My 14 year old's friends have a crush on David C. He was in Gloucester last week and they were all in a dither on FB going 'ooh David Cameron'.

What is wrong with the youth of today. Crushes on politicians fgs. I cannot think of ANYBODY in the 90s when I was a teen who I would fancy. Christ, people used to get all sweaty palmed at Michael Portillo FGS.

SuSylvester · 23/04/2010 16:57

thanks

God he's vile.... where on earth did he find even 30 women to sleep with?

(Oh, hang on, it was 'not more than 30' wasn't it.... I suppose that could mean just 1...or possibly 2??)

DC does it for me I'm afraid - good skin...

SuSylvester · 23/04/2010 16:58

anyone who looked unlike this was ok

cornsilk · 23/04/2010 16:58

He looks like 007 on that last one. Is this a competition to find his hottest pic?

SuSylvester · 23/04/2010 16:58

he is hardly VILE!!!

Good skin - it's girly skin.

I couldn't fancy someone so flushy of cheek and pouty.

Bring back Alastair Campbell, I say.

SuSylvester · 23/04/2010 16:59

no he is offically a Persona Non Grata on here since nappygate

The tory party sex symbol figure of the 90s was Alan Clark. How times change.

badgermonkey · 23/04/2010 17:25

The kids at school LOVE Nick Clegg. They keep asking me who I'm going to vote for and when I say I haven't decided yet, they urge me to vote Lib Dem.

SuSylvester · 23/04/2010 17:26

Has he the Obama effect.
is it cos he just looks normal?

OP posts:
badgermonkey · 23/04/2010 17:29

I think it's because he's not politician-y, and they actually understand what he's saying, instead of feeling bombarded by a load of spin and jargon. Teenagers are brilliant at spotting people being fake!

southeastastra · 23/04/2010 17:30

my ds(16) just came in and was talking up the lib dems. i think it's because they alway seems so ideal

SuSylvester · 23/04/2010 17:31

my god its a yoof thing
i am like the Magenta Devine of mn

My DD (20) loves the LibDems. As do her friends. It's not because Clegg's good-looking, it's because he's normal-looking, unlike the others. It's the normality that's attractive.

And they're just so easily swayed - never mind the events of the last 5 years, base your entire political view on 1.5 hours of Cleggy being charming and the subsequent hype. I've ranted at DD at some considerable length on the subject .

CrowAndAlice · 23/04/2010 17:34

Lenin...

TheJollyPirate · 23/04/2010 17:41

Ooooh very nice LG

NormaSnorks · 23/04/2010 17:57

Welcome to the X-factor generation... most people who are attracted to Clegg probably haven't a clue about LibDem policies.

It's depressing really that this is where we have sunk to today....

ant3nna · 23/04/2010 18:03

My brother (20) told me that lots of people on Facebook are asking the most important question of all;
Clegg, Cameron, Brown: Shag, Marry, Avoid?

He also asked me how the electoral system worked. Youth of today, eh.

ahundredtimes · 23/04/2010 18:05

ds1 and ds2 both liked him from the bit of the debates they saw - which wasn't much.

I asked why, ds2 said 'I can understand what he says'

fair enough I thought

GrendelsMum · 23/04/2010 19:28

Well, I think it is reasonable to vote for someone who you can understand - more of an indictment of the others than a real plus for Clegg, perhaps, though?

BeenBeta · 23/04/2010 19:51

This is perhaps the most frightening thread on politics I have ever read. Serioulsy.

Our country and its future could be determined by a bunch of 18 - 23 year olds who have never voted before on anything more substantial than X factor and they think it is just a game.

An analogy is Paul Potts. Great guy, very likeable, sings Nessun Dorma beautifully but he is not an opera singer. He as not had the training or the experience and nor does he have the power in in his voice. Yet he won X factor.

Nick Clegg is the Paul Potts of politics.

cornsilk · 23/04/2010 19:53

And David Cameron is the Rhydian.
