Trying to make up my mind about this whole issue, and also to find out what each of the major 3 parties intend doing about them. It's an issue that must be affecting a large number of people in the country?

Not sure about that muddle

killer I've had too much beer to read that!

Retirement age - it's 60 for me. Soooooooo far away. I'm waiting for my lottery numbers to come up then I can retire at 40.

Retirement is quite close for me...!
I applied for and got a job that was a slight drop in salary in my last couple of years in a Unitary Authority. I had got to the level below Assistant Director and couldn't stand the workload and stress any more. My boss came and told me I should be applying for Assistant Director, but I told him I didn't want the hassle. So I have a huge respect for those I knew who had the stamina and dedication to take on those roles.
So, this pensions thing isn't straightforward is it? Even those who will eventually get large pensions have put in years of dedication at salaries that are lower than they would get outside of local government.
And... it's not even a secure job. We were reorganised at least once every 3 years, put at risk, and had to apply for jobs. Currently in Kent County Council 100's of jobs are being cut, and people will go.
So - these researchers and others who lurk Mumsnet. Now come and tell us, what will your parties do with our pensions?

Dh retires at 53, and has been pensionable from 38. His salary is restricted by 8% pa for his pension.

I think my contributions were about 8%, that sounds right.
