Kenneth Clarke - Secretary Of Justice WHY, was'nt he at the heart of the BSE scandal?

Many of us remember the BSE scandal and corruption back in the 80's and 90's when Mr.Clarke was the Minister of Health from 1982 - 1985 then the Health Secretary 1988 - 1990, it beggars belief that Kenneth Clarke can take on the role of Justice Minister when nobody has been made accountable for the hundreds of deaths from the Human Form Of Mad Cows disease (vCJD), nobody has been bought to justice for these unavoidable, unlawful deaths, does this man have no integrity, honesty,transparency or moral code?
How can we trust this man who did nothing to stop the lethal pathogens from continually entering the food and medicine chain from 1985 - 1996 (era of corruption).
One death from vCJD is one death to many.
There is no hope for open and honest politics when such a person is given so much power, he should resign!

I think we need to be informed about this as dementia is on the increase and in Mr.Stringers case he was thought to have dementia when in fact it was CJD. Every time I read about a victim of vCJD/CJD I shall be putting it on here in the hope that Mr.Clarke will read this and see the impact that his decisions during the BSE crisis as Health Minister have made upon the British population, one death from CJD/vCJD is one death too many.

Well you never know mumsnet seem to have some very influentual politicians on the website or have'nt you noticed? even if just one politician takes a look at this thread at least they will be reminded of what went on during the 80's and 90's, I'll say it again, how on earth can a past minister responsible for the health of our nation be given such a powerful position as justice minister in 2010 when NOBODY had been made accountable for the deaths of so many people from the human form of mad cow disease. Many families are distraught at losing their children to this and see that the blame lies at the door of the ministers responsible for our health during the 80's & 90's. This disease was given to the us through medicine, food, surgical instruments, vaccines and nobody is accountable, it stinks!

Here is another victim of nvCJD, Irhad Rizvo aged just 23 is currently in a London hospital dying from nvCJD, how did Irhad contract nvCJD was it due to an eye operation that he had? It is so sad to see the pictures of Irhad as he is now unable to swallow, his only hope is for an operation in Scotland to slow down the symptons of nvCJD, but unless his mother can afford to pay £16,000 there is little hope that Irhad will survive the devastating onslaught of nvCJD and certain death. My heartfelt prayers go out to Irhad & his mother.

The connection to Ken Clarke is quite remote

Never voted Tory, but KC was an intelligent Chancellor who managed the economy well. (unlike Gordon Brown). Also he's very down to earth and just a bit cuddly. Funny you should be hounding this most likeable of Tories

If you want to criticise Ken Clarke for anything, surely it should be his long association with BAT (British American Tobacco)of which he's been a director and Deputy Chairman.
Otherwise, I think he is one of the better politicians (and I am most emphatically not a Conservative) and I don't consider him particularly closely connected with BSE.

I just wanted to update Ken on Irhads condition, he is very very ill, unable to move and is semi-conscious. This time last year Irhad was a 3rd year university student in London, talented guitarist and fit footballer. Why are you linking Ken Clarke with this case. A Bosnian that happens to be at university in London? One case, however sad, does not constitute an epidemic. A case where the source of the disease and timing of contraction is unknown cannot be pinned on the actions of any government, British or otherwise.

I also think that if you're trying to raise awareness and get sympathy you're going about it the wrong way.

Chil1234, they think the vCJD is linked to an eye operation Irhad had in the UK several years ago, people have contracted vCJD from eye operations, cornea grafts. More people are dying from this but you will not read about it in the papers, not news our government want you to read about, they like you to believe it has gone away, been eradicated somehow, not true. If you talk to families of victims who have died from vCJD many lay the blame on our ministers who were involved at the time of the BSE crisis, I am afraid to say our cuddly Ken was one of those crucial ministers. Would you believe that no one has been made accountable for the deaths of over 240 (still rising)people to date. They knew as early as 1985 that BSE could be transmitted from animals to humans they failed to act and led us all to believe that beef was safe. If your child died from mad cow disease I am sure you would feel totally devastated you would wonder what you had fed him/her was it that beedburger, rump steak, beef in baby food that you gave in between 1985 - 2000? could it be an operation or blood transfuison your child had all those years ago. Think about it, 25 years on, incubation period upto 50 years, you have no idea how many more people are going to die from this. I am not going to stop posting on here just because people think there is no epidemic, I will post as much information as I can to keep some of you ill informed people aware.
One mother I spoke to whose son died earlier this from Mad Cow Disease told me that she fed her son beef when he was a toddler because John Gummer said it was safe, she now knows he was lying.

Yesterday was the "INTERNATIONAL CJD AWARENESS DAY" I was honoured to meet several families who have lost loved ones to the fatal human form of mad cow disease (vCJD). Many of these families blame the government who led us to believe that beef was safe to eat, John Gummer, Kenneth Clarke were ministers during the BSE crisis, and their role was to look after the interests of the british public, but they failed and in doing so they played russian roulette with the lives of 60 million people. Today we see the sickening results of their actions, lives have been devastated by the human form of mad cow disease (vCJD), a fatal
disease that has wrecked so many lives, at least 8 people a month in the UK are being diagnosed in 2010 with this vCJD.

Hi all you out there looking for answers to how BSE in Cattle becomes nvCJD in humans. It has nothing to do with the humble "Beef Burger" as stated in the inquest on Stephen Churchill the first known human victim.

You cannot get nvCJD from eating infected meat not even if you ate the entire infected animal. nvCJD does transmit to humans from BSE but not through ingestion.

The crucial point to know however is that the UK authorities,perhaps Kenneth Clarke knew this from the outset.

The Over-Thirty-Month was a diversion that it was hoped would minimise the impact. Falsely state that only older animals Over-Thirty-Months could pass on the disease would totally protect if accepted the beef meat market. All beef are by that age on your dinner plate. Falsely claim that dairy products cannot transmit the disease and that market remains secure. Get the EU to pick up the bill for the dairy herd and "Bobs your Uncle" No cost solution.

Unfortunately no-one believed the nonsense that an animal 29 months could be safely eaten (there were may full blown cases down to 19 months) but one 31 months couldn't . The bottom fell out of the UK beef market and the result was more deaths from farmers through suicide occasioned by the severe economic conditions than from the incurable disease itself.

I know that the UK are hiding the true facts and have spent many hours in police cells and months in prison because of my efforts to expose this.The authorities are prepared to employ any method criminal or otherwise to conceal the truth behind 200+ deaths and the infections of many 1,000's of others.

I do not know what that truth is but to monitor the activities of a single mother like Christine Lord who lost her son and have a security file on her suggests that this is not just the health ministry and rural payments industry that are involved in this cover-up.

I have 7 tapes that purport to be of a conversation between me and government officials the only purpose of that conversation was to find out why the authorities were not preventing the millions of Over-Thirty_months animals that they knew were evading the regulations. If one beef burger infected with BSE could cause nvCJD ( the inquest verdict in Stephen Churchill) why did they allow the equivalent of 600 million quarter pounders into the system when simple procedures could have prevented it. They did not want to answer because the beef burger was not to blame but neither did they want me to pursue my enquiries.

Having first falsified the tapes ( yes falsified the tapes) they advised that no enquiry into breaches of the regulations would commence until I confirmed the accuracy of the tapes. I could not do so and well they knew it. My interview ended at 12:30pm the final tape ends when I am at home talking to my wife 20 miles away at 3:30pm. The police (who prefer not to be involved but will happily "Bang me up in Clink) have never even asked my wife to confirm this nor even my son. Ebven though I have subjected myself to a "Lie Detector" test which confirms that I was not in an interview situation beyond 12:30 pm

To conceal what really lies behind the BSE/nvCJD scandal the tape recording of a 3 hour conversation has been professionally altered with the first half hour removed and the remaining two and a half hours extended to five hours to invite a charge of libel so that i will be forced to abandon my concerns.

Probably done by the same people who have the file on Christine Lord. That shows just how desperate the authorities are to conceal the truth surrounding this deadly incurable disease and who is responsible for killing 200+ people as many farmers and infecting 10,000 people as carriers.

We can name at least 10 people at the Rural Payments agency who definitely know the truth and if as Health Secretary the truth was with held from Kenneth Clarke he now has no excuse as Justice secretary not to find out and prosecute those people behind this appalling scandal.

Thanks for reminding us of this terrible scandal. Fact is, the then government chose to hush up the scandal to protect industry. They knew there were huge risks to human health but chose to ignore them and chose to lie to the public. Their wrongdoing has caused terrible suffering for the families affected.
