Do you tell you DH/DP who you vote for?

My DH says its a secret and wont tell me who he is going to vote for, but I think I can guess. If he asked me I would tell him.

I remember my parents being the same when I was younger. I asked them who they would vote for again and my dad told me, but Mum always says its a private thing.

Do you tell your DH or your family or do you keep it a secret?

As I had dh's proxy for years, I knew who he wanted to vote for; and my mum has both our proxies for this year as we are abroad, so we have to tell her.

I do, and he tells me, but I don't think I would mind if he didn't (though I would itch from curiosity as to why he didn't want to).

We make a point of talking about it this year, as we are in a very marginal seat and don't really want to cancel each other's vote out. Mind you I can't see either of us changing our vote if the other decides to vote the other way.

I selected my DH quite carefully with this very issue in mind. I shopped in a deeply, aligned heartland area in order to ensure that the prospective candidates would have complimentary values. I thus need never fear that I will wake up with the wrong colour rosette taped to the bedstead.

And now, because of this forethought sometimes he screams blue bloody murder at the TV/Radio before even I do. So useful.

Yes - why not? It's the subject of many heated debates in the Cat household - keeps the marriage interesting, and clears the air.

Pavlov · 22/04/2010 08:50

why on earth not? in case they disagree? or are embarrassed by your choice? secrets are not good in marriages are they? And really, if you know your OH, likely is you would know who they would be voting for anyway and vice versa. Unless you just grunt at each other.

We discuss politics quite a lot
DH knows how I will be voting

GetOrfMoiLand · 22/04/2010 09:02

I would think this was very weird to be honest.

DP knows my political allegiance - we discuss politics quite a lot. It is unthinkable that we would not know which way the other is voting. Plus I have stuck a great big banner in the garden for my chosen MP so it's no secret.

It has been quite an important discussion this year - we live in a tory/labour marginal, he was going to vote lib dem so a lot of the discussion has been about not 'wasting' his vote and voting tactically.

Why would you want to keep something like this secret?

SpringyThingy · 22/04/2010 09:06

I looked at this thread bc I read it as "Do you tell DH who to vote for"! Which I do. He says he's to busy (lazy) to read up on all the potential candidates so trusts me to do it then votes for whomever I tell him is the best! I try to engage him in debate but it always get round to football somehow sigh . He IS great in the sack though

pagwatch · 22/04/2010 09:11

Dh always knows who I am going to vote for and vice versa because we talk about politics ( along with everything else) all the time.
AS for the first time in my adult life I am currently undecided we are becoming quite dull about it tbh. Endless pulling hair out, angst ridden, oh whats the fucking point - they are all crap , type conversations

lilmissmummy · 22/04/2010 09:19

We tell each other and generally disagree which causes weeks and weeks of arguments discussions on who to vote for and the pros and cons of all the parties. We usually end up voting for different parties!

Keeps life interesting though!

AvadaKedavra · 22/04/2010 09:26

Yes I know how my DH votes and he knows how I vote, we both go for different parties which makes for fun debates chats right now

BeenBeta · 22/04/2010 09:30

Oh yes me and DW discuss politics all the time. TBH I doubt we could have got married unless we had both been solid Tory voters.

DW is from Newcastle, lived on a council estate in a two-up-two down and next door to a miner but she knew how bad Labour really were.
