A golden opportunity for Gorden Brown

Gorden Brown will now be able to prove what a caring person he is. He will be able to take a job in the voluntary sector, caring for all the vulnerable people in the world. This is what he said he would like to do.
Or will he take some remote, well-paid job in the banking sector. I wonder.

He has already said he will devote his life to charity work
He is not like Tony Blair, not driven by personal wealth and glory
He is a very reserved and private man with a great sense of social justice
I thin time will prove what a good man he is

Disenchanted3 · 12/05/2010 10:54

I agree Piffle.

I'm very glad to hear that he is a man of principle. When he does as you say, he will earn my respect

Thought he was taking the position as head of the IMF?....

IndigoSky · 12/05/2010 15:01

Excuse my cynicism but he will be on a whacking great pension and not need the money so it will be much easier for him to devote his life to charity than the rest of us mere mortals.....

choosyfloosy · 12/05/2010 15:02

'charity work' could easily mean taking on a well-paid leadership of some major voluntary-sector organisation.

i think that's all right tbh, but these days there is a grey area between wiping the bottoms of the sick and being a director of Amalgamated Breadheads Inc.

Ninna you do know that Gordon (and Sarah) Brown has already done an immense about of work caring for vulnerable people around the world don't you? He is very admired and respected for the work he has done internationally especially with regards to reducing the unpayable debt of developing countries.

Funnily enough you never get to read about it in the British press and Mr Brown himself never really talks about it. It is no surprise that he says he wishes to continue in this field now that he has more time to dedicate to it.

Beachcomber · 12/05/2010 16:22

In other words he has already 'done what he says' so maybe a little respect would be in order.

I expect that like President Carter, another man reviled by his national press, he will do something greater than the Prime Ministry in his retirement.

Bramshott · 12/05/2010 16:28

Er, he is still an MP you know!

Piffle · 13/05/2010 14:15

Gb gave up his grace and favour pension actually

from the Grauniad
"Once he steps down, Mr Brown will be entitled to a special pension as a former prime minister that is even more generous than the parliamentary retirement scheme. The pension pots of former prime ministers are around £1.75 million.
However, mindful of the need for restraint, Mr Brown last year gave up his grace-and-favour pension, which would be worth more than £64,000 a year. Tony Blair currently receives such a pension."

I can't wait to see what he do's next although we will probably never hear of all the good work he will do. Amazing man!
