WWYD if you were Nick Clegg?

Seeing as Cleggy is likely to be the chap practically deciding the outcome of this, WWYD in his position?

I would probably align with Labour on the condition we had a referendum on election reform and push to dissolve Parliament for a new election as soon as that passed....

think I would do the same. it would be a very painful time for the country but we need long term change and that can be horridly painful short term.

Chil1234 · 07/05/2010 06:59

Don't be under any illusions, Clegg was always going to align with Labour.

FrakkinTheReturningOfficer · 07/05/2010 07:01

Absolutely, purely because he's highly unlikely to align with the Conservatives! The question is what he can get from it...

Yes, I'd do that too. I like how reticent he was to say nothing this early on - very sensible.

The best thing I think I can hope for is a Lib/Lab coalition anyway.

We've all gone blue around us! Close to drowning I think!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/05/2010 07:05

this election could provide the electoral change we need. rubbish this time, but hang in there.

Chil1234 · 07/05/2010 07:06

Ironically, DC might be wise to let the Lib/Lab coalition go forward. They'll screw the country up so badly that when we're all back at the polls 9 - 12 months from now, we'll boot them both out for a good long time!

sparklyrainbow · 07/05/2010 07:12

apparently Clegg is wearing a red tie today...

SeaShellsOnTheSeaShore · 07/05/2010 07:34

Lib lab coalition,on understanding GB goes and then referendum? Not sure, they are no where near as strong as pre election polls suggest so leverage not as strong re getting cabinet members etc.

Not sure!

snowlady · 07/05/2010 07:50

If Nick clegg decides to form a coalition he should go with the party with most mps/votes. Or he could let the tories soldier on on their own and just vote with the tories sometimes.

LadycAshcroft · 07/05/2010 07:51

He will not decide I am afraid.

ATM I would just pray for more seats.

Clegg will push for Gordon to step down - he will be pushing for more than PR.

Yes there will be a lib/lab pact.

Who would replace Brown? Clegg did say that the party with the largest no of seats should be given a chance to form govt, surely if he supports labour he is going back on his word and will prove himself as self-serving as the rest of them despite all his bollox about being the only party for change.....

The Queen does the inviting, but of course on the advice of the Cabinet Secretary and others.

LaurieFecktheToriesCake · 07/05/2010 08:35

Mint you're spot on. But what i think will happen is that Gordon will say to Nick that he will step down in a few months (not now). And Nick will get a cabinet post.

TDiddy · 07/05/2010 08:38

Just wanted to say that it is ironic poetic justice that NC may have the final say after being dealt such a bad hand by the system

MrsLiberalTheWaitress · 07/05/2010 08:41

Thanks, BadKitten

And yes, I totally agree. There will always been an uncomfortable term or two while change happens - transition period.

GrimmaTheNome · 07/05/2010 08:45

I thought Clegg said he wouldn't support Labour if it had less seats and a lower share of the vote. Which seems to me the only honourable position to maintain.

Christ, what a mess - everyone has lost except that nice Green lady.

Yep, but as far as I'm concerned they can do a lib-lab pact till they push through PR and then we will live in actual democracy.

I want PR and I want politics to move away from a 2 party system.
