I bloody hate Nick Clegg

Every time I see his smug face I want to throw something at the telly.

The guy lost seats at the election and should not have anything like the power he has. He has betrayed all his principles, and all his supporters, for a sniff of power.

I didn't vote LibDem this time, though I have in the past. I never will do again. I hope they are annihilated in the next election.

prolesworth, yes, he was opposed and still is. but that's a coalition for you. like I say, he would have had to compromise on a lot more in a coalition with Labour.

vesela · 24/06/2010 13:27

and yes I thought the tax bomb poster was stupid at the time, given that Cable couldn't rule it out either. no one would.

Aitch · 24/06/2010 13:27

the tories must be coming in their pants, all the anger being directed towards the libdems. this is a huge victory for them, getting to move forward with their policies while spanking their coalition partners out of political existence. it's kind of awe-inspiring.

Hullygully · 24/06/2010 13:29

Nick Clegg's prostate must be killing him.

HurleySatOnMe · 24/06/2010 13:30

Ah expat, that would have been some holiday. How's that for a regret- that the bloody volcano didn't blow a few hours sooner

HurleySatOnMe · 24/06/2010 13:31

Fuck a doodle do, expat I need that joint back. I have an image in my head of Tory scrotum that needs erasing fast

ilovemydogandMrObama · 24/06/2010 13:48

yeah, Aitch, that's why they only showed Osborne from the top up at the dispatch box giving the budget as he had a hard on

longfingernails · 24/06/2010 13:48

Yes, the "VAT bombshell" poster was stupid - if they were so anti-VAT they should have ruled it out themselves. The same goes of Labour by the way - Ed Balls was absolutely right about that.

Aitch - quote of the week, surely? Humour, vulgarity, & incisive political commentary. Brilliant.

Oh, I agree, Liberal principles are most definitely not aligned with the Labour Party I believe in.

Thank fuck.

...and New Labour's neo-Thatcherism. (as my old mate Tony Benn puts it so eloquently)

I think good will come out of all of this in a few years time....Labour will move back towards the left, but without the loony elements of the past, the Conservatives will turn out to be what Conservatives always turn out to be, negative and destructive and utterly unwilling to help the members of society who need it and everyone will go "Nick who? Oh, yeah, that bloke that sold the Liberals to the highest bidder".

Come on, seriously, are there really any Liberal voters who are happy about a pact with the Tories? The real life Liberals I know are all horrified at what they've done.

expatinscotland · 24/06/2010 17:55

Well, I wrote to my MP, a LibDem, about the whole DLA kerfuffle. I posted pretty much what I wrote verbatim in the budget thread.

But I didn't mention I'd not voted for him, or that I will do my best to campaign to get him the sack at the next election (also for wanting to further privatise Royal Mail which will certainly mean an end to uniform pricing and much greater increases for his constituency) .

I'd be interested in his response.

But the SNP meets once a month down the road and I can tell you, since the election, in the past two meetings, that village hall has been packed with folks.

Scottish elections will happen next year.

longfingernails · 24/06/2010 18:27

I don't think the SNP will do well in the Scottish elections.

They are incumbents in Holyrood, and have a history of bad decisions to defend, at a time when Scottish Labour is resurgent.

Labour will win big. I do agree that the Lib Dems will get squeezed. I can't see the prospect of a Tory recovery in Scotland any time soon.

vesela · 24/06/2010 18:28

Simon Hughes is supportive of the budget (he sent round an email with Clegg to that effect) but I think has been making it clear that he intends to make a fuss about parts of it. and quite right too.

also worth pointing out that Nick Clegg isn't in favour of untrammelled market forces. No Lib Dems are.

A lot of Lib Dem voters and nearly-Lib Dem voters wanted the Lib Dems to be what (they thought) Labour wasn't any more. In a few respects they might be that, but not in general. As in, Lib Dems aren't socialists.

vesela · 24/06/2010 18:28

Bucharest, the ones I know are all pretty happy with the pact, if not with all its details.

expatinscotland · 24/06/2010 18:35

You know what, long, I honestly don't care as long as it isn't Tories (I won't even differentiate LibDem from them because they are one and the same as far as I am concerned, and everyone else I've spoken to around here).

I predict a Labour landslide, too.

Especially with twats like John Redwood pontificating how we should just add another jumper on in winter.

I've heard Hell is a cold place, even colder than Scottish winter.

I'll be seeing him there, and all his ilk, and will do my best in the meantime to see as many as I can lose their seats.

Tories won't 'recover' here.

Because they treat us like bastard stepchildren.

Any fool can see that.

azazello · 24/06/2010 18:40

I agree with Vesela and am another lib dem voter. I don't think its any worse than it would have been under labour tbh. Vat rises would have come from everyone.
