateful for this extra time. Its going to be hard financially and DH is already making stressed noises about money but I'm going to do all I can to keep away as long as I can. I'm enjoying spending all this time with all 3 DS's and getting more involved with the school etc. Life is sure busy! not sure how I can fit work in Wink.

How is Bob today DF? Hope you had a good rest at your mums - good idea to get Bob more used to being around her.

All great here. Jude is fantastic and such a lovely wee fella. He's sitting and up on his knees and hands so I'm guessing he may be crawling with the month... quite looking forward to it as he will be able to be a bit more independant and move to where he wants to go. he gets quite frustrated when I put him down to do something else. He's still not slept through the night though! grrrr - come on Jude!! but he is into the second hour of his morning nap so I've got loads of house stuff done - guess I can't have it all!

PJen · 05/06/2011 01:06

Hi girls, hope all are well.. I don't get much time in front of computer as well as I am constantly trying to enjoy every second of having DD. She is adorable to me as I am sure your LOs are to you. How lucky we are to be mothers... My life has changed so much with this experience and although I always thought having a baby would be amazing but never anticipated to feel this deeply.... DD can sit now and has started on finger food and meat as she is now 7 months old. She is healthy size for her age and there is no sign of premature baby in her. She started babbling Da da da yesterday and I was really disappointed as I was hoping for Ma ma ma ... oh well...
We haven't got around to get a high chair yet and am going tomorrow to mothercare to take a look around. I need to buy her a baby carier as well as we will be traveling and the baby bjorn is too small for her now. Any recommendations? Also, I have been wondering on how much milk to give while feeding her solids. I have kept similar nursing freequency as before weaning and she nurses 4-5 times a day. She takes less milk now that she has 3 times solids a day. So I have been reading a lot on that and it seems as if we need to keep the milk amount the same...

Button, good to hear from you!! What went wrong with your CS??? Maybe the forgot something inside you during the surgery?? A friend of ours went through that. She wasn't recovering well after a surgery and was having pain and had internal infection and it turned out they forgot a surgery gaz pad inside!!! wow to your milk supply!!!

Okay need to go and feed my little sweetheart a bit and then get some good sleep.
Wishing you all nice restful nights and may all your babies sleep well and deep tonight.....
x

MrsSnaplegs · 05/06/2011 08:38

pjenLook at the little lite carriers - we picked one up on eBay for about £30, it's like new. Very lightweight and comfy

Strix · 06/06/2011 16:29

DF, I'm probably too late with this. But you can clear Bob's nose with asline solution. Will help him breath.

Hi PJen. Nice to see you! Smile

DH's job is okay... this month. (fingers crossed for next month)

I've decided just to feed DS2 in the swing and then get one of those booster chairs that strap onto a regular adult char. But, of course, my little chunck will need to sit up first.

We do food twice a day (cereal and fruit in the morningna dn cereal and savory in the evening) and I don't count how much he drinks. I just let his thirst guide us.

kellestar · 06/06/2011 17:55

Bea has her first cold. Karvol'd tissue stuffed down her vest and saline soloution ready for tonight. She woke me up at 3am in tears over her snuffling. Snot every where bless her. I also bought some nurofen for babies, also just in case. My medicine cabinet is busting with all the bits I have bought her.

Esian · 06/06/2011 21:25

Hi everyone,

I've been a sahm since DD was born over 3 years ago and I promised DH that I'd go back to work when LO was 9 months. That will be September but I'm loving being at home with her and don't want her to have me less than DD had iyswim Smile. Money is tight, and it would be lovely to plan holidays and do toddler activities so I might look at doing something part-time. I just wish we could win the lottery Grin

Lo will be 24 weeks in a week and a half so I'm starting to think about weaning. She's not as wobbly, but still can't sit unaided so I will be doing it slowly, and continuing bfing as her main food. That is unless she gobbles her food down and definitely wants more!

Sorry to hear about all these colds - I have a Karvol plug that I plug in the room when needed. It seems to work quite well.

Is anybody getting a full night's sleep yet? It's funny how you get used to being woken up! I'm off to watch 24 and have a Wine before the night shift starts.

93pjb · 06/06/2011 22:59

Hello all,

Lovely to hear from you again pjen. I'm still using my moby wrap and love it. I also have a little life convertible carrier which is ace for a toddler, counts as hand luggage which is really useful.

fingers crossed for your dh strix it can't be easy having that hanging over you.

Hope bea's cold isn't too bad Kelle

very impressed with jude's gymnastics and button's milk supply!

Mostly good here, DS is sitting pretty reliably now and had his first meal today, don't think he ate more than 5% of a steamed carrot but he had fun. He is another wee chunk - weighs the same as his sister did at a year. They fit the same size clothes now too just she's got much longer legs and arms. There's almost 3 years between them so I keep warning her to be gentle as he'll soon be bigger than her and get his own back! He is still quite snuffly so he has an inhaler to help when he has a cold. I am slowly getting used to no dairy and not missing chocolate too much, it makes an enormous difference to his skin and possibly to his breathing too.

No sign of an unbroken night here esian!

I love my 2 so much but am feeling very sure that this is my family complete Have just heard that my sis and best friend are both pg, due DEC/jan so wonder if I'll feel broody then. Does anyone else feel like that's it, definitely no more babies?

Lavitabellissima · 06/06/2011 23:19

Hi everyone, I keep meaning to post but it seems like there is just too much to catch up on!

In a nutshell, girls are now 7 months, still BF, I too had a huge supply, the girls are on 3 meals a day, and I'm getting engorged boobs again, hopefully it will balance out soon. we bought ikea highchairs Antilops, which were recommended by another twin mum, very easy to clean and take apart!

Will try and keep up now Smile
