To vote or not to vote?

Anyone wondering whether to bother? They're all the same / so confusing?

If you've had enough of Labour, remember they got in because we'd had enough of the Torys.

Whatever the result, no one will be happy because we'll all blame the voting system for forcing a result that does not represent public choice.

There is only one party brave enough to allow proportional representation.

If we choose not to vote for lib dem...we accept the unfairness. So we have to put up with what we get without complaint.

If you vote lib dem into power, proportional representation will also get them out in 5 years.

Look how difficult it's going to be to get Labour out?

The media (The Times / Economist ) are big businesses and need Conservatives to get in....so of course they write great articles saying so. I don't believe they will take care of ordinary people.

As for thinking conservative are the only hope for the economy. Vince Cable versus Osborne...please?

The conservatives don't know the meaning of the word 'environment' and any real economic future for this country is in renewables.

If we really aren't sure...why don't we vote the new guys in if only to change this ridiculous way of voting?

My hope is that whoever gets in, we believe it was what the people wanted. I have some doubts about this....!

And if you already know and have voted...the best result for all of us is more people voting...so yippee! Good luck.

You just don't give up do you? I have to admire for your persistence really.

My mum voted Tory for us today as she has our proxies, so thanks for the good luck wishes!

Hi Scaryteacher....stalking?

You know who you're voting and you've voted. So why look at this thread?

Couldn't we just share a virtual bottle of wine? My good luck was sincere and all I hope for is real democracy. If the people want Torys in so be it. But can you then badger them to change to PR? Then I might go back to voting for them won day? And in the persistence stakes...you win.

Cablepower X

PS You're not a politroll are you? (wink)

Not stalking - browsing. Too early in the day for wine.

I like fptp; simple and clean. PR is complex and leads to coalitions of small parties, who when they fall out cease to govern. Belgium being a case in point...yet another general Election here in June, yet the country runs without parliament. There's a thought - no politicians - let the Civil servants run it all.

ABatInBunkFive · 06/05/2010 10:42

'Hi Scaryteacher....stalking?'

paranoid....much?

ajandjjmum · 06/05/2010 10:46

If you don't vote, you've got no right to moan when things are happening as you would choose.

Cablepower · 06/05/2010 10:56

scaryteacher - Germany ? Australia ?

PR leads to significantly higher voting turnout...therefore a fairer say. I don't want to depress myself with the number of people who won't vote today. They are so switched off...because it's a rigged system.

Conflict of interest is good especially in a country made up of such cultural diversity. Any instability needs firm leadership. But I really don't want to only have a choice of two anymore. Levels of poverty have stayed the same in UK through both governments but economists pat themselves on the back about our GDP?

Please read up on Bhutan and The Gross Happiness index ... if only to open up to new ways. I want something different.

Coffee?

ABatInBunkFive - stalking was a joke!

I like batting with Scary...she knows her stuff...even if we are voting for different parties I can still respect her views. We can still have some fun can't we?

'They are so switched off...because it's a rigged system.'

I don't agree, most people i know who don't vote and until this year i include myself, don't vote because they all lie, and are just as bad as each other, nothing to do with the voting system.

ABatInBunkFive · 06/05/2010 11:04

I don't think i said you couldn't. Would a have made it better for you?

Cablepower · 06/05/2010 11:10

ABatInBunkFive - yes...a wink always cheers me up.

What do think of PR?

And the kettle's on. What are you having?

ABatInBunkFive · 06/05/2010 11:15

I'm one of those weirdos who don't do tea or coffee, thanks though.

I haven't given it much thought tbh as i said i've only really taken my head out the sand for the first time this year, but i do think we need a fairer system.

Cablepower · 06/05/2010 13:24

So why don't we vote it in then?

If 43% voted Lib Dem we'd have fair voting system / no hung parliament / Vince Cable as economic guru and ....A BRAVE NEW WORLD!

Scaryteacher...kettle's boiled!

But be quick as I've got to make a birthday cake in one hour.

OP posts:
ABatInBunkFive · 06/05/2010 13:40

Voting lib dem here is a wasted vote, i'd rather put mine to keeping the tories out.

Cablepower · 06/05/2010 13:44

But if 43% voted lib dem (and MN polls show 46%) ... you'd keep the Torys and Labour out and have a fairer system.

We can't expect our politicians to take risks if we won't!

OP posts:
ABatInBunkFive · 06/05/2010 13:51

I doubt 100% of the people here are MNetters. There is no way they are getting in here so there is no way i'm going to use my vote for anything other than keeping the tories out.

It truely would be a wasted vote...wait are you a tory in disguise?
