I don't think you need the actual card, take some ID to the polling station and they should have your name on a list.

truthisinthewine · 06/05/2010 08:59

My polling card says you don't need to take it with you, just makes it easier for them if you do.

Just go down to your local polling station without it, you should be on the list there, maybe just take some ID.

longfingernailspaintedblue · 06/05/2010 08:59

You don't need your polling card. If you don't know where to vote ring the council (or ask your neighbours).

tasmaniandevilchaser · 06/05/2010 09:00

I've never shown a polling card or any ID for that matter, think it will be fine. So technically that person wouldn't be stupid at all. Obviously it's hypothetical though....

GordonGallumbits · 06/05/2010 09:00

there is a system in place for stupid people. if you wear a big sign around your neck and tell evryone you meet how stupid you are they'll let you vote anyway.

They do put an indellible stamp on your forehead though. just s everyone knows.

violetqueen · 06/05/2010 09:01

You don't need a polling card to vote - it's provided to make it easier for the clerks to find you on the list .

BecauseIAgreeWithGordon · 06/05/2010 09:01

Nope. You don't need your card. I was reading mine this morning, to see if I needed to tell DS1 anything (his first vote today!), and it says there that you can turn up without the card.

vesela · 06/05/2010 09:05

You don't need your polling card to vote. You don't even need ID, if you're not in Northern Ireland - you just need to know your name and address.

Re. where your polling station is - you can also check your council website.

think could be worth doing a new thread on this that we can keep bumped to the top.

southeastastra · 06/05/2010 09:06

i know lots round here who haven't had a card this time. seems weird they forgot to deliver them for this election

pagwatch · 06/05/2010 09:28

thank you all so much. If I meet any stupid people today I will make sure to tell them.
And their Dh who has probably been quite obnoxious about stupid people losing their stupid polling cards when we they probably live in a very tight constituency.

I will tell the stupid people to wear their stamped forehead and 'I am an idiot' placard with pride

Pagwatch tell you're hypothetical friend not to feel stupid because my hypothetical friend did something far worse and hypothetically posted the ballot paper in the wrong box Apparently, hypothetically, it is ok and will still be counted. But let that be a hypothetical warning to everyone to take due care

ladylush · 06/05/2010 11:19

your

PuppyMonkey · 06/05/2010 11:24

So what box did your hypothetical friend post the ballot paper in accidentally ladylush? The tombola???

ladylush · 06/05/2010 11:25

Ha ha There were two ballot boxes - hypothetically speaking

pagwatch · 06/05/2010 11:26

my hypothetical friend will be pleased that she is not the only one... Thank you ladylush's friend

ShrinkingViolet · 06/05/2010 11:28

tell your hypothetical friend that lots fo other people post their slips in the wrong box - all that happens is those of us counting the vote tutt at the stupidity of some people and pass the slip to the right pile with a big sigh . (honestly it's OK, it happens a lot, the votes are still counted).

ladylush · 06/05/2010 11:31

I will thank my hypothetical friend for you pagwatch
Shrinkingviolet - I would like to apologise profusely for the stupidity of my hypothetical friend and the extra work she and her ilk cause you. She would apologise herself but she is a bit embarrassed

Merrylegs · 06/05/2010 11:31

Ha. You think that's bad.

My, yeah, 'friend' organised a postal vote because she thought it would be easier as she reckoned she was going to be v busy on May 6th.

Well the silly moo only went and lost said postal vote. She has just found it now so is going to have to take it to the polling station anyway as it has to be in by 10pm. Thereby negating the whole point of a postal vote.

Honestly. I am almost embarrassed to call her a mate.

Only we go back such a long way......

ShrinkingViolet · 06/05/2010 11:31

us counters don't mind extra work as we're on an hourly rate

lol @ merrylegs 'friend'
LG - was it a good friend?
Justabout - my hypothetical friend would NEVER vote BNP or UKIP

pagwatch · 06/05/2010 11:38

My hypothetical friend would never vote BNP/UKIP either.

Our local UKIP candidate is asian.
DS1 asked if he had made a mistake - should he be running for the Petard Party. I thought that was quite funny
