Third Leader's Debate - BBC 29th April

In anticipation of tomorrow's TV debate, MN will be launching a fifth poll of Mumsnetter voting intentions as soon as the debate finishes. Can Cameron regain the ground he's lost? Will Clegg continue to build on his success following the first and second debates? We'll have to wait and see - but in the meantime, we've put together a handy table showing how your voting intentions and attitudes towards the party leaders have changed over the past four polls

Tougholdbird. I used to be called ToughDaddy - near name clash

atlantis · 29/04/2010 22:43

My mother died of cancer because her symptoms were 'old age', when they bothered to find the cancer she died within 3 months, so i'm not impressed.

gaelicsheep · 29/04/2010 22:44

I promise I'll read up on the policies, as if I'd been in that situation I too would care a great deal. But it's all very well targeting a particular headline policy at one particular life-threatening illness. If other life-threatening illnesses are not getting the attention they deserve because they're not as newsworthy and the resources won't stretch far enough, then it becomes a problem. I don't know if that's the case or not, but I suspect that's why the other parties won't make the same commitment.

vesela · 29/04/2010 22:44

someonelikeyou, so why is Clegg X-factor and Cameron isn't? They're all on the same podium, aren't they?

And Cameron's experience of life would be what? PR, where they just talk? Clegg's led international trade negotiations. Of course that's talk, too, but not your PR type.

atlantis · 29/04/2010 22:45

I also like the fact that cameron will give life saving/ life enhancing cancer drugs which labour wont fund.

cinnamontoast · 29/04/2010 22:45

Smeonelikeyou - troll?

Conundrumish · 29/04/2010 22:46

'I get the impression that NC has no idea about economics' - he was comical in the Eddie Mair interview when asked how many noughts in a billion. There was a very long pause.

Thought David Cameron was going to have to put his hand up and ask to go to the loo - he was drinking an awful lot of vodka water

TheHeathenOfSuburbia · 29/04/2010 22:46

atlantis, I don't think you can really blame NC for not knowing how many illegal immigrants have been here ten years or more. Oddly, there is no central database of them...

atlantis · 29/04/2010 22:46

"Clegg's led international trade negotiations."

Cleggs also an actor, and it showed tonight, with that cheesy reply to the teacher.

vesela · 29/04/2010 22:47

When someone mentions the X-factor they usually are trolling... all have a drink for the X-factor.

wubblybubbly · 29/04/2010 22:48

atlantis, I'm sorry to hear about your mother, that's awful

It does still depend on your GP correctly identifying the symptoms and making a referral. I was extremely lucky in the sense that my GP suspected immediately what my problem was, but I suppose some cancers are much easier to spot than others.

My Dad was very similar, by the time his cancer was diagnosed, it was too late. Again, his GP never took his concerns seriously.

Shimmer · 29/04/2010 22:48

Sypmathise Molesworth. Really scared we're going to end up with the Tories Not good.

vesela · 29/04/2010 22:49

pinkpanettone, just getting it right! (the billion).
It was quite a funny interview, that - they were definitely trying to get gaffes out of him!

SanctiMoanyArse · 29/04/2010 22:49

If someonelike you is a troll for a aprty they chose a crap name as it just puts me in mind of crappy BNP posters tbh

And yes TheHeathen exactly.

atlantis · 29/04/2010 22:49

"atlantis, I don't think you can really blame NC for not knowing how many illegal immigrants have been here ten years or more. Oddly, there is no central database of them... "

He actually pretty much agreed those figures on (I think) paxman's interviewed, so he needs to make his mind up if

A) his party is going to have the amnesty (as per his manifesto) but which he denied tonight (claiming it was Boris's idea

B) what the figures are from one show to the next

TheHeathenOfSuburbia · 29/04/2010 22:50

"I also like the fact that cameron will give life saving/ life enhancing cancer drugs which labour wont fund."

There's no way the NHS can fund all available drugs for all those who could benefit from them, they'd go broke in days.
(And I say that as a drug research scientist with a vested interest in the NHS buying as many funky new drugs as possible)

gaelicsheep · 29/04/2010 22:51

Will GPs have to refer everyone to a specialist within 2 weeks, just in case? Even if they're a hypochondriac and it's their 3rd time in a year? I really need to read the policy, I know, although somehow I suspect there won't be much detail to be had.

Dollytwat · 29/04/2010 22:51

anyone watching Question Time?

atlantis · 29/04/2010 22:52

"atlantis, I'm sorry to hear about your mother, that's awful"

Thanks Wubbly, sorry to hear your dad suffered a similar fate, so I do get very annoyed when people talk about cancer under labour as a lot of people do fall through the net.

I actually haven't seen anywhere that cameron is going to cut the two week timescale tbh, if someone would like to point it out to me I would be greatful.

Heathcliffscathy · 29/04/2010 22:52

bangs head repeatedly re people toothick finding it hard to understand the immigration amnesty policy.

please do see my earlier post for an explanation.

[bang bang bang]

TheHeathenOfSuburbia · 29/04/2010 22:52

Atlantis, he said not a blanket amnesty, which was what DC and the Tory press have accused him of proposing, but is in fact BJ suggestion.

atlantis · 29/04/2010 22:53

"but is in fact BJ suggestion. "

Yes, it was Boris's idea, your right, and he got slapped down for it because the people didn't like it and they still don't.

Heathcliffscathy · 29/04/2010 22:54

ARGHHHH.

the libdems are not proposing a blanket ongoing amnesty.

boris johnson proposed this.

[bang bang bang]

gaelicsheep · 29/04/2010 22:55

interesting re 2 week pledge

TheHeathenOfSuburbia · 29/04/2010 22:55

Just telling you what the policy is, since you wrongly accused NC of lying.

Whether you support it or not is obv up to you.
