Politicians Should Say 'Thanks' More Often

You know the kind of thing.... To the silent unremarkable majority that get on with their lives, cough up their taxes, stay out of trouble, bring up nice kids, look out for other people and generally manage to keep things ticking over - how about the occasional 'thanks'? When times are hard and we're going to be asked to 'dig deep', 'tighten our belts', 'cut our cloth', 'pull together', 'fight them on the beaches' and any other cliches you can think of, I think politicians underestimate what a little well-placed gratitude could deliver.

Chil1234. Thanks for posting this here. It says it all, as I'm the only one posting here so far. People do not seem bothered, to question MPs and state, hang on a minute if you want money and for me to tighten my belt, what about the gratitude. I personally think that any Governments gets away with murder, they bring in laws that people don't want and infringe on our civil liberties and get away with it. Many people are completely complacent.

Why should an employee say thank you to their employer?

ImSoNotTelling · 17/05/2010 08:49

Hmmm yes chil I think you're right.

oomjimaflip. Unfortunately it feels as if they are the bosses and we are the employees.

They are not though are they? We just fired the last lot.

Employees do say thanks to their employers occasionally. Politeness costs nothing

Electing a government is like the shareholders of a company appointing a CEO and board of directors to take the company forward. Yes they are ultimately accountable to us but we expect them to set the agenda.

My point still being that if they wish to lead effectively they can do quite a lot by harnessing goodwill with the occasional thanks.
