Politics

Am I the only one who's bored with the political jousting going on among the three main parties?

It feels like we, the Great Electorate, are being treated like a rich, single heiress who's being aggressively wooed by three clowns. The more they try to outdo each other, the more I want to roll my eyes and vow to a life of singledom.

Anyone else feel that way?

Not really. As I see it, there has been too much "two party" 'action' for too long. There are possibly legitimate complaints about lack of attention for some of the smaller parties as they don't get as much time on the media, but Plaid Cymru and SNP are of course of little or no interest to those outside Wales or Scotland respectively.

The Greens, UKIP, and BNP have each had some success, but it would only be with P.R. that the proportions voting for those parties across the UK would be able to make a difference. I suppose they might be willing to co-operate with the Lib Dems (though doubt the LDs would want contact with the BNP or UKIP as those parties have been previously based on single issues and still have major differences that could/would make them incompatible with LD policies {sorry, not so deep into politics to be in touch with all policies of all parties).

If they were all being chummy pals, exchanging bear-hugs and saying how marvellous each other was I would be extremely suspicious because that would mean we had a one-party state.

Politics should involve plenty of passionate debate and rigorous examination of intent because it's literally life-changing. Could do without the stupid smear campaigns but, hey, it's all part of the tapestry. And if you think this lot are going for it you should have seen Barbara Castle at a public meeting!!!

Roll your eyes & go back to your copy of Bridget Jones if you want to but some of us are quite enjoying a bit of honest-to-god sparring!

I think this election is pretty mild compared to some in the past (unfortunately).

Would love to see Gordon get out and be challenged by some ordinary folk rather than the labour lovies he's surrounding himself with (boo- hiss- chicken).

Loved the chicken following Dave around, cracked me up ( yes conservatives do have a sense of humour about their leaders ).

Someone really needs to challenge NC on his policies, drag them out into the light and show the absolute damage they will do to the country (not least his immigration and EU/ Euro policies ).

And I wish NC would stop with the 'love me i'm nick' looking longingly into the camera at every opportunity ( vomits into handbag) because it's getting old now.

I am pretty fed up with seeing the leaders all the time would like to see other members of the parties.

Other members of the parties have been in 3-way debates too, you know, atlantis. Must admit I've only glimpsed them briefly (waiting for the Snooker to come on at 14:30) but they have been doing that...

As for NC's immigration and EU/ Euro policies, I would have to ask what you think they are, because I feel they have been fairly clear (NC was on radio for an hour's phone-in the other morning, and covered the amnesty plan and EU etc).

Chil - ooh, got your patronising pants on today, haven't you?! As you say: "Politics should involve plenty of passionate debate and rigorous examination of intent because it's literally life-changing". Exactly the point that I'm making. What I genuinely want is honest debate, not the flirtatious 'choose me, I'm better then him' crap that I seem to see all the time. 'Sparring', as you put it, is just playing games, and frankly when it comes to running the country I'd rather see a higher level of political engagement.

Agree with Webdude that the other party members have been in debates and I've also missed most of it! Also agree that NC has been clear on policies - certainly far clearly than DC, who is a Professional Waffler.
