It was so very disappointingly small . I know it clashed with the FA cup final and all that, but why didn't more people go? I thought we were all PR people now.

Jenny. I would have gone, if I had known it was on, but on second thoughts I might not, if Coolfonz was there, as I am sure we would had a punch-up.

I don't think that PR is top of the agenda at all. Jobs, economy, tax credits, buying a home, pensions, the expenses scandal... that's what people were asking about, not PR. It was big news last week as the major concession in the formation of the coalition but, now that there's going to be a referendum on AV, it's not interesting any more... hence the lack of support for a demo.

vesela · 17/05/2010 14:46

chil, that's like saying "The economy's more important than civil liberties." They're both important in a different way, and supporting one doesn't mean you're putting it in front of the other. It's not somehow frivolous to demonstrate in favour of PR.

(and people were seeing the expenses scandal as an aspect of FPTP).

plus the referendum isn't won yet.

Who said it was on top of the agenda? It's not on top of mine, but it's important to me and espeically, i would have thought, to a lot of Lib Dem people who are hoping for a good deal in exchange for coalition. I doubt that many of the people who were there would argue that, but it is important and the rally was an attempt to build on some of election momentum and to keep the issue alive in the face of all the other pressing concerns. It was actually a really good gathering of people from various parties and organsiations, including the Greens, Compas, LibDems, the Fawcett Society etc... Didn't see any Conservative banners though ...

The speakers were interesting too, especially Evan Harris whose message seemed to be support the coalition and keep pressing for change. The best thing was seeing lots of young people doing something political including my very small dc.

comp; I only heard about it because I signed the PR petition and gave my email address.
