For Mr Dear Gordon Brown and Family, because I know Sarah Brown may lurk, a support thread

although I can't dictate that, I hope that is how it turns out.

I for one will miss you. I and my family will be sad to see you go. They've painted not just the town but most of the country red for you!

I think your heart was in the right place, though I did not always, and I think you really cared, even about people like us, in the Highlands of Scotland.

I hope when it's all over, that you and your family come home to Fife and enjoy a retirement.

We don't live in the East anymore, and it will all I can do to keep us here for now. But my husband and my elder two are from the East in Edinburgh, and all their family from Fife and the Perthshire Highlands, who accepted me, a foreigner, as their own when they were under no obligation to do so.

You are so welcome up here.

The Queen Mother, daughter of the Earl Strathmore said, 'Duty is the rent you pay on life.'

You took that to heart, and regardless of what others may say, some of us believe that, maybe even the Queen!

Best of luck to you and yours and just to know, you are not without your supporters, Mr Brown (I think that is how he is called but forgive me if not).

Well done. And, as Churchill said, 'Keep b*ggering on.'

Nobody can be a prophet in their own land, and it is certainly true for you, Dr Brown. We as a country owe you a lot though. Thank you very much for your hard work.

Hope you will find happiness and purpose in the rest of your career and life.

All the best to Sarah and the boys, too!

Thank you for your hard work, Mr. Brown.

For once it felt as though someone with conviction and moral purpose was leading the country. I'll miss it.

iamnotaprincess · 12/05/2010 18:15

we love you!!!!!!!!

Higgledyhouse · 12/05/2010 19:38

What a great thread.

I nearly puked watching them two W***S today kissing each others arses.

Gordon Brown will be sorely missed. I am gutted at the reality of a tory government whatever shape of form that is!!!! It was heart breaking watching his resignation speech and was desparately hoping he would hang on, doing a deal with the libs. Truly gutted and as so many have said already the treatment of him by the media was disgusting!!!

Good luck Mr. Brown, you are a kind and caring man and it wont be long before this conuntry realises the terrible mistake it made last thursday! I wish you was still our prime minister!! I really do.

Also, just for the record, you won those debates hands down!!!!!

highlystrung · 12/05/2010 19:49

I'm with you all on this one. I think Gordon Brown is probably a genius who has his heart in the right place but was hounded out by the right wing media who very definitely have their own agenda. Most probably to save their owners some tax somewhere along the line. I feel very sad to see him go - a good man being replaced by a not so good one, I think.

PosyPetrovaPauline · 12/05/2010 20:57

Barely slept last night hoping all is well for you all....
Damn those boys are CUTE!

expatinscotland · 12/05/2010 21:24

stanausauruswrecks · 12/05/2010 21:48

I am so sad to see you go. I really respected you as a politician, and I think you did an amazing job under the most difficult of circumstances. You remained dignified throughout.
I wish you and your family good health and much happiness in the coming years. You certainly deserve it.

RunawayWife · 13/05/2010 08:07

I do feel that if the press had a good photo of him or one that made him look daft, they used the daft one.

Hope he is having some family time and getting ready for what ever comes next.

cuillan · 13/05/2010 20:31

I would also like to express my gratitude to Gordon Brown for everything he has done for not only my family but the country as well.
I was heartbroken/devastated to see you leave, and spent the whole of Tuesday evening/Wednesday morning in disbelieve and shock.
I have always greatly admired you and knew thet you always held our best interests at heart.
Like alot of people i am now very worried about what the future holds and will miss the security i felt with you leading.
I hope the future brings much joy and happiness to your family.

drosophila · 13/05/2010 21:28

I loved the paintings next to his desk in the photos in the Guardian. I think GB is a much more emotional and caring man than ever came accross on camera. I'm sure he made mistakes but who can doubt his heart. He so worked hard for this country.

I see a man and a woman who so deserve a good rest and I do hope he will go into teaching and mould and shape some future PM.

Sarah looked so upset the other day I really felt for her but those boys will take the sting out of it.

Dear Gordon

Truly this is a day when we all must pause, and think about what we have lost and what we have gained. Yes, you lost an election, and your job...but what about us? what have we gained? what is your legacy?

we have gained a very very big debt.

we have gained tuition fees.

we have acquired an array of impressive new associations with despots who help us to outsource our need to torture suspected terrorists.

we have a parliament with zero credibility and we have kissed goodbye to the concept of ministerial responsibility.

On second thoughts maybe i'm not so very sad after all

vodkaandtonic · 13/05/2010 22:52

Strangelybrown
That's out of order
Start another thread

Strangelybrown · 13/05/2010 22:55

poooooooor old Gordon. diddums.

MinaTannenbaum · 13/05/2010 23:24

I voted for you.

My constituency is still Labour at least

I hope and am sure you will continue to be a force for good in politics from the backbenches and I hope you and your lovely family are enjoying being back in beautiful Fife.

I'd like to thank you in particular for all the good that SureStart has done, working with families who need it most.

DarkesTAngel30 · 13/05/2010 23:26

I just want to say that Gordon Brown is the only person in politics I actually believed when he said he wanted the best for the people. He has kept his dignity, he has not stooped to anyone elses level, and I am proud to have had him as my Prime Minister. I am 31 years old, I was born in 1978, I remember Mrs Thatcher. I remember my dad working two jobs just to feed us kids and pay the mortgage, sometimes we went weeks without seeing him at all because he worked such long hours for such small pay.

Mr Brown, you gave us tax credits, which gave me the opportunity to go to work as a single parent before I had my two youngest children. You allowed me the opportunity to give my 11 yr old a decent start, a safe start.

I dont vote for people based on their looks, their charm, or any other superficial ideal. I voted for honesty

I know you will continue to do good things for the people, you're a decent man and I have huge respect for you, as does my 11 year old daughter

From Loraine.

P.S. your boys are gorgeous.

PosyPetrovaPauline · 13/05/2010 23:28

look at those two beautiful little boys
As he left downing street i said to DP 'Good old Goron - he could have used those boys to win vote and he didn't. Not once'

Respect!

PosyPetrovaPauline · 13/05/2010 23:28

Goron? Gordon

Jacksgran · 14/05/2010 00:12

I was very sorry to see Gordon Brown resign, and the Labour Party leave government. The media were cruel and biased beyond belief. I despair at how gullible people in our country have become. Why can't they see through the media's prejudices? The media have become the playground bullies. They think they run the country.

Without Gordon Brown's intervention during the financial crisis, this country would have been on its knees. In time that huge achievement will be appreciated.

Perhaps Gordon will stand for election as an MSP (Member of the Scottish Parliament) and become Labour Leader, and win the next election in Scotland, which is only two years away, becoming First Minister of Scotland. Donald Dewar would be proud.

Or maybe he could work towards a more democratic system for Great Britain, in which the media has less power, and substance and policy matter more than slick presentation.

Good luck Sarah and Gordon, and your two lovely boys. You all deserve a great life. Keep tweeting, Sarah. Get Gordon tweeting too!

pims · 14/05/2010 02:05

I was so sad when Gordon Brown resigned, not least because I think in the last days we saw the true measure of the man; who remained dignified and statesmanlike inspite of all the criticism. He is also a wonderful and passionate public speaker, and I found the Citizens UK speech so inspiring and powerful. May you go on to have a good life together with your family - but may you continue to inspire us too!
