So there you have it. History in the making; the UK's first live Leaders' election debate. Who do you think did best? Has it confirmed/ clarified your choice or even changed your mind?

Let us know your thoughts in our third election poll and you could win £50 in Boden or Amazon vouchers.

Thanks,
MNHQ

Hi all, so following our latest poll 45% of you would now vote Lib Dems, 16% Conservatives and 23% Labour.

HousewifeOfOrangeCounty · 17/04/2010 18:48

yes, but how many would like Boden vouchers and how many Amazon .

BoggleJunior · 17/04/2010 19:14

Mariepuree - agree! DC complaining there were far too many people in HR and then it turning out they were nearly all trainers was ridiculous. I mean, I am all for bobbies on the beat, but it does stand to reason that some office tasks (like training and recruitment) will still have to happen.

snowlady · 17/04/2010 19:31

What was the mumsnet poll?..no one at mumsnet has asked me how I'll vote. Where do I click to say who I'll vote for?

HerHonesty · 17/04/2010 19:34

also DC's slip about NHS managers. having been asked a question by ... an NHS manager.

AitchTwoZone · 17/04/2010 20:04

can't remember the question exactly, but i think the 'would' and the 'will' is a huge distinction. i would now consider voting lib dem but whether or not i will is another matter.

TheChangeSpiral · 17/04/2010 20:59

BPIX poll in tomorrow?s Mail on Sunday has topline figures of CON 31%(-7), LAB 28%(-3), LDEM 32%(+12) - putting Lib Dems in first place!

TDiddy · 17/04/2010 21:25

I have never voted Lib Dem b ut this is exciting! Would be good to see the duopoly broken. Go on Nick Clegg....Lib Dems go back to your constituencies and prepare to be hung to govern

Sweeedes · 17/04/2010 22:03

I would much prefer a Lib Dem government to another Labour one. I'm not so keen on the mansion tax but as they will be stopping middle class tax credits, that seems fair. I'm all for paying more if it's fair. Labour just pretended to tax the rich and look after the poor.

A friend who works for the FT says Vince Cable is the man business leaders LEAST want as Chancellor of the E. I'll try and find the source of that poll. Channel 4 also did a fact check on whether Vince Cabal deserved his St Vince halo and concluded he did not. I should try and find that too. I think it was Cathy Newman who did that research.

Thanks, Justine!

As well as the BPIX poll, a Sunday People/One Poll one also puts the Lib Dems first, on 33%.

jobie2009 · 17/04/2010 22:22

Too choreographed...noone willing to put neck on line. What was going on with the sound quality? Looked like they were lip synching.

edam · 17/04/2010 22:55

Swedes, great news about the school (I"m still up there on Fridays so hopefully will bump into you).

Why don't business people want Vince? Is it because he's rumbled them, by any chance?

Kafka9 · 17/04/2010 23:00

Justine, can you let us know how many mumsnetters participated in the mumsnet poll?

AitchTwoZone · 17/04/2010 23:08

but it was sooking up to the old running dogs of capitalism that has got us into all this mess, Swedes. you can't possibly say that GB and Blair weren't positively Tory wrt their approach to the business nobs. you really can't have it all ways here.

JustineMumsnet · 17/04/2010 23:14

Poll was of 621.

OP posts:
Sweeedes · 17/04/2010 23:36

Aitch - No they weren't Tory AT ALL. They did the light touch stuff alright. BUT They didn't SAVE UP during the good times to manage the bad times - they were profligate. Don't forget that every £1 the city earned, Labour were getting a sizeable chunk.

And Labour failed to reform anything, they jsut chucked money at things which was easy as there was a lot of it about.

LOL at running dogs of capitalism - it's the only type of capitalism. But you should use fiscal policy to SAVE UP for the bad times.

AitchTwoZone · 17/04/2010 23:40

lol. you wish.

Sweeedes · 17/04/2010 23:44

Aitch - and most people are actually not in a mess. It has so far been much less steep and less painful than the recession in the 90s for example. But it could get a lot worse. Esp if this volcano keeps belching.

It's ridiculous to think a government shouldn't court the private sector - it is what pays for everything.

AitchTwoZone · 17/04/2010 23:48

i meant the global mess, rather than the personal one. although i have plenty of friends who are being made redundant who would argue that point with you.

i've never suggested that politics and business shouldn't have a good relationship, not at all. but i'm hearing a lot of tories dissing GB for being too free and easy with the banks and business etc, as if they'd have done a damn thing different. bloody DC banging on about the top business people at that hustings night, while criticising GB for doing what they told him to do in the past. that was ridiculous.

Sweeedes · 17/04/2010 23:51

Edam - I don't think Clegg wants Vince as Chancellor either from what I've heard.

Did you all know Clegg is a product of £30,000 pa Westminster School? Eton is £345 per annum cheaper.

Sweeedes · 18/04/2010 00:04

Aitch I agree there is a lot of silly point scoring that goes on on all sides. But Labour have had many very good years and it is a little disinegenuous to start ticking off the norty banks now. (and suddenly wanting voting reform, and remembering that they forgot to reform the house of lords....) Tories would have been light touch too but they would still have gold reserves and they would have saved up for the bad times. We would not now be servicing expensive government debt in the same way we are - so there would not be the threat to public sector jobs and our AAA credit rating.

DP lost his job pretty early on in the crisis as he works in fin svces in the city. About 50% of my road lost their jobs.

jackstarbright · 18/04/2010 00:14

Swedes That's interesting (Clegg not wanting Cable). I think Cable's lost the plot lately. The (original £1m) mansion tax was plain daft. There must be loads of £1m houses in his Twickenham constituency. Who's going to vote themselves an extra £10k tax bill? And the £2,500 bankers bonus cap is totally unworkable. But I do like Clegg - elite education and all!!

Sweeedes · 18/04/2010 00:30

Jackstarbright - I understand. It's much easier to forgive a man his elite education if he hasn't got a face like a smacked arse.

jackstarbright · 18/04/2010 00:47

Swede - Actually I like people with an elite education (especially potential leaders of our country). I would like more state educated elite - but that is (as they say) a whole other thread!!
