Who do you think that Clegg should go in with?

It is obvious that Labour and Tory voters each have their own ideas, but if you voted Lib Dem on May 6th, what do you think?

If only they'd insert a clause about parental responsibilities. Something in the spirit of:

Parents should be free to fulfill their legal parental responsibilities free of unrequested/unwanted intervention from the State - unless there is reason to suspect that they are failing to do so.

That would be my home ed dream but applies to all parents who might make unconventional choices

TheHeathenOfSuburbia · 13/05/2010 11:21

Don't think the Tories would ever go for that, the 'Small Government' thing appears not to apply to family life.

azazello · 13/05/2010 12:00

I'm pleased with how they've done so far. Vince Cable will be great as Lord Mandelson Business Secretary and it will give him a real opportunity to have a go at the banks. I'm also really really pleased about the commitment to scrapping ID cards and cancelling the third runway. Yay!

anastaisia · 13/05/2010 13:34

They might you know, it's the Tories who have said no change to home ed law, the lib dems still need convincing.

complimentary · 13/05/2010 20:44

180 posts. Soon you'll be runnning out of libdem 'voters' to put on this thread.

snowlady · 13/05/2010 22:01

Has everyone who voted lib dem and is happy with the outcome joined the lib dems? I ceased to be a member some years ago but have just rejoined as am so relieved at the eventual election outcome and wanted to show support for what the lib dems have achieved so far (I don't think the tories need the money so much and expect their membership is more expensive).

vesela · 13/05/2010 22:07

anastaisia - I really hope you manage to get stuck into that (shaping home ed policy). I saw your thread, btw - I meant to say hello. Will do now.

kalo12 · 13/05/2010 22:14

vince cable has already been frozen out of an impotant meeting with the banks by george osbourne, they are passing it off as a minor tiff but it won't be long before the lib dems realise they've been totally shafted by the tories

snowlady · 14/05/2010 07:39

kalo that is a bit worrying.

Loujalou · 14/05/2010 09:02

That's what happens when you get in bed with the enemy Tories. Poor Vince. Am sure he will fight back.

ConDemNation · 14/05/2010 09:52

Complimentary was that supposed to be a clever kind of insult?

There are a lot of people who dont wish to declare how they voted...it doesn't mean that there are only 180 of us!

kalo12 · 14/05/2010 22:36

yes its more than frightening. the tories will be completely shafting the lib dems in a few days. i'm looking forward to it all kicking off. if nick had had a bit of integrity he would have said no deal to the tories, and let them form a minority govt. then when they failed, he would have reaped the rewards in the next election.
instead, nick has ruined the party's chances forever, no-one will vote for them now.

i'm sure nick's not bothered though as he is a power hungry tory anyway

Loujalou · 15/05/2010 11:06

Kalo you speak sense. I wish I could laugh but its too depressing.

kalo12 · 15/05/2010 22:26

well have you seen camerons proposals for ofsted inspetions? he doesn't think and social or emotional factors should be acknowledged at all. so there will be no looking at whether your child is happy, or whether they have socio economic factors which might affect they're learning. he only wants academic achievement measured. so schools will have to dispense with worrying about spending resources on bullying policies, healthy eating, enrichment, just tests and more tests and any school that doesn't get results won't get any money. (but it's ok because the ones that fail can be rounded up and sent to gas chamber join the national service for 16 and 17 year olds.

snowlady · 15/05/2010 22:50

kalo12 - did you vote liberal democrat? or New Labour?

I think most lib dems think Clegg pursued the best option possible given the outcome of the election. As a result of clegg's actions some lib dem policies are being adopted and the policies coming out from tories/lib dems are much better than they would have been from the tories alone. Most genuine lib dem voters are very happy.

It sounds as though you don't want things to work out which is the line taken by the labour party at the moment.

Coolfonz · 16/05/2010 08:21

imo the coalition has had its high point. all downhill from now. clegg has got his moment, he can cash it in at a bank for a few hundred k a year suckers...the sooner the next election comes the more the liberals are toast so the tories have really pulled a fast one...the libs will be forced to cling on as long as possible in the hope the voters who switched to them will forget how clegg betrayed them...

after all the deputy pm comes from a party that got 15.6pc of the uk voting population, many of whom didnt actually support the liberals, but voted tactically...

sad what politicians will do for a moment in the sun isn't it?

vesela · 16/05/2010 09:37

I'm hoping there will be less tactical voting under AV (need to win the referendum first, though) so that people who'd rather vote Labour in Lib/Con marginals can do so more freely.

snowlady · 16/05/2010 10:34

Coolfonz - another labour voter trying to tell the lib dems how to manage their party?

Coolfonz · 16/05/2010 22:55

Yeah im really a big fan of the war criminals...

snowlady · 17/05/2010 07:54

coolfonz - glad you are not new labour However you imply on a thread for real lefties that you are an anarchist so I don't know why you care what happens to the three main parties. I would have thought your best bet would be to join the greens and the campaign for voting reform.

Coolfonz · 17/05/2010 09:05

I'm not saying i care what happens to the LDs, I'm just predicting what will happen...that Son-Of-Herman-Munster has grabbed at power for short term gain/his own bank balance.

Well on the one hand they could have all jumped off a cliff, on the other a minority Tory govt should have followed the election.

libgirl · 07/06/2010 13:14

The Con-Lib coalition is really worth a try. They appear to be in high gear and they should be, considering the deficit is in the same range as Greece's! Anything with labour in it wouldn't be good right now. Tories know how to make cuts, and the LibDem's have a genuine political conscience. Coalitions work and have worked in many European countries, it's not all hoorah's, but at least it's a reflection of what voters have said.
